I`m a junior member, so i don`t know if someone tried the topic i want to share now
(excuse me,please!).
The Topic: most overrated beatles song.
I think there are many overrated songs, i can hear the discussions, but my votes are...
-Hello Goodbye: a bubble gummers song !
-I want to hold your hand: easy listening, i
can`t understand why appears among the top
songs of all times.
-Yellow Submarine: ouchhh! for babys.
------------------
I`ll get high with a little help from my friends.

"Eight Days A Week". Always a big crowd pleaser when a Beatles band plays it, but I can't fathom why.

"Michelle"... awful lyrics... and "Eight Days A Week"... horrible lyrics. But both have great music anyway.

Although I respect the talent behind the creation of "Something" and the distinctive Harrison guitar, I have never been able to really like this song. "Something" remains one of my least favorites.
I just don't like "Birthday" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsdown.gif at all and I might be in the minority on that one.

I have always found Hey Jude a bit overlong and pretensious due to its overlength.
billie-I want to hold your hand is venerated as it is because this somg caused worldwide Beatlemania. This broke them in the USA.

I don't think there are a lot of over rated Beatles tunes, but in my opinion, Love Me Do tops the short list.

Hello nowhere man, Revolution 9 is not a song, and isn`t overrated, that`s truth.
I think there are other songs I consider so overrated....
-Penny Lane: There`s so sugar on this song.
-Michelle: Beatles????
-Come Together: John at his worst moment.
and...The whole Revolver album, pure trash!!!

but indeed highly overrated as opposed to
say, "Strawberry Fields" and "I Will".

Whoa!!!!! Revolver was the stepping stone for Sgt. Pepper's LHCB. Several great tracks on on this album. In fact, after the Beatles released Revolver, the Beach Boys were inspired to record Pet Sounds.

Alright... We all know why we love "Revolver". What I would really like to hear is why did he say it was "pure trash"... It's pure gold (no pun intended), and most people in the world recognize it... so the arguments against that should be an interesting thing to hear. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, I did say "ironically" because 'Shears came down so hard on "Revolver." That 1966 gem remains one of my favorite collections today. I wasn't criticizing 'Shears, just voicing surprise at his/her strong adverse reaction. I love "Revolver."
"I Want to Tell You" is my favorite song on that entire collection. The lyrics are so a propos and I can relate to them 100%. As a late talker and one who has a constitutional aversion for arguments and confrontation, I can certainly understand the "...sometimes I wish I knew you well so I could speak my mind and tell you. Maybe you'd understand."
Every time I hear "But if I seem to act unkind/it's only me, it's not my mind. That is confusing things," I feel as if I found a good source of expression. That song is such a gem.

JC-- Thanks for letting
me know Beatlebangs'64. I wasn't quite sure
if that's what you meant originally...
As a late talker and one who has a constitutional aversion for arguments and confrontation, I can certainly understand the "...sometimes I wish I knew you well so I could speak my mind and tell you. Maybe you'd understand."
JC-- Yeah, I know what
you mean by that great quote!... I really like it in that there seems to be a comfort
zone with really letting know a person how you feel about certain things; especially
if you know them well. Otherwise if you don't
mind me saying, I feel your comment ala:
"constitutional aversion" is very "Churchill"
(if you know what I mean). I've gotta use
that smiley to celebrate it!-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/churchill.gif-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

JC-- I know what you mean
there also. And yet, some of my insight there
is that at times, I feel that maybe the lyric shoud've been: "it's only my mind, not
me"... but of course it wouldn't have scanned as well as a lyric if it were that--
and it was put together by one of our heroes... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Respecting other people's opinions is very cool and I think we should do it.
But Revolver is NOT "pure trash"!!!!!!!!!!
Right: Eleanor Rigby, Taxman, I'm Only Sleeping, Love You To, She Said She Said, For No One, Tomorrow Never Knows. Oh yeah, that is PURE trash, lemme tell ya.
billyshears, you can call Revolver trash ONLY after you've written an album full of better songs than those.

Sometimes I don't even classify "Yesterday" as a Beatles song. Paul is the only member on the record. The string quartet was arranged by George Martin. John, George and Ringo don't appear anywhere on this song.

FPSHOT, you said "overrated? Yesterday, booorrrring" and i said something stupid like "but Yesterday's not on Revolver." I just realized that you're talking about overrated in GENERAL.
Damn I'm dumb sometimes.
And once again for the record- Yesterday is DEFINITELY overrated!

40, dumb/stupid, make up your mind, but looking at the last line (about yesterday), you're neither of both, there is nothing wrong with you at all.

one of the most "underrated" B. songs?!-- I

it was like I heard not only The Beatles of

John Mclaughlin, Black Sabbath, The Four

"I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is a bit underrated, IMO. Somewhat bluesy in origin, it does have a strong musical backing to it. It took roughly 8 months from inception to final mix and shows some style of John's "new" songwriting technique.

mean John's guitar "fingerpicking" technique
on the song, or the way he was writing in general with the tune?..

In case you refer to the basic guitar 'fingerpicking' which goes from almost beginning to end, impo that's George.

I thought I heard somewhere that when George sang "I Want To Tell You" on tour in Japan in '91, he changed the lyrics to 'It isn't me, it's just my mind'. Does anyone have a copy of the recording to confirm this?

I must correct probably, cause Lewishon although not really specified, writes that they did various overdubs of the Lennon/Harrison guitars to create the massive sound that they wanted. It does not say if that refers also to the fingerpicking part, but I guess it may well be so, or at least near the end where the actual massive finale starts.

"Hello Goodbye" is rather overrated with its simplicity towards the lyrics. Generally reminds me of bubble-gum pop that was being released during that time frame.

So, if you go to the Revolver survivor topic,
and read carefully the reasons you gave, many songs on that album are UNEVEN; I was amazed because many posts were similars to my
