What does Lady Madonna do on a Saturday night? Ever notice there is no mention of it in the song?

I had noticed that and my guess is that since saturday is the only day with more than two syllables it just didn't fit. Or maybe they just thought they'd let the poor woman have her own day of rest.

I've just always thought it was a boo-boo as was Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, MACCA GIRL!
Paul didn't realize it until the 90s whilst writing out the lyrics for an American tv show. xo http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/kiss2.gif

Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face is a booboo? I always thought that was intentional and Desmond was just, ya know, "interesting".

I, too thought Desmond's role reversal with Molly was intentional. I had no idea that was a blooper.

According to Beatlesongs, the Beatles did so many takes of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" that the others got mad at Paul. When he finally recorded what sounded like the perfect take, he realized he switched Desmond and Molly. "Oh, it sounds great anyway," Paul said. "Let's just leave it in -- create a bit of confusion there. Everyone will wonder whether Desmond's a bisexual or a transvestite." (I'm only quoting Paul here, please don't http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/ignore.gif me.)

This is a great thread, guys! SF4 is absolutely correct. Funny thing is, I enjoyed the song because I always thought Paul had intentionally written Desmond as a rather colorful character. Paul threw in the towel at the end and said, "Aw, forget it! People will just think he's a cross dresser;" which is exactly what I'd been thinking all along!
Any fellow Fab Four fans out there? Ever notice how Ardy flubs that last line each and every time? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/kiss2.gif

...love those moments of sublime divinity & perfection.
A lot like Ringo sneaking in from the loo and getting to his drums at the PERFECT time on Hey Jude, and it became the take they used. I love that; I love it to pieces!

It was indeed a blooper, though not a bad one as it turned out.
From "A Hard Day's Write"...
"When recording the vocals, Paul made a mistake in singing that Desmond, rather than Molly, 'stayed at home and did his pretty face'. The other Beatles liked the slip and so it was kept. Paul loved the song and wanted it to be a single. John always hated it."

Yes but that's John's mean piano intro which sets the whole tone of the take which they used & Paul loved.

Interesting fact!!! Paul unintentionally found out that he had left Saturday out. He only realised after the song had been long written after someone actually asked him that question!
