I feel really strongly about this and would really like to know what everyone else thinks of this.
How many of you believe that the group work was ESSENTIALLY different from the solo work?
Of course it couldnt be the same, but... you could hardly call it beatles if someone else sang it. And why was this, why? even though they wrote their own songs in the end?

i think a lot to do with it, was them using different producers who would do a lot of the backround arangements like horns vocals etc.
as well as each one experimenting with different styles and a desire not to sound like the Beatles.

That sounds like a reasonable answer, joe.

I certainly agree... the group works are essentially different than their solo works. They have to be, don't they? Anytime you work with someone, there are compromises to be made that don't come up when you are working alone.

This holds true in a variety of situations, not just musically, y'know. For instance, I know I would have been a far different person today had I not married http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cat.gif "All Those Years Ago". Would I have been a better person? worse? Who knows? And since one can't turn back the clock, there is no point in postulating the differences, other than as an intellectual excercise. It's an interesting excercise, to be sure... but for all intents and purposes, if I were to become single tomorrow, I would still not become the person I would have been had we not married.

Learning to compromise is just that... a learning experience. You don't unlearn things you've put into practice for that length of time. You either keep doing them the same way, or you learn how to alter it, but unlearning it is impossible.

So, having twisted myself up in knots now, let me see if I can find that red strand of my original thought here: While I believe the lads solo works are essentially different from their work together, I also believe that none of them would have had the same successes had they not performed together to begin with. Clear as mud???

Thanks for explaining all that detail to me, sleepy. I'm in India, you know and I can't talk about the Beatles to anybody at all. I'm afraid I didnt make myself very clear yesterday.
I just wanted to find out how many people think, and can identify, and are everyday identifying more and more why nobody could compare even a b-side beatles song like 'not a second time' to even the best of lennon, say 'imagine'. I dont mean musically or melodically one was better than the other. Nobody can judge that, all I mean is, I like the Beatles just because of their Beatleness, and not because of their tunes or lyrics or anything. I'd really like to know if people like the beatles because of their songs and all or like i said..
(sorry rather incoherent)
