Just in case any of you Chicago-area people are looking for something to do on Friday, December 9th, there is going to be a tribute concert to John at the Old Town School of Folk Music that night. Tickets are $10-12 and more information is available here:

http://www.oldtownschool.org/concerts/event.lasso?id=P3661

The performers are mostly going to be staff and students of the OTS (including yours truly) and it should be a lot of fun. I'm not sure yet what the group I'm playing with is going to perform, but I'll update you when time gets closer. I wanted to post this info early though since the last time I invited people to a show at the OTS, it sold out ahead of time and some people who were planning to go couldn't get in!

If any of you are interested, let me know and maybe we can arrange to meet up before or after the show for a bite to eat or a drink or something.

Hey, I'm going to be playing with a group of people who are doing "early years" songs (up to, but not including Rubber Soul). What songs with primarily John vocals from that time period would you most want to hear at such a concert? Any that you really WOULDN'T want to hear? I'm really lobbying against "Twist and Shout", but I know I'm going to get shot down....

Sounds like fun! "Rock & Roll Music" would be a good one for that show. I think faster numbers than slower ones would be best. Another personal "love to hear live" fave would be "Tell me Why", which might be more of a John/Paul number, but I've always it more John.

Oh, it seems pretty cool! I've mentioned it to my dad, and he says he'd be delighted to go with me. All of us Chicago-area people should all meet up!

Argh. Double post!

But, I'm pleased to inform that I and my dad will be attending. He surprised me with the tickets the other day. My dad was talking to the person who sold him the tickets, and they said that the show was really good, so I'm excited. I'm really hoping that play some of my favorites.

I'm sorry I didn't see this before! It's tonight and I'm neeeerrrrvous! Come up and say hi if you see me, I'm the bass player for the first group after intermission (playing "Please Please Me" and "This Boy") - I'll be wearing a denim skirt, a black turtleneck and a black hat! :smile1:

AHHHHHHH RELLLLLLLLLL! I SAW YOUUUUUU!! My dad and I were sitting in the upper deck on the right side. I was wearing a bright green shirt with a peace sign on it -people actually stopped and told me how much I stood out, so maybe you saw me! :wave1:

Ah, poop, I wish I would have seen you, but my friends were in the lower level and I was blabbing with them and didn't pay much attention to the upper deck! My friends said it was a little slow paced in the first part (when I was back stage dying of nerves) but pretty good. I think we did ok...I didn't mess up once, so I was happy about that! It went a lot later than I thought it was going to...and that guy doing "Working Class Hero" near the end...snooooooooore...I didn't think he was too great. But now that you know what I look like, come say hi if you see me at any other Chicago Beatle events! :smile1:

Well Rell, I thought your bit was great. My dad loved singing along to "This Boy". Oh, but tell me about that guy! I ALMOST FELL ASLEEP! Not to mention he jumbled all the words together. I think he forgot a verse, now that I think about it. Some of my favorites were 'Lucy', the guy who sang "Love" and "Strawberry Feilds", and the duo that sang "Julia". But, I have to say - all the preformances I saw were very good and I enjoyed them. 'Cept that one guy. :afraid2: I loved the fact how they didnt play "Imagine" as the finale. I mean, it's a great song - just that everyone plays it. "Instant Karma!" is my Dad's favorite Lennon song, so he was pleased. I'm surprised they didnt play "Give Peace A Chance", though. Unless we missed it ( we arrived late because of 3-hour Chicago traffic.).

But yes, I will definatly say hello if I see you around town!

P.S. OH MY GOD! DID YOU SEE JOHN'S GUITAR?!

Ummm..(checks set list), nope, they didn't play it. That is kind of odd. I'm glad though because (looks around to see if anybody has a big stick) it's not one of my favorites. And yeah, I thought "Instant Karma" was a MUCH better closer than the ubiquitous "Imagine".

You're not the only one on the traffic. My friend was coming from Downers Grove and it took her over 2 hours, every expressway and every major street was just a parking lot. Uggggh, I felt terrible for her. I only live about a 10 minute drive from there and I didn't feel like digging my car out, so I took the bus there and a cab home.

And yes, I did indeed see John's guitar! Very cool!! I don't even know how to play guitar, but can I have it? :wink1:

Oh good, at least I didnt miss it. And wow, you're one of the first people I know of that doesn't really like 'Give Peace A Chance' ! Congrats! ( I like the song a lot because of it's message and easy chorus, but it's not that completely great compared to others he's written.)

Worse, my dad gets extremely touchy in traffic, so I had to sit in the car next to him the entire him while swore his face off at the SUV in front of us. He was going to chuck something at the guy's window, but I convinced him that it would be a bad idea because we'd never get to the concert!

I was speachless when I saw it. I mean, John's guitar was 4 inches from me! I was very tempted to reach out and touch it. :laugh5:
