That reminds me of this news article:
Poor Films Explains Box Office Slump - Survey (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050829/en_nm/slump_dc_2)
Wow, seriously!? Thanks, survey people!
Seriously, though, with movies like "Stealth," "The Cave," and "Remake of TV Show Part 846," how could we think any differently? This movie season has had a few good flicks, but a whole lot of stinkers.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't know where they get the idea that you can take a t.v. show and expect to turn it into a good movie. Even a lot of the movie remakes aren't that good.
I will admit there are a few exceptions. Batman (not "too" bad but still a bit cheesy), Mission Impossible (Excellent, I thought) and then there was...Hmm, nope not that one. How about.......no that stunk too. Darn, now I'm out of ideas.
I think the worst one so far has to be "The Dukes Of Hazzard". In my opinion, they murdered that. And Jessica Simpsons version of "These Boots Are Made For Walking" , I am too polite to say here of what I think she looked and acted like nevermind the fact you couldn't tell if she was singing or was in the middle of something with her hubby.

I think most of the mainstream movies are crap as is most mainstream music. But dig deeper, more likely on DVD than cinema and you will still find gems. Cinema will only show big budget as most cinemas are now owned by the film companies.

This woman and I were walking towards each other in Starbucks this morning and we did that jog back and forth thing that you do when you're in each other's way. Finally, I stepped to the side so she could pass, but apparently I stepped to the WRONG side because she had to walk a step or two out of her way to get where she wanted to go. You should have seen the look she gave me. Like I'd just clubbed her puppy to death or something! I have never seen such a nasty, horrified, mean look on a person in my life! I'm sure she's going around the rest of the day telling people what a horrible person I am. I have no idea what I did to offend her so much other than perhaps not be psychic....

A little background on my job:
I work in the print center at my school. Part of my job is to make copies. Katharina, makin' copies...
Anyway. Today is the day that people graduating this term get all their paperwork, pay their bills, and basically get their stuff in order before they leave the school.
So.
This has been scheduled since before the term started. Do the people in the various departments get their work done ahead of time so I can make copies? Of COURSE not! That'd be too much like right!
So, now, I'm basically being held hostage in the Print Center, making copies of a bunch of stuff that could have been done, say, last week or so. Send help or lunch this way, please and thank you.

My MI for today: It's Alberta's Centennial birthday tomorrow, but the province is too wrapped up in making money to give people a single day off to celebrate. We have festivals and celebrations going on in the city all day tomorrow, but everyone will be stuck in their offices all day instead of being able to attend, or even spend the time with their family. Including me, they choose tomorrow of all days to start school again for us. :angry9:

Ah yes, thanks MT! Me too. I don't have a whole lot of understanding and patience for people who treat me like dirt. Maybe that makes me a mean/angry person, but I'm ok with that. I treat everybody well first and if they continue to treat me well, I continue to treat them well, but if they start treating me like crap, screw it, I don't have time to stress over people like that.

I was chatting with my aunt this morning, and I started feeling very sad/frustrated by the things she was telling me. Her daughter is very handicapped, and although she's living at home she needs constant care and my aunt can't provide it all herself. Unfortunately, because of problems with our government, she has no wheelchair, no home-care nurse, and her special-needs school is on strike. She NEEDS all of those things, it's not just one of those nice-to-have services. And all because of politics. :angry1:

Don't take it too hard Lizzy. My 2 brothers flunked their first time taking the test (one flunked twice). One ended up as a cab driver for awhile and the other owns a car, a truck and a boat. It may be disappointing at first but just think of it this way. You know where you went wrong so the next time you take the test, you'll ace it.

LOL, I just PM-ed her the same thing. I flunked mine the first time too and now I've been driving for 25+ years with a spotless record. Just means that you either needed a little more practice or that you were nervous. Nothing to stress about.
Although I recall listening to "Abbey Road" on headphones, REALLY LOUD after I flunked. Worth a try. :wink1:

oh no! that is gross.
My maggots were caused by they old lady putting chicken bones in her bin next door and not putting the lid on, we had a storm last night and we had the curtains open to watch the lightening, it was about midnight and i noticed all these little white blobs wriggling up the glass french doors! It was millions of maggots trying to get in, riding on the water from the rain and heading for the light, some managed to get in through a gap and were wriggling on the carpet, it was horrid, Jorge managed to sweep most of them out the way and he moved the bin to the back of the lady's garden and then we put bleach outside of the doors.

Um, anyway.
I got stuck on a group project with someone who can't type (and he's my age), so now I get stuck with doing it for him.
And, to be honest, I think he plagiarized his entire section of this paper, because it goes from his style of writing (with his tenuous grasp on the English language) to a very fluid style of writing that wasn't there in the first two pages.
So, yeah. I'll be rewriting his part, too, so myself and the other girl in our group don't get busted for his stupidity. FUN.

Is it too much to ask that someone notifiy me of this? I found out only because I ran into my coworker last night and when I said "see you in the morning" he told me. Sigh.....

I say let 'er flunk! :devil7: Seriously, I had someone like that in high school who basically made my life a living hell UNTIL she needed something from me, and I was foolish enough to help her. And she got an A in the class and I didn't. That was the LAST TIME I ever helped someone who wasn't a friend to begin with. Maybe that sounds intolerant, but if this chick has really made you miserable before, Lizzy, then you don't owe her a thing and she should be best left to fend for herself, IMO.

When people on Yahoo groups (or similar types of things) don't have anything to add to a post, but feel the need to quote it and add "LOL!" or "Cool!" or whatever, so you end up reading one coherent/relevant/funny post and then 25 "LOL!"'s.
Or, when somebody posts a question and then 25 people answer it and then the original poster posts 25 individual posts thanking each one of the people who answered for answering but adds no commentary to the answer, just 25 "Thanks!" posts. Why not one big post saying "Thanks to everybody who answered my question!"?
Because (honestly, this is my last pet peeve about these groups) then you'll get some idiot whose feelings are hurt that you didn't mention their PARTICULAR answer and they'll get all "Nobody pays any attention to me...whine whine whine". Oh shut up. The world doesn't revolve around you.

I will look before I leap and simply say "yes a doozy on the way" :)
Did it storm after all of that? I love huge thunderstorms, provided I'm in a nice dry house or apartment, that's why I ask...but one of the coolest evenings I ever had was when I had an apartment in the suburbs with a huge terrace door, and a friend of mine and I stood there watching this enormous thunderstorm through the glass door -- it was awesome!
We haven't had rain here in a month. They say we'll get some tomorrow...I'll believe it when I see it.

A couple of days ago I signed up for an advanced Spanish class at a community college and I just found out that the class was cancelled because they didn't get enough people to sign up. The beginners' class is always full, the intermediate class normally gets only a handful of students, and apparently nobody wants to take the advanced class. According to the faculty members that I've talked to, it's always that way (at least when it comes to language courses). Very strange... and frustrating! :-(

I am with you, the whole city I live in has been replacing all the storm water drain-off pipes for 2 years and still going strong, they are not done yet, and some of these pipes are as wide as a road, this will go on for years, never mind the construction they do on all the highways during the good months of weather (8 months out of the year), that takes 2-3 years to complete, traffic nightmares... :hammer2: darn that construction!

My company may want to send me to a 3 day training class in Washington DC...ON THE SAME DAY AS THE MCCARTNEY CONCERT HERE IN CHICAGO!!!!!!!!! :angry1: Obviously, I'm not going to go, but of course, it'll have repercussions on my job and my review. That so sucks, I've had the tickets for SIX FREAKING MONTHS, but they consider $250 nothing and going to a concert frivoulous, so I'm not going to tell them WHY I can't go, just that I have plans. What my plans are are none of their freaking business.
HMVNipper
Sep 21, 2005, 12:44 PM
Oh man, Suz, that SUCKS. I worked for a long time for a company that used to pull that kind of thing all the time -- one fellow I worked with had been planning a ski vacation with other people that he then had to cancel entirely, so it didn't only affect him, but the two other friends he was supposed to go away with, but they told him if he didn't go to the meeting they'd scheduled for him he'd be fired instead.
I hope your company does not do that to you -- and it is probably a good thing not to tell them WHY you can't go on the trip, they'd certainly hold that against you. If they insist on an explanation and a reason, make up some really intense family committment thing, that might fly.
What boggles me is that companies make this big show of "balancing work and personal life," but heaven help you if you WANT to have a personal life...or take a vacation...or if you get sick... My husband gets over four weeks of time off per year since he's been at his company so long, but they won't let him take more than a week or a week and a half at one stretch (and they don't like the week and a half scenario!) and put up roadblocks when he tries to take the time to which he is supposedly entitled. He isn't allowed to carry days over into the next calendar year, so if he doesn't use it, he loses it. Sometimes I think that's what they WANT him to do -- lose the time instead of taking it! Why GIVE it to employees then??? I do not see the point.
Geez, that just stinks, I'm so sorry it happened to you!

There's still hope they may assign me the week before or after and I won't have to make a stink. The thing is, I wouldn't even know this was in the works if I didn't have a stoolie on the inside of this project. If they sprang this on me with like a week's warning, I would be even MORE ticked off.
