Giving the peace sign in America...but reverse it in England & watch out, am I right Brits, or what?
(on a live Hendrix album he says, this means peace...not this. i assume he was refering to the peace sign reverso!)

I thought it was the same everywhere!!! But yes, if the fingers are facing to the front, that is, with the fingernail facing outwards(?!) it is considered rude!!! Although while to some the other way round it's a peace sing, some call it a "Victory V"!!!

Kinda off topic, but the last major league ball game I went to I tried to flash the peace sign everytime they did the "fans in the stands" shots for the big screen. What better message is there to send?

Ringo was using three fingers for a while (something about terrorists, I think). I thought the peace sign was universal, but apparently I'm shamefully naive! Whoops!

Yeah i think it means something insulting the other way around....I see it a lot on Are you being served when the staff is trying to insult upper middle management or whomever...

I remember at school we'd hold up our first three fingers and saying: 'Read between the lines'

it is the anti-peace sign and it means "up yours."

Yes, being a professional and having a doctorate in how to offend people I can definately say that the reverse peace sign is basically an indicator that you want the hand signal reciever to go away :teeth1: :laugh1:

The peace sign 'V'ictory is given with the palm facing away from the body in the UK. The other way (with the palm facing in and the back of the hand facing away) is considered an insult because back in t'olden days when we were at war with the French they used to cut the index and middle fingers off of the archers so that they couldn't fire arrows. Thus, waving these two fingers at the foe was taunting them for they had not been able to caputre them yet.

Or something.

But doesn't the middle finger mean, "hello" in Los Angeles? ;)
