I recently purchased The Monkees Essentials and it really takes me back to watching their show every Saturday morning. :smile1: I remember starting out crushing on Peter Tork but later starting liking Mickey Dolenz because he was funny. Of course, most of my friends loved Davey Jones. How about you?
I know they were an American rip off of The Beatles, but The Monkees were still a cute and adorable foursome from that era. And made some pretty rockin' , memorable hits. :teeth1:

Anyway.....My vote goes to: :flower2: Mickey Dolenz :flower2:

(I was gonna do this as a Poll---but I guess we don't do those anymore. :look: )

Peter--one of two true musicians in the group (at the time they were hired) and the only one of those two who appreciates the fact that he was in The Monkees.

i think peter was an awesome musician (if you can find it, check out some of his classical piano stuff) , davy jones was absolutely adorable and british, mike was really funny in a john(lennon)-esque way, and i'm not really sure about micky. my favorite would either have to be peter or davy.

I think I've seen all the Monkees episodes! Mike is my favorite - the hat is just too cool. I believe he's the best actor, too. :wink1:

When I was a little kid and watched them when they were first popular, I liked Davy because he was cute and non-threatening (Hey, I was 7!) and had that adorable accent. But when I rewatched the shows later when I was an adult, I liked Mike best because he got all the dry humor lines.

When I first started watching the show, I loved Peter just because he was so loveable and goofy. :smile1: But after a while, I started to like Mike better - partly because I actually preferred his songs to the other guys'!

Are the shows out on DVD? If not, they should be. I could use a Monkees fix right about now.

I'm not sure how many seasons there were but at least the first two seasons are out.

I'm not a fan of them really, but a couple of their songs are good and the show was kinda funny. I dont really care about Davy & Mickey, but they're ok. I like Mike & Peter the best. Mike, i dont know why, probably cuz he was an actual musician, and Peter cuz on the show he reminded me of Ringo from the cartoon series (kinda dumb, still funny, doesnt sing much, that sort of thing)

I met Mickey Dolenz once at Liverpool Days in Pasadena, a few years ago. He was very nice and forthcoming. He shared some of his memories of his time spent with the Beatles. Although, there were a few things he refused to comment on--for privacy reasons, I suppose. I respected him for that. Mickey's a very admirable, likeable person with a good heart. Just someone you wouldn't mind hanging around with for a day. :smile1:

The impression I always got about Mike Nesmith is that he always seemed annoyed and didn't want to be a Monkee. I dunno. Just my view. There were times I just wanted to rip that knitted cap right off of his head! :laugh2:

Mike's mother invented "white out".The stuff you used when you made a mistake while using a pen or typing. He became very rich after that.

My favorite was Davy Jones. I remember it well.... In 1967 I was going through "Monkee-mania". I was only about 11 or 12, and after loving the Beatles for over 3 years, they were starting to look and sound a little "weird" to me! :bigeyes3: I wasn't mature enough to appreciate "Sgt. Pepper" when it was released, but instead turned to the Monkees albums (which appealed to me more at that time!). I fell instantly in love with Davy (actually all of them, but Davy especially), and all of a sudden all the pictures that I had of Ringo came down off my wall, and tons of Davy pictures went up! :cross2:
This phase only lasted until 1968, when I started loving the Beatles again! Davy's pictures came down, Beatle pictures and posters went back up, and I went out and bought Sgt. Pepper! :sgtpepper :thumbu1:

Davy was my favorite when I was younger (I started watching the show in reruns during the mid '80s), but Micky has become my favorite since I bought the DVD boxed set of the series--he's so off-the-wall! :smile1:

Davey Jones was a horse jocky over here before he went over there, he's only about 2ft tall.

I like Peter Tork.

Hearing that CD with Magill did bring back some memories of watching the show. My favorite Monkee ... hmmmmm, would it be easier if I just told you who my favorite Martian is? :alien2:

Easily Mike Nesmith as his solo career proved he was the most talanted of the members, rio is a precursor of Alt-country in my opinion and the album 'from a engine wing' ( not sure of the title I get it mixed up!) Is a unheralded classic.
