"Thingumybob" was the album Paul released that was a remake of his Ram LP, except it was all instrumental. Is this what you are talking about, Darky?

No, definitely not. It's a song recorded in 1967. And it has nothing to do with "Ram". But it's an instrumental called "Thingumybob" which appears to be credited to Lennon/McCartney and recorded by some guys called the Black Dyke Mills Band. I'm beginning to think it has nothing to do with them, though.

Darkhorse, go to www.beatletracks.com (http://www.beatletracks.com) and look under the section Not A Second Time. This was the second single released on Apple and it was written by Paul as a series theme song. There are also a few web sites for the Black Dyke Mills Band. Hope this helps you!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/smile1.gif

Sorry darkhorse, I sometimes get Thingumybob and Thrillington mixed. Didn't mean to confuse you any.

Alright, I'm downloading a set of songs. All of them have on their "plus" side that they are written either by John and Paul or by George, but sung by other artists.

Most songs really sound like written by them. High points are "Badge" by Cream, "Sour Milk Sea" by Jackie Lomax, "Goodbye" by Mary Hopkin, "Bad To Me" and "From A Window" by Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas and of course "Come And Get It" by Badfinger.

And then, in doing so, I found myself with a song called "Thingumybob", by Black Dyke Mills Band, apparently from 1967.

It sounds sooooooo 1920 to me (almost like "Walking In The Park With Eloise")... and I don't even know if this is a Lennon/McCartney composition. If it is, who wrote it (it's just an instrumental)? Where did it appear at the first time? Waiting for some light, thank you. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

OK, I suppose I can get some help out of you for the list I'm making. What other songs (besides from these ones) do you know that were written by a member of The Beatles, but first released by other artists? So far, and only from The Beatles years (1964-1970), I have these ones:

I'll Be On My Way (Billy J Kramer & Dakotas)
Bad To Me (Billy J Kramer & Dakotas)
Tip Of My Tongue (Tommy Quickly)
Hello Little Girl (The Fourmost)
Love Of The Loved (Cilla Black)
I'll Keep You Satisfied (Billy J Kramer & Dakotas)
I'm In Love (The Fourmost)
World Without Love (Peter & Gordon)
Like Dreamers Do (The Applejacks)
One And One Is Two (Mike Shannon & The Strangers)
Nobody I Know (Peter & Gordon)
From A Window (Billy J Kramer & Dakotas)
It's For You (Cilla Black)
I Don't Want To See You Again (Peter & Gordon)
That Means A Lot (PJ Proby)
Woman (Peter & Gordon)
Theme From 'The Family Way' (George Martin Orchestra)
Catcall (Chris Barber Band)
Step Inside Love (Cilla Black)
Thingumybob (Black Dyke Mills Band)
Badge (Cream)
Sour Milk Sea (Jackie Lomax)
Goodbye (Mary Hopkin)
Penina (Carlos Mendes)
Come And Get It (Badfinger)

I'm not downloading covers (e.g. Joe Cocker's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends", or Elton John's "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds), but songs that were composed intentionally for other artists... Comments? Suggestions?

On page 2 of the discographies link on the beatlelinks home page, there's a listing for letmetakeyoudown.Go to Beatles Contributions and they have lists of songs listed by the artist who recorded them. They also have seperate lists, depending on which Beatle you're looking into.I believe it also states when the songs were released.
