You know,Help! does not sound right without the James Bond Theme tackede to the beginning of it. Probably because I grew up with that version.
I am http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I got an mp3 of it!

I don't think I've ever heard Help with a James Bond theme intro, unless it's in the movie and I just don't recollect it.

It's on all US versions of Help!(the one with the gatefold sleeve and says Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). It's also on all pre 1988 issues of the Red Album(will have catalogue number SKBO-3403).

Yeah! I've heard it! It's on my dad's vinyl! He thought it was the one and only version of the song... I told him it didn't feature the James Bond Theme in the average version.
All my love for The Beatles I owe it to him. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif Thanks dad.

Yet another subject drifting off into oblivion...
Anyway, what about the mono version of Help! If I remember correctly, it's a completely different vocal take from John. It was on the single, and probably on mono copies of the album, and then later on the Rarities LP.

I'm not sure on this but I do have the mono mix as well of the Help! single, and it seems more powerful than the stereo

I prefer the English version, because that's how the beatles released it, it's the original, the bond theme has nothing to do with the Beatles. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
But,you have to understand,we American grew up with this version, for us it's the real one,as are the different mixes of the Revolver cuts on Yesterday and Today, and the false start on I'm Looking through You.

I don't have the american help album and with the cd version now being the same everywhere, thus without the bond them tagged on it, i'm just glad that there are bootlegs. I have one with the american version. The bond theme can be heard in the film "Help" and for the american version of the album "Help" they just put it before the song "Help".
I prefer the English version, because that's how the beatles released it, it's the original, the bond theme has nothing to do with the Beatles.

I understand that Tim, I know that that's the version oficially released in the U.S. back in 1965. On one hand I think it's a shame that those different versions aren't avaiable anymore, I like the version of "I'm looking through you" with the false start. I don't have a problem with that, because the false starts are on the original tape, I wouldn't have minded if that version was released here in Europe and in the rest of the world. But Capitol also made a mess of releasing the Beatles albums, leaving songs from one album and putting them on others, creating albums with material left from other albums etc.

I strongly agree with that. Capitol made an absolute mess of that thing... And now it has caused that North American fans who grew up with those versions of the songs and albums now have to listen to different formats and versions because those were the ways they were released in the rest of the world.
So, North American fans lose... because of Capitol.

I wouldn't say we lose, because it's the Beatles. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
However, I don't think Capitol should take the full blame. Remember that they were owned by EMI. So, if EMI had put their foot down, Capitol would have been forced to release the exact same version here.

But The Bealtes themselves always complaint about the "butching" work Capitol made to their albums, because they didn't released them the way they were "planned" to be released.
Let's put it this way... Would you have liked if they had taken... let's say "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", "Within You Without You" and... "Lovely Rita" off "Sgt.Pepper" and then released a post-Magical Mystery Tour album including those three, plus singles coming from other totally different eras (like "Lady Madonna")... Very confusing, isn't it? There was a point where they couldn't do it anymore, and I'm glad about it. The Beatles were happy about it.

The opening chord to help is a dm7. 3rd sting second fret, 2nd string 1st fret, 1st string 1st fret. I was wondering if any one knew what musicians played on the opening "james Bond" theme. Was it the beatles, an orchesta, or a mix of both? There's a question for "your mother should know".

I'm pretty sure that the first chord to "Help" is a B minor. I've played it about 1,000 times along with the CD, and I haven't been off key yet! Anybody else?

The instrumental pieces of music, like the bond theme, were played by Ken Thorne and his orchestra.

Jerry, I am 100% sure that the opening chord is a Dm7. This may not be the correct chord name but the fingering I stated above is correct. The Dm7 chord is strummed with an open brush stroke from the A string to the small E string, then you go into the chorus which starts in G. If you are playing a B minor, then there's a chance you are not tuned to correct concert pitch (440 hz). Not being in the same string pitch as the beatles will have you playing different chords that will sound correct but are not exactly what "they" are playing. Check the old concert footage and you'll see John playing the verses starting in G. Thus the opening chord has to be Dm7, as B minor doesn't fit with the verses._

Wait a second!! My mistake, I was thinking of A Hard Days Night instead of Help. If you check out a site called "Harmony central" and go to "guitar tabs" you will find the tabliture for "help". Sorry about the mix up, but at least you now know the opening chord for A Hard Days Night now.

I also kind of like my dad. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif He taught me to sing "Yellow Submarine" when I was like 5 years old... And played the Red and Blue album vinyls for me all the time... And I've become a Beatlemaniac thanks to him (and I can proudly say I know more about The Beatles than him, because he also likes other artists like S&G, Neil Diamond, Elton John, Cat Stevens and things like that)... But what you said was just what I think about him. The Beatles are a "lesson" I will never forget. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

George himself called it a multi-chord or a dual chord or something similar, but it is in fact something close to a G7sus4, the tab is here.
