Good call, BM!! What better way to start off this new topic than with "Hey Jude"? As a matter of fact, "Hey Jude" was the first 45 RPM record I ever owned. I still remember playing that endlessly on my little record player! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Very moving song. Probably the best of the Paul lyrics ever. Never he sounds so sincere ("Maybe I'm Amazed" comes to mind now). Of course, as taken directly, this song talks mainly about comforting Julian and the separation of his parents. John took it as directed to him. I take it in a very personal way too... Paul seems to be conforting the average listener with the lyrics of the song, making them feel better. Hence,

Hey Jude don’t make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Try to make every bad moment of your life worth living anyway. There's always way to take good stuff out of the bad ones... just try.

Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
Maybe not with your brain and your knowledge... the control of those kind of things lives in the hearts and souls of people.

Hey Jude don’t be afraid,
You were made to go out and get her,
That's why we are in the world for... We love and lose, but that's our why we came here for.

The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.
When we assume that, we'll begin to have a better life.

And anytime you feel the pain,
Hey Jude refrain,
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
But anyways, nothing is really that serious. Living your life, and taking it with all of its sufferings and problems, doesn't mean that you have to take care of everyone's problems too. Just take care of what's really important, and don't give importance to small things that don't have it.

For well you know that it’s a fool,
Who plays it cool,
By making his world a little colder.Putting passion in everything you do is also important in order to have a good life. "Playing it cool" means that you don't put all of your senses in what you're doing, and don't enjoy every single minute in life. Maybe you're not thankful enough about what you have, with all of the problems in between. Can't we enjoy what we have once in awhile?

Hey Jude don’t let me down,
You have found her now go and get her,
The message is repeated again. Find the light in your life, and let it shine. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin,
You’re waiting for someone to perform with.
And don’t you know that it’s just you
Hey Jude, you’ll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder."On your shoulder"... it's up to you. It's up to us. No one but ourselves can improve our lives by living them with a thankful spirit.

Hey Jude, don’t make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then you’ll begin to make it better.Such a great song deserved such a great ending. The whole orchestra performing the most legendary ending to a song ever. One more comment: maybe Paul was right about this one, and George's guitar "replying" to every single verse didn't go quite well with the song, who knows.

I heard that was just a "joke" line John added only to be used by Paul in the song.

Hi everyone I'm going to feature a new Beatles song daily unless I absolutely cannot get on a PC. This will be a post to discuss the song, etc.
---------------------------------------------
Today's (11/16/01) song is:

HEY JUDEhttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/clap2.gifhttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/clap2.gif

In my opinion the best Beatles "anthem", with a well crafted melody and some excellent singing by Paul. Here are some links to various HEY JUDE pages:

The Lyrics (I know everyone knows these, but just in case)

Hey Jude don’t make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

Hey Jude don’t be afraid,
You were made to go out and get her,
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.

And anytime you feel the pain,
Hey Jude refrain,
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it’s a fool,
Who plays it cool,
By making his world a little colder.

Hey Jude don’t let me down,
You have found her now go and get her,
Remember (Hey Jude) to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin,
You’re waiting for someone to perform with.
And don’t you know that it’s just you
Hey Jude, you’ll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.

Hey Jude, don’t make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then you’ll begin to make it better.

Da Da Da DADADADA Dadadada Hey Jude (rept)

That line was the one line that Paul originally didn't like, but John did, and convinced Paul to leave it in the song.

Jtal909 is right, joe, and that's part of the reason why I like that line so much. And darky, I liked your analysis of the lyrics. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

"Hey Jude" became a landmark song when it was released. The first time any song played on the radio regularly that lasted more than the standard 3 minute song. BTW, thanks for the analyze, Darky.
