View Full Version : SNL skits

I just saw a Saturday Night Live sketch where some people are sitting at John Lennons memorial and his ghost appears. That made me wonder if any of you could remember other Beatle skits on SNL and other shows. The only other one I can remember is the Chris Farley show when Paul McCartney was on the show and it went something like:
"Ummm Do you remember when everyone thought you were umm dead and all"
"Yes"
"That wasn't true right?"
Or something like that.
------------------
" Are you a mod or a rocker?"
" No I'm a mocker."
" Go to the window... Go to the window."
"Oh won't you please, please help me!"-Fred
"I'm not dead yet."
"What's brown and sounds like a bell?"

During the '70s, SNL offered the Beatles $3000 to reunite on the show as a joke. They even said the Beatles could give Ringo less than his fair share. John and Paul, who was visiting John at the time, at one point were thinking of just showing up during a show, but were too tired to follow through. A shame they didn't, but who knew how things would turn out?

Oh God, I remember seeing that and practically falling over!! I used to watch SNL when it was a new show, mostly while babysitting...It was pretty funny! George appeared as a musical guest back then when Paul Simon was the host, and I think there was a bit on that show where he and Lorne Michaels were having a "discussion" that no, George could NOT have the $3000, because he was only ONE Beatle, and he could NOT have only part of the money either...I don't recall it exactly...if anyone remembers this better than I do, feel free to fill it in...

That one with Chris Farley and Paul McCartney was classic!
Chris: "Re-remember when you said 'the love you take is equal to the love you make'?"
Paul: "Yes, I do remember that."
Chris: "W-well, um...is that true?"
Chris: "Re-remember that that time you got busted for drugs in Japan?"
Paul: "Yeah, but actually, I'm trying to forget about that, Chris."
Chris: "Oh...right, right........stupid, I'm so STUPID!!! God!!"

I've seen clips of the one where Lorne Michaels jokingly offers the Beatles $3000 if they would reunite. And I've seen the Chris Farley one with Paul.
One time I was listening to the December 6, 1980 (Andy Peebles) interiew with John and Yoko. At one part during the interview, John was talking about being a househusband and he told about a skit some people did on SNL about his being a househusband (the people in the skit were cooking and burning their food!) Has anyone ever seen that one? If not, then maybe I'm mistaken, maybe it was another show where they did the "househusband" skit.

The other one good with Paul McCartney was the one when Adam Sandler sang his "I Love You Sweatshirt"-something-kind-of-song, and Paul and Linda joined him in the chours! It was a surprising appearance. Paul also starred as "Jameson", an english butler, on the first sketch of that night. And then Chris hits himself in the head multiple times. That is one of my favorite SNL skits the only I like more is the one where Aerosmith comes on Waynes World and Tom Hanks is playing the roadie and he does this 'Check Check one Check one civilance civilance' thing into the mike, I always found that pretty funny.
Anyways I had heard about that 3000 dollars for the Beatles thing. I thought that was pretty funny. I wish I could see it but they don't play reruns of the 70's and 80's episodes anymore they just play reruns of late 90's episodes.

ImaginePeace78, I saw the SNL episode in which they made fun of John being a 'househusband'. It was right around the release of 'Double Fantasy' but I remember it kind of pissed me off.
One, it was POORLY done. The old National Lampoon song about "Genius is Pain!" was a brilliant satire on John's 1970 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. The SNL bit in 1980 was some poor imitator with bad lines and it stunk.
And Two, it was making light of the fact that he was doing "woman's" work. Even in 1980, don't give me that crap about a woman's place is in the home. I'm a guy. I never bought that. I never will.
P.S. As long as I'm on my soapbox... some of you may know that I am a radio announcer. Do you realize that as recently as 1995, I was told by my bosses that I could NOT play two songs with female lead vocals back to back! I fought THAT RULE for thirteen years!!!! What is the worst that could happen if I played two female vocal records one after another? I was told I would offend the listener. HUH??????!!!
But that is for a different site at another time.
Yeah, I saw the Lennon "House husband" skit. Phooey!

When Lorne Michaels offered up the 3 grand for the Beatles and said that they could pay Ringo less if they wanted to, I nearly fell off the couch laughing (no offense to Ringo).
Has anyone heard the National Lampoon song where they do John singing and primal screaming like Plastic Ono Band? Is that "Genius Is Pain"? I heard it once in the early 70's and not since and it is really funny.

I laughed until I cried in 1993 when Paul McCartney sang along with Adam Sandler's tired song about his red hooded sweat shirt. I mean, Adam Sandler sang a really stupid song that was so stupid it was funny and he actually got TO SING WITH PAUL McCARTNEY!
Yes, I remember watching SNL while babysitting. I remember in 1976 when George and Paul Simon appeared. Even my mother liked that one because she's a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. I loved the 1986 one with Ringo. That was classic.

This isn't a beatle sketch but does anyone remember the sketch where Steve Martin and Bill Murray (I believe) are staring into the camera going "What the hell is that?" "I dunno what is that?" then the call on Dan Akroyd (I think) and they're all talking like hillbillies. I found that skit to be hilarious yet so few people have ever seen it.

Kristi, they have multiple versions of some of the common smilies, so you also have to put a number with them, like "cry1," "cry2," and so on. There's a list of the codes that you can print out; I find it useful. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
Getting back on thread, I think there was another SNL skit that made fun of Ringo. I didn't actually see it, so if someone here did, feel free to add details. The gist of the skit was like this: they auctioned off some Beatle items for high prices, then they brought out Ringo and put HIM up for auction, but no one bid on him! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cry2.gif The auctioneer said, "Come on, this is a real Beatle!" Someone from the audience asked, "Can he talk?" At that point, Ringo did the "Live from New York..." line. Poor Ringo gets no respect; do you think he's related to Rodney Dangerfield?

I think it was on the same Paul episode everyone refers to..close to the start, something else is going on, and the camera passes Lorne Michaels explaining to Paul that he cant have HIS part of the $3000 either. Theres a great SNL book that came out a few years back that details SNLs Beatle obsessions. Like hearing the Fabs had a White party, so SNL has a white party. Hmm, remember when that show was on? Huh, its still on? Who could tell?

I saw a skit that had a VH1 spoof of that movie Two of us or whatever it was called. In the spoof John and Paul run a chicken fast food resturant. Some of the highlights were things like John speaking into a speaker "Number 9 number 9 number 9 number 9...no one? ok number 10 number 10 oh there you are." and John and Paul and one of them I can't remember goes "1, 2, 1, 2,3,4 ...5,6,7 chickens." There were a few more beatle references that I can't remember right now.

Yesterday (7/29/01) VH-1 had a compliation of SNL's best musical guest moments. I love the 1993 mock interview Chris Farley conducts with Paul. I also liked that stupid song Adam Sandler did about his red hooded sweatshirt and got Paul McCartney to join in on the silly chorus.
Paul was truly a wonderful guest on that show.

Wasn't there a skit once about The Beatles receiving advice from Elvis, something about being a group instead of being solo. I think Matthew Broderick played one of The Beatles
And remember when Eddie Murphy played a character who claimed to be a Beatle before they reached 'the toppermost'. He plays a recording of a Beatles song, "She Loves You" mybe (I don't remember which one), and after The Beatles sing 'yeah, yeah, yeah', you hear Eddie sing, in a tough voice, another 'yeah'
I love the Chris Farley / Paul interview. Paul was never cooler. I cry everytime I see it, from laughing too much (and maybe a little from sadness at Farley's passing)
