View Full Version : Get Back on MTV

I was channel surfing about 5 minutes ago, and came across MTV. They played that "Brand Spankin' New" thing, and I'm sitting there thinking, 'What is there some new *NSync video out or something?' Well, they begin the video and I'm looking at the screen thinkingm 'God that looks like The Rooftop of Apple Recors, and damn, they look like the Beatles." My immediate thoughts weren't, 'Oh it is the Beatles' they were, 'Hey are the Rutles releasing something new?' But, much to my amamzement the uh, whatchamcallit, the text they show to identify a video (there's got to be a term for that) read "The Beatles, 'Get Back' from the Rooftop of Apple Records, from the album '1'" yada, yada.
I dunno, thought it was pretty damn cool. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif But I'm easily excited sometimes..

That is so very cool! I haven't watched MTV on purpose in years, but I will obviously have to start!

I'd be quite prepared for that eventuality

As will I. I remember watching MTV when it first came out in 1981. They had several Beatles videos. I'm glad they've decided to start playing them again.

Thanks, Pyro. I'll have to give MTV a look-see, which will be unusual for me!

There are a lot of thing MTV shouldn't have stopped, if ya ask me. And I don't just mean music (I don't think the "M" stands for music anymore.) Anyway, in the midst of not playing music, MTV had tons of show, most of which sucked, but there were a few golden ones. Like "Sifl and Olly" How great was Sifl and Olly? and "Downtown" those were two great shows - both of which were nixed after one season.

You sure got that right. It may be hard to believe, but MTV was the brainchild of none other than Michael Nesmith, one of the Monkees. The original concept was to do nothing but play videos and clips of artists from the '50s on up.
Sometime during the mid-80s, their format changed and some really weird stuff was being shown. That was about the time I lost interest in it.

This is just an idea but we could try to get 'Get Back' on TRL, yes it's probably one of the most over rated shows on television to date but it would be neat to have GEt back on the countdown and possibly conquer yet another chart putting the boy bands soundly into their places. What do you all think?

I dunno, there are an amazing amount of teenyboppers who are really determined to keep their TRL countdown... I mean, tons... I've heard stories of bands getting thousands of people to vote for like 3 hours and still, nada.
Plus, I always thought the show was rigged - but since I'm *not* all-knowing...

I think it's worth a shot, we can get some good music on MTV for once. I think you can vote on the MTV web site.

Yeah I checked it out, to vote you'd have to do a write in vote (ie. the other choice) but I've heard that if a video is voted for enough as a write in then they make it a choice.

Yeah I saw it at like 3 in the morning (don't ask)
I was like.. MY GOD.. music.. on MTV? Have I died and gone to heaven? Well no because after the video ended A rerun of Real World came on.. blah.
Hey.. CD recomendation alert... U2's new album.. in my opinion a must get.. it's been compared to Rubber Soul in at least two reviews I've read on the basis of each song is like it's own peice of art.
If you've never liked U2 this album doesn't sound like them, and if you love U2 it's fresh new and exciting.
Track 2.. It's like John wrote the music himself...
Ahh enough rambling!

I'm up for at least trying. But we have to make one promise: none of us will be that person on video who always insists on screaming once their done requesting. I hate that too.
We're gonna hafta gather a huge group of people and set up like certain days to all attack the polls and vote a bazillion times. I've been on a few of these booster sort of things, and mailing list can be a good idea so you can set up times and send reminders of days and stuff. Just a thought.

Actually if any one person votes more than once I heard that they subtract a few from the videos total count of votes to keep it fair. I can't remember what it is called but I've been to lots of websites to keep it as one vote per person. Anyway, I do agree with you on the organizing a day for everyone to start voting.

Huh, I've never heard that. Interesting though - wouldn't surprise me.
The problem about voting is that the show's @ 330 or something and if someone wants to vote and they have (in my case) school, or sommthing else that takes the day, it cn be difficult. Not impossible, but difficult.
Maybe we should set up an egroup or something. ::shrugs::

I think that starting tomorrow it comes on at 4 instead of 330 but you can vote in the evenings the night before I believe.
Maybe we should start an e-group do you know how to do those things? I can hardly set up a website with the easy creator let alone anything I'm not really familiar or that involves more steps then the registration to this message forum.

Ok, TRL is 'Total Request Live' a show where the fans pick the top ten videos of the day, by voting online, calling on the phone, or screaming like a bloody fool into a mic while they video tape you. I've stopped watching it but I would sure as heck watch it if the Beatles were on it. But if you choose to watch it to see it for yourself I must warn you that it is saturated with many a sad excuse for music, I think we'd be doing it a favor by putting the Beatles on the show.

Sure, it's no problem =] I like fooling aorund with stuff on the web - I'm no expert, but apparently I'm an advanced amateur with html and stuff (or so says my puter-teacher-guy)
And particular name to go for? BeatleBoosters or something (don't mind me, I'm bad at naming things like these)

Don't worry that is about as creative as I could get without actually putting some effort into thinking of a name. hmmm... well my brain has been robbed of all functions except motor skills and basic typing skills right now so I am drawing blanks. We can go with Beatleboosters unless you think of something you like better.
This is really stupid but, Beatlesbumrush or P.B.B. ( people for the boosting of the beatles), aggh just forget that one that's stupid too.

January 5th, at 8:35 am Central time they played it again. Still got the "new" thing at the bottom of the screen. Shoiuld we tell them it's ben nearly 32 years? If the Beatles(any video) were on TRL, my opinion of it would go from 1 to 100.

I'd say that album (called "All That You Can't Leave Behind") is the best album issued last year. And I'm counting out "1" only because it's not an "original" album, since all its songs have been known for awhile. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
Anyway, I agree with Jeni's opinion. That album is a MUST. Listen to "Kite" and "Wild Honey". They sound like Paul wrote them. And you can notice a lot of Beatle influences in tracks like "Stuck In A Moment" and "Grace". I've never been into U2 too much, but I really loved this particular album.
