Today's song of the day is:

After two Paul songs here's a Lennon song, one of his best. My personal favourite on the Sgt. Pepper's album, and i think one of the signature songs of the Beatles catalog. I love the orchestra build-ups and Paul's intriguing middle section.

and the lyrics....

I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book.
I’d love to turn you on

Woke up, got out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream

I heard the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Not they know how many holes it takes
To fill the Albert Hall.
I’d love to turn you on.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make

You know it's gonna be...alright

Another good one, BM!!! Back in high school, my friends and I used to play this song on our acoustic guitars, while cutting class!!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I'm sure a lot of other groups of the 60's listened to this, scatched their heads, and mumbled, "What do we do now?" IMHO, this was The Beatles at their most innovative!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

"A Day In The Life" was the crowning achievement to the Sgt. Pepper album. Until this album was released, music was just something to enjoy and dance to. The Beatles pushed the envelope and got people to actually "listen" to the songs. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Just a thing...

I LOVE A DAY IN THE LIFE!!!

As I always say when people ask me why this is my favourite Beatles song, it contains John's psychedelia, images taken from a newspaper and 'painted' in an impressionistic way on the song, and it has in itself one of Paul's side, which is attention to common and real life (I'm thinking of songs like Eleanor Rigby and also Another day...)

Thank you for posting BM!!

I agree with Amalthea and furthermore it is one of the last songs that Paul and John wrote together

I couldn't have said it better
myself-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I also remember the actual way
that this LP felt while simply holding it
with bear hands--(so to speak).. Albums like
Pepper, Mystery Tour & some from other groups
like King Crimson's "In the Court",etc. or Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and "Are
You Experienced" from Jimi Hendrix all had
"gem-like" impressions on me in that way.
I mean, simply holding those albums especially having bought them brand new at the time, even "felt" special. Anyone feel
similar?.. --JC
