Rock n roll is a great album...Lennon does the best covers... they're very imaginative and fresh interpretations, not just note for note copies, my fav has to be You Cant Catch Me... (its very "Come Togetherish")

"Rock n Roll" is good. He really made "Stand By Me" his own, for a long time I thought it was a John song!
"POB" and "Imagine" is a good way, if not the best way to start out your John Lennon collection. I would however first get hold of all the albums with John's original material, "Walls and Bridges" is another favourite of mine, before getting "Rock n Roll".

He didn't have that many.
If those two are the only albums you have there is the following left.
Sometime in New York City (you can buy that one last, after a few years or so)
Mind Games
Walls and Bridges
Rock N Roll
Double Fantasy
Milk and Honey

I used to have a compilation of songs by John Lennon called the Lennon Legend.
Thanks Legs for the list of CD's you give me to try.

Come now, Legs, Sometime in New York City isn't THAT bad! :wink1: I rather like We're All Water, New York City, Sisters O Sisters and Born in a Prison. Actually, it looks like I prefer Yoko's songs to John's, but the album's better than its reputation, in my opinion.

I like a lot of songs on it also, it's not a really bad album I agree. However I still wouldn't advise to a new fan to pick that one up first.

Probably good advice- I wouldn't want to turn a new fan off of John by guiding them to a thirty-odd year old political album.

I agree, but like Legs has said, every Lennon album is a must have masterpiece, inlcuding his songs on STINYC :wave1:

I like Sometime in NYC a lot. I haven't heard it in ages, because I used to have it on vinyl, and I got rid of all my vinyl albums years ago when my turntable died, and things were changing around to CD's. But I remember liking Woman Is the Nigger of the World, Sisters O Sisters, Attica State, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Luck of the Irish. I forgot how the other songs go now, but one of these days when I have extra money I'll replace it on CD (or put it on my wish list as a gift!)
