I'm not sure if this is coming out in America or if it has already but a new beatles series is starting on Monday night all about them and the sixties!!

It's on UKTV history and comes on at 5:00 and 9:00pm!

it's title is The 60's: the beatles decade
and the info is
New series exploring the devepment of the beatles, looking at their american influences as well as cultural shifts in the uk!

sounds intresting to me! :teeth1:

Hm. They usually don't run UK TV shows in the US, unfortunately, unless they prove to be such a big draw that they see big money in it.

I hope they give Brian all the credit that's rightfully his for a change.
Probably won't, though.

Maybe VH1 or some such will decide to air it someday, if it's not too expensive.

Nah. We don't get UKTV on this side of the pond. We have satellite hook-up and are lucky to have BBC-America. That's about it from the UK. It does sound pretty interesting, tho.

good old bbc! Always has something intresting on! and skyone which I think has mainly american shows!
E4 is another gooden!

But I don't think we get stuff like abc over here! not sure really!

I looked through the tv guide thing and theres 5 programmes of it I think!
What it does is show the beatles through the years and the other important events happening at the same time!
such as the first show, shows the beatles in Hamburg whist the cuban missile crisis is happenning and it goes up through their career! looks good! :teeth1:
shame you americans will miss it! :tongue1:

I might be in Spain the whole week but I will no doubt record it! :teeth1:

Yeah, we get it here. But nobody watches it! :tongue1: :laugh2:

My idea for a Beatles series would be a drama set in Liverpool
in the '50's when they were kids. The plots would be seen
from the point of view of George, who had the "undramatic"
childhood. He could be a character like Kevin from "The Wonder
Years" or Buddy from "Family," a thoughtful kid with a unique
perspective. Lots of possiblities for plotlines, each featuring a
particular Beatle or a family member. Better to be shown as a
cable series or a PBS series as it won't make it on network.

If any of you literary/media types decide to develop this, I want money. :laugh5:

The WB/UPN should NOT get their hands on it. Otherwise they'll turn it into some angsty Dawson's Creek type of show.

It's bad enough they ruined Superman... :cry3:

All the time GG! I never come off it, it's my favorite! :tongue1:

Did you watch the series Lucy and Sandy?

I recorded it and have watched the first episode!

It's not like a acting thing, it just has a mans voice talking about the early 60's (in the first episode) and showing the odd beatles influence and what they were doing around the time of the major events happenening! Still quite intresting and I will watch the rest of the episodes soon!

You don't know what I'd do for some good television around here.
I never actually watch TV.
I've got everything I need on DVD,
but it gets terribly redundant.
You can only watch Family Guy and Friends so many times!

Its was good it was more of a social history programme really about the 60's rather than the Beatles.

Lucy
Jul 23, 2006, 04:00 PM
I watched some of it (maybe 3 episodes?) and yeah would agree it was more of a social history thing than a beatles thing. I found it to be rather dated and didn't enjoy it all that much but better than a lot of the stuff on offer!

Well, I guess I can take a pass then when it finally airs over here on BBC America in about a decade. Maybe I'll take that time to watch some more of my Anthology videos.

I'd be interested in seeing it, if only to see another example of the different viewpoint ~ of how the English experienced the 60's (http://p104.ezboard.com/ffifthbeatlemoviefrm2.showMessage?topicID=17.topic ), in contrast to how I lived through it.

And :rolling1: I know I tend to sound like a broken record, but whenever something is out, I always want to know:

Was there anything of Brian Epstein in it?

If anyone would be so kind. Cheers!

haha great pic there!! :laugh5:
I havn't seen it all yet but there wasn't much I don't think about Brian in the first episode but that was the really early years!
Maybe Lucy or someone could give you a better answer?

Lucy
Jul 25, 2006, 02:26 PM
Yeah there was a bit about Brian in one I saw....all about when he first saw them in the cavern and then how he did deals regarding their first visit to the States. Not too much or anything special though - nothing you won't have heard before. I only saw a couple of them remember so the chances are that there was more detail on him on the one that would have dealt with his death.

Thanks to both of you! Hopefully someday we "statesiders" will be graced with a glimpse. :cool1:

And, because American television feels obliged to always change things, hopefully it won't be as messed-up as the 1999 Arena special "The Brian Epstein Story" was when A&E Biography butchered it up.

Actually, except Debbie Geller's contributions to the show, the original UK special was done in a pathetic manner... and then A&E's cuts (and subsequent lying in their promos for it (http://community.livejournal.com/eppylog/)) made it into a total trainwreck. :angry1:

(I hope our new movie will be soooo much better!)
