Abbey Road photographer passes away in Scotland
by David Haber, WGO Managing Editor
According to May Pang, Beatles' long time friend and photographer, Iain Macmillan, has passed away after battling cancer. He died Sunday morning in Scotland.
Iain Macmillan created the photograph for the Beatles Abbey Road album, possibly the most famous and most often copied rock album cover ever.
Iain later worked with John and Yoko and took the "merging heads" photos on the label for "Happy Christmas, War is Over". He also revisited Abbey Road with Paul McCartney to create the cover for his "Paul is Live" album.
MacMillan's representative Raj Prem said, "Iain was too gentle for the industry in which he worked and eventually he preferred to teach photography instead. He was a much better photographer than many of his contemporaries but he never said a bad word about them and was always modest."
May says she just spoke with him for the last time about a week ago. She expresses her sadness over his passing and hopes that everyone will pause
for a moment and think of him.
