I just read that some copies of the Beatles Vol 2 contain errors in stereo to mono mixdown. Most of the mistakes are subtle. Some songs have false guitar intros. The most glaring false guitar intro mistake is on 'I'm Looking Thru You'. They said if you get a 'bad' copy, they will take it back and give you a 'good' copy.

Hmmm...on the American vinyl album of Rubber Soul, there has ALWAYS been a "false guitar intro" on "I'm Looking Through You." It's different from the British release, always has been. In fact, if they changed it to the one without the false start for the Capitol Album set, that's actually a mistake in that it's not the same as the US album....

Where did this info come from, Joe? I'm curious as to who is reporting it.

All seems a little vague to me also. The mistake you mention isn't a mistake. the
false guitar intro's have always been on the song, at least on the U.S. release, which we are dealing with here.

Ah hah! I just had lunch with a friend who is an editor at Beatlefan Magazine, and he explained this to me....

Apparently, the false start on the US version of Rubber Soul is only on the stereo version, not the mono one, and the new disc used the wrong master and has the false start on the mono version too, which is wrong. Also, apparently, there was a similar error with the wrong master used for the mono version of Beatles VI.

I guess that clarifies things -- I never knew that the false start for I'm Looking Through You was only on the stereo album! (Though my vinyl copy is stereo -- I don't think I've ever heard/seen a monophonic one!)

I doubt they'll be worth much considering that probably all the copies sold the first few weeks will contain the error.

I agree with the double R. Its probably a little early to go around saying that the error copies are "already worth big $$" If they do become worth anything it'll probably be in the first few weeks when noone knows which copies there getting, then it'll die down. Since most people want these sets for as accurate a recreation of the original U.S albums as possible, most will probably try to get the fixed copies.
Now, if only they'd put back those cigarrettes...

I'll be waiting outside Best Buy as the doors open at 10:00 AM. I want a copy with the "mono errors"...

I'll get the corrected version later on.

Yes, though you might find copies that aren't defected. Capitol is supposed to announce what to do if you do buy a defected set. Its been speculated that you might have to send in the 2 cds and get new copies or you might even be able to keep the cds and just send in proof of purchase. An official announcement will probably be made this week.
