I like the acoustic I'm learning on, even though its REALLY standard lol.
I drool over the Epiphone Casino though....and I saw some cheap ones on Ebay...maybe when I get good enough lol! But my friend said its a very heavy guitar. Then again shes much tinier than I am...but I'm not really very strong...
Rickenbakers are another type I drool over, but nowhere near my price range lol!

Loony Leo....
Your friend must be a twig, because the Epiphone Casino is a very light-weight hollow-body guitar! It's the lightest guitar I've ever picked-up (I own one). You want a heavy guitar, pick up a Gibson Les Paul. I owned one a long time ago, and it was one heavy mother.
You can get a Casino on eBay for a decent price. It all depends on how much you can afford to spend. They, too, are one of my favorite guitars.
The Gibson SG holds a special place in my musical heart. It looks cool, sounds awesome, and has the fastest neck I've ever played.

If you want a good quality guitar at an affordable price check out Alvarez for accoustic or accoustic/elec.

I LOVE the Epiphone Casino, especially the sunburst colour! I would love to get my hands on one but they're just to damned expensive.

Here's my baby - the Epiphone Elitist (eh-ehm!) Casino...
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-1/1241203/Casino.jpg
It is one of the most beautiful guitars ever produced. I got rid of the "Elitist" trussrod cover and replaced it with the standard "€" logo in order to "Beatle-ify" it.
Although this is an expensive model, the Chinese-made (used to be Korean-made) model is relatively affordable.
So, get on it Harb!

I agree with Hof...our guitarist plays one and she's not at all a large woman. I would think unless you are teeny tiny, it shouldn't be too heavy for you.

This is the guitar I currently have, an Aria TA50 Leftie which, as I found out later, is an exact copy of the Gibson ES-335 that George played in 1965 I believe. Beautiful guitar.

Harb, I can see the resemblance. I am not 100% sure about the inlays though. How does she handle and sound?
I didn't think George played the Gibson. Are you possibly thinking about the Country Gentleman? Or, am I mistaken?
Edit: Or the '65 Nashville?

No, kmac... Harb is right - ALMOST. George used a Gibson ES-345 in the latter part of 1965. There are photos of him playing it in Sheffield during their last U.K. tour in 1965. He's also seen using it on the "Day Tripper" promo video.
Here's a pic of a "re-issue" 345 available these days:

No problem. Always eager for a Beatles guitar discussion!
Anyone with even a slight interest in what guitars, etc. The Beatles played throughout their career as a band MUST own "Beatles Gear" by Andy Babiuk. It's a Beatles guitar freak's (which I am) Bible!
:wave1:
Here's a pic from the "Day Tripper" promo video (a French EP sleeve which I actually once owned) showing george with his 345:

D'oh! Yes, it was the 345! *slaps forehead*
She plays with a nice, soft, bluesy sound on her own.

Nice pic, and yes, right before my eyes all this time, the Day Tripper Promo clearly shows the Gibson. I am straying a little off the topic, Hof, does your book indicate when George last used the ES-345?

http://www.thecanteen.com/fabguitars.html is the best site in regards to the Beatles and what guitars they used during their time as a group. Regarding the Gibson it says...
"1965:Gibson ES-345-TD (tobacco sunburst, stop tailpiece; vintage '63-'65). It's been reported that one of the Moody Blues loaned this guitar to Harrison after his Country Gent was smashed on a roadway on 2 December '65, but photos from the "Daytripper" and "We Can Work It Out" video session of 23 November show Harrison playing this guitar, so another myth bites the dust. Other photos show him using it on the December British tour, but after that -- nothing. It doesn't show up in current photos of his collection, so it may just be one of those guitars that passed through his hands. I wish I had more to report, but that's show biz." - http://www.thecanteen.com/harrison8.html

Harb appears to have answered your question. But, for what it's worth... George apparently used the ES-345 during the latter part of 1965. I have only seen pics of him using it live and for the afore-mentioned promo clips. There's no real record that I know of of it being used in the studio....
And then the 345 dropped off the face of the earth. I believe this is due to the fact that, by that time, both George and John purchased Epi Casinos and the rest is Beatle guitar history. The Epi's took over!

That IS a great site! I love that pic of all four of them during the "Paperback Writer" sessions! I love it because it shows them all playing instruments that they have not really been associated with all that much...
Paul, the bass player, playing his Epi Casino... George, the guitarist, playing a strange Burns Nu-Sonic bass.... and John playing - for like the first and only time - his Gretsch Nashville.
kmac, you should buy the book "Beatles Gear". If you enjoy that site Harb posted, you'll have a siezure looking through that book! :bigeyes3:

I really love the site, thanks for the link.
The only instrument I could not identify is that black Stratocaster with the matching headstock. It is not even mentioned in "Beatles Gear". Is that a backup guitar?
