Ok, so we should see how many songs we can name that either mention The Beatles, or just have Beatles references. And maybe try not to name six gazillion at a time so that other people can name some, too. :) Sorry if this has been done before.

The first one that comes to mind for me is We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel: "Lawrence of Arabia, BRITISH BEATLEMANIA, Ole Miss..."

The song "Paul McCartney" by SR71 it has very little to do with Paul McCartney besides a mention of something like 'things would be different if Paul were still alive' I bought the cd cause I liked 'Right Now'and I've only listened to the paul song a few times I don't particularly like it.

'Titles' by a band called Barclay James Harvest.

A song of which the music has some ingredients of Beatles tunes, starting with Long and Winding Road, and the lyrics were mainly titles of Beatles songs.

Isn't there a Shania Twain song that says something about The Beatles still being together if the world was perfect??

No. Nobody has. (I just checked). Plus, anybody know about the lyrics of that one?

Jan 28, 2001, 04:16 PM
Here's a snippet of the lyrics with the John/Paul/George reference in the middle:

I said you got my number
He said yeah I got it when you walked in the door
Don't call us, we'll call you
Don't call us, we'll call you.

I got your name from a friend of a friend
who said he used to work with you
Remember the all night creature from stereo ninety two
Yeah I said could you relate to our quarter track tape
You know the band performs in the nude
He said uh huh don't call us child we'll call you.

Listen kid you paid for the call
You ain't bad but we've heard it all before
Yeah it sounds like John, Paul and George

Anyway we cut a hit and we toured a bit
with a song he said he couldn't use.
And now he calls and begs and crawls
It's telephone deja vu
We got percentage points and lousy joints
and all the glitter we can use
Mama so uh huh don't call us, now we'll call you.

Thanks, Nowhere Man, but what I REALLY meant was if somebody knew the lyrics to Pink Floyd's song "Not Now John" which is, I think, dedicated to John Lennon, as it is Queen's "Life Is Real" (included in their "Hot Space" album) and U2's "God Part II" (issued in their "Rattle & Hum" album).

I only know about the latter. It's called "God Part II" because all of its lines start with the classical statement "I don't believe in...". Plus, the booklet says clearly "dedicated to John Lennon".

If anybody has information about the lyrics of the tribute songs to John by Pink Floyd or Queen, please let us know.

Sorry, darkhorse, I haven't a clue.

And since all the musical references I can pull to the top of my head have already been mentioned, may I digress just a bit? How about the written word with Beatle references? Stephen King has simply got to be a Beatles' fan - quite a few of his books feature characters singing snatches of a Beatle tune, or sporting Beatle posters on their walls...
