Here is a video about the court case George had in 1993(?) regarding his Hawaiian property where he wanted to block a footpath people used.

The video has been a real torture to watch also because of the stupid Beatle song titles references. There is a lot of Beatle related stuff on YouTube, not sure if I want to see it all tho. In this case I am not even sure what to say about it.

At that time I viewed it as one of the lesser side from George. I understood his need for some privacy but to deny locals the right to use this path was a bit selfish imo. But it's a thing from the past, and it's something I don't hold against George, certainly not now, it would be pointless to do so.

Oh when you hear the 'neighbors' talk about their arguments I can also imagine that maybe there could have been other ways to solve this.

Mind you, the whole thing from George's side started in 1982 when George completed the construction of his Maui property, which he had every reason to believe would be secluded and private. However, George soon became aware of and objected to neighbors' use of a path near his home. This path was the only way to get to the public beach, yet there was no mention of it in the sale agreement, nor did the title search reveal any path.

Then in 1990 and 1991 neighbors filed complaints.. we could say they took their time.

On July 19, 1993 a trial began involving neighbors' (Steven Philip Gold and Scott Howard Whitney) use of the path.

In Oct 1999 the Hawaii's Supreme Court has ruled against George regarding a dispute over neighbors using a path near George's Maui home to get to the beach. George had to allow access to the beach.

By the way, I didn't even notice any music.

I find it highly doubtful that an often used easement escaped the attention of all parties responsible in the securing, purchasing and development of the property. I am not all that surprised that the legal searches failed to uncover the important rights, it happens from time to time, especially with more remote property, I have been party to such problems.

If I were a public figure I would make sure my voice was heard in court as well. But, when the facts were revealed about the easement and its importance amongst the locals, for the sake of harmony and good will, I would think a better compromise could have been reached.

Yes !!

Well my thoughts are that George is known for having had very serious 'requirements' for security round whereever he lived. It was recently brought forward by Olivia but it was a known issue that after the Beatles years of screaming fans and after John's murder George became very much focussed on his own and his family's security.

He may have seemed overprotective to the world but I doubt he was much different than many other celebrity... but my view is that we all have something exxesive and this was George's thing built up over the years.

He certainly was - impo - not a person to make a fuzz about material things and probably had no problems to invite all those neighbors to his house for BBQ's and things which I had also read about regarding this very same house. We have some stories here at the Palace somewhere from neighbours who were his guest at times at that same house/property.

I know what you mean

There is a 'show' here on TV where things like that - neighbor issues - are taken to a real judge and when you see the silly and amazing and sad issues neighbors often fight about.... amazing...

They could have made a different path :smile1: ... be creative...

From the path, neighbors could actually see into his bedroom. For years a gate George erected prevented people from actually using it... explaining why it took so long for people to complain.

It is not legal to 'own' beach property as I understand, in Maui. So, this was as close as George could get to having a beach where no one would disturb him. For all he gave us, and how he had so little privacy in the world, I think giving him his own spot of beach was not much of him to ask. Just my .02.

I think maybe George should have got his people to be more thorough before he built it, if he knew there was a public right of way there maybe he wouldn't have bought the land....i am split on this one.

hahaha! Just watched the video now... LMAO "the new path George proposed for his neighbors is not viable, as it ends in a 60 meter drop off"..

OMGosh, how I love George! Think he was sending his neighbors a suggestion there?? :teeth1:

Maybe had George proposed another path that would have lead to the beach instead of to the end of the cliff the problem would have been solved.
Just because it's George it doesn't mean I agree with everything he has ever done. But as said it's in the past, for me it's no use discusing things like this now.
