Since the book is coming out i decided to start a thread about the videos. I haven't seen the 8 tape one, and was wondering if it was worth buying. (I know that's a stupid wquestion, because anything is worth buying if it's Beatle-related.) I'm looking for the 8 tape one for a good price, because it's very high priced. I might rent them from my local video store and do the illegal thing and copy them http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif until I can afford them lol.

Just buy them. . . .it's imperative.
I got mine a couple of months back, which means roughly two, they're amazing. They're definitely worth every penny. Each video is brilliant, very well made, and put together.
At first, I thought I'd miss grandmother, but now I think it was definitely worth selling her for the money - the vids are wonderful.

Cut me some slack, it was for the anthology vids!

About the ANTHOLOGY...http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
They are great, so far. I have seen 1, 2, and 6. I want to see and buy them all, but nowhere around me sells them and I don't know a website that I can buy them on. I don't really have a need for the CDs, though. The reason that those songs weren't released is that they weren't good enough!

Are you on hard drugs?
The anthology songs are all good enough, most of them were released on albums, EP's, or singles. The one's that weren't, provide you with something other than what you'd usually get - outtakes, or pre-moptop songs, interviews, etc.
As for the anthology videos, web-sites that sell them are: www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com) www.cdnow.com (http://www.cdnow.com) http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/ www.videouniverse.com (http://www.videouniverse.com) www.vidnet.com (http://www.vidnet.com)

The first cd has a lot of early songs that they were playing in their act before they became famous recording artists. The others with out-takes and early versions are great listening. They give you alternate and early versions and you get to hear how the Beatles wrote and progressed with the songs. Some are real stripped down versions ( he said stripped). Some are demos. On the 2nd cd, you hear a glass break and John says, " Paul broke a glass, Paul broke a glass he did." worth the price of admission. You hear Long And Winding Road as Paul recorded it without the sappy strings. Don't pass up the chance on these gems. They're historical, and hysterical. You hear Paul laugh in some of the versions. Very cool.

Penny, any true Beatles fan has to have the CDs and video set. Another site to check is http://www.beatlefest.com .

I have the first Anthology CD set, but decided not to bother with the others. They are interesting to listen to, but not the sort of thing I'd just sit around and play, like their real albums.

Penny, you've got to get the other two CDs. Some great music is on them. You'd be cheating yourself out of it, if you don't. I have always been partial to their later works, but I got all three CDs. The first one is great, but the other two are just as great, if not better.

They sure are expensive. That would set me back about $70, which is a lot for me and would require several babysitting jobs.

I was really suprised to read most of these posts!
I know that personally when each of the anthology CDs came out I was practically camping outside the music store to get my hands on them! I think that they are so good and my CD collection certainly wouldn't be the same without them. I'm shocked that some of you don't think that they're that good or have the full set. I love hearing what the songs once sounded like - it's interesting to see how they developed and the fun that they had recording them
And as for the videos...when they were released over here they were really limited so I had to buy the set the day they came out in case I lost my chance for all of time and let me tell you they have provided me with hours of entertainment since I got them - I never get sick of watching them and I've had them for a very long time now.
Both the CDs and videos (and now of course the book) are so excellent that it should almost be compulsory for Beatles fans to own them or - at the very least - watch and listen to them.

In $ it looks like a bargain. I would have to calculate in Dutch Guilders which make it extremely expensive (2.65 rate)

If you live in America, DON'T buy the Anthology videos from England.
Thank you.

I know why not to buy stuff from England if you're American, lol, the tapes are different. I was tempted to buy the Friends seasons on DVD or VHS, but they won't work here http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif ::sigh::

You US people have been getting different versions since about 1962.
What's wrong and/or different this time? May be interesting to know cause then I may want to have a US version too.

Yeah and sometimes in getting different versions of things we get ripped off. I have two versions of an album one US one Australian and the Australian one has two extra tracks.

I believe they're talking about the difference in how a video plays in the US compared to the UK. In the US, we have VHS tapes. I'm not sure what format the tapes are in over there.

The difference is mostly in the speed the tape was made to play back at, combined with the speed the different VCR's were manufactured to play tapes at.
