just an FYI...

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is to get its first daily flights to New York from next year with the launch of a new service by Flyglobespan.

The airline has said it will begin operating to Newark Airport from May 25, 2007 with one-way tickets starting at £149, inclusive of fees and charges.

The Merseyside Partnership business group has supported the flights, but it is also hoped the strong cultural connections Liverpool and New York enjoys will boost local tourism and the economy.

Tom Dalrymple, Flyglobespan chairman, said: “I am delighted we can launch this service from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and give the local population the chance to visit one of the world’s most exciting cities at such fantastic prices.

“We also expect it will be well received by the business community on both sides of the Atlantic – as our prices in this sector compare very favourably with others.”

Almost five years to the day since the airport was renamed after John Lennon, Yoko Ono said her husband would have been thrilled with the news.

"How fitting that there will soon be flights from John Lennon Airport to New York. As you all know, John had a tremendous fondness for both of these cities,” she said.

"He would have been delighted that now there will be a direct flight between these two historic cities - across the Universe, so to speak. It's a great day for both Liverpudlians and New Yorkers."

This is the airline’s fourth long-haul destination and joins its existing Glasgow to Orlando service, as well as its Manchester to Cape Town and Toronto routes set to start in November, extending Flyglobespan’s network beyond Europe.

Awesome! Now they just need to add a Detroit to Liverpool flight, and I'll be happy! :)
