View Full Version : Beatle... instrumentals!!..

Hi everyone,

I just realized after writing my last posting, that another good topic of conversation in the land of The Beatles, are
instrumentals of their work-- any thoughts
about those, good or not so good? Sad or
not so sad?... For example, when I come back to hearing "This Boy" on AHDN, though
it's a beautiful arrangement, I find myself
feeling sad; yet when I hear that "parade-
like" instrumental piece on HELP, I start
to feel quite happy!--(kind of almost like
Ringo's saving the day!...)

There have been several instrumentals of the Beatles music. Some are pretty good, while others should never have been released. The one instrumental I truly like is of their own, "Flying", from the MMT LP/EP. Somewhat surreal in nature, but it is a good composition.

I like "Cry For A Shadow", "12-Bar Original" and pretty much all the "Wonderwall Music By George Harrison" album, as well as "Momma Miss America", "Valentine Day" and "Hot As Sun/Glasses", from "McCartney"

My favourites are Paul's early instrumentals, Cayenne and Catcall (originally known as Catswalk), and of course John & George's Cry For A Shadow.

My favourite instrumental of The Beatles is Flying and I have neverunderstood why this one is so short in time and there are no demo's of the longer version which I believe there must be.

I have a bootleg of this song. It's longer and the mix is a little different, but near the end it kind of cuts into this recording of some other band doing like a quick shuffle or something. I can't even explain it. Wait, was this on the Anthology release? I'm too lazy to get up and check!!!

I love the instrumentals on the Anthologies, like Eleanor Rigby and I'm Only Sleeping 'n stuff.

On my Ultimate Experience set I have the complete version (9 mins 38 secs!) as well as another alternate version (2 mins 5 secs) with a jazzy ending (Jerry, this is prob the one you were talking about). http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

There's also a nice instrumental of "Within You Without You" on Anthology 2. I have another CD titled "The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra plays The Beatles" which is basically a nice selection of instrumentals - Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, Sgt Pepper's LHCB, She's Leaving Home, All You Need Is Love, I Am The Walrus, Blackbird, The Long And Winding Road, She Loves You, Fool On The Hill, Mull Of Kintyre as well as a neat Beatlephonic Medley.

Some critic said that "Party Seacombe" on "Wonderwall Music" was a better, longer version of "Flying". I agree with him. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

'Blown away' and 'very appreciative'. I rarely comment in these topics because though I was taught piano, I don't call myself a musician, and I am way out of my depth. I 'hear' the music and love it but I am here for different reasons. Though I don't comment, be sure I am always here 'reading'!

Do I read a sort of hidden message here about the use of two words which also are a song title of a George single?

Oh dear. 'Not guilty'. I would never make jokes of such a tragic and horrific thing.
But thanks anyway. Just to explain JC, I have always lived in a very unartistic environment. I know that is no excuse because if you are a real artist it burns inside of you and comes out anyway. However, I have such a love and appreciation of others art. My interest in architecture, music and painting is very alive.

Don't worry!-- I totally understand!! You might have misunderstood
me(?) Believe me, I wasn't at all implicating
you "were guilty" in any way-- I was just
reminded of these rough times by simply
the word interplay you mentioned, and to
me, "words" or "lyrical interplay",etc. has
often been a strange yet interesting device
I think that all of us humans dish out from
time to time-- whether we realize it or not,
with certain similarities or metaphorical things in life. I feel bad in that you didn't
need to "explain"-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cry1.gif but I appreciate
you did nonethaless. I mean, I think you'll
agree with me that chatting in a forum like
this is bound to get a bit fiesty from time
to time(?)-- especially with us folks who
I'd consider on the "more than average"
intelligent side.. Meantime, it's a nice thing that you have an interest in architecture & painting as well as music... a
great thing I say!! For me, it's mostly been
music, but maybe one day I'll get into more
of those kinds of interests(!)
