So, what's your relationship with time? Are you always early? Always late? Are you always aware of what time it is or do you only check in once in a while?

If you know it usually takes you half an hour to get somewhere, do you leave exactly 30 minutes before you're supposed to meet somebody there, or do you allow yourself slush time just in case you hit traffic or your bus doesn't come?

I myself am pretty punctual (barring anything really weird like an accident on the road), but not super super early. I think this might be the worst of all worlds...when I show up at 7:00 for a 7:00 meetup, my early friends think I'm late and my late friends think I'm early! LOL!

I'm very very very aware of time ALL the time. Even if I wake up in the middle of the night, the first thing I do is estimate what time it is before I look on the clock and I'm rarely more than 15 minutes off. I wake up every morning 2-3 minutes before my alarm goes off and I feel naked all day (thank god I don't LOOK naked all day) if I forget my watch.

You?

You sound exactly like me. I have to be early, I think it's incredibly rude to be late to anything. I'm aware of time all the time as well. I'm pretty good at estimating what time it is, unless I wake up in the middle of the night. Then I have to stare at my alarm for 2 minutes to make sure that I'm looking at time that I think I'm looking at. I have gotten up at 2:00 in the morning thinking it was 6:30 to get ready for school. :laugh5:
I live and die by my watch! I almost never take it off, unless I'm really bored. But even when I sleep, or take a shower, or swim, I have to have it on.

I am always early for everything - I worry that I'm going to be late if I arrive *just* on time, so I give myself plenty of time so I'm not panicking at the last minute. :smile1:

I always have to wear my watch too! My battery just died a few weeks ago, and I had to wait a day or two before getting a new one... and I never realized how much I really use my watch. I was looking at my wrist every two minutes throughout the day, and I felt extremely naked and confused without it there. I have THE worst tanline because I never take off my watch, but since the watch is always on, most people will never notice it. :wink1:

So, what's your relationship with time?

We've dated a few times, but it just didn't work out.

I'm late everywhere I go, or I'm running late, which makes me speed, which makes me nervous I'll get a ticket, which makes me drive looking at my rearview mirror to watch out for a CHP!
I really try to leave early, and I always have the best intentions to be on time, but then Dawson's Creek reruns will come on, and I just couldn't BEAR to miss the last ten minutes; thus, I'm late.
Luckily, I work for my family, and nobody is punctual.

I'm always early for things, or at the very worst, on time. I hate being late, and I hate keeping people waiting if they are expecting me. It drives me crazy when people are habitually late for things. I had one friend who was ALWAYS late, no matter what I did -- I used to have to tell her that I wanted her half an hour before I really did and I'd still invariably get a phone call at the appointed time informing me that she hadn't even left her house yet! Particularly lovely when one has a restaurant reservation or has to get to a movie or a concert before it starts...NOT...

I have absolutely no sense of time at all and if I forget to put my watch on the day goes completely out of the window!!!!! I'm never late though. I always know what time I should leave in order to be on time. But as I always go by bus I usually opt for the bus before the one that will get me there just on time, in case it's late!!! I hate to keep people waiting and hate people that keep me waiting!!!!!

I'm quite like you on this one, Susan. I grew up in a house where being on time was considered "late" and it's carried over, altho' now I'm probably a bit closer on "on time" than super early, but I think that' s more do to having to cart two kids around and then having to amuse them/keep them busy if we show up too early.

My friend who I do the most things with is habitually late. It kind of drives me nuts, but I've finally realized I'm not going to change her, so I've just learned to enjoy having a little time to myself at the bar or the restaurant or the festival. Or else I tell her to meet me at 8:30 when I don't really want her to meet me until 9:00.

It used to drive me totally crazy when this other friend would be habitually late because I was always driving her, so I'd pull up in front of her house and she'd NEVER be waiting for me, often she'd be 5, 10 minutes late, and there'd never be parking, so I'd have to circle the block over and over and over, just steaming each time. One day I confronted her with it and she was basically like "Oh well, I run late. Deal." So I was like "Oh well, you don't have a car. If you're not ready at the time WE AGREED ON, I'm leaving without you. Deal." Then she got married so it's hubby's problem now. LOL...

My high school band director (who was a really great guy) always used to tell us: "to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late." Unfortunately, all too often I find myself scrambling to be places on time. (usually work! :wink1:)

One of my friend's family is always late for everybody and everything. Once when we were going swimming, we pulled up to her house and had to wait nearly 15 minutes for her.

When I was in college I'd arrive so early I would always be the very first on in the classroom, and when I worked I was always way early as well (I'd just start early cuz I was on salary, so it was a good thing). But once I had my kids, lol, I changed entirely and now I am late for everything! Kids seem to have their own sense of time which is super long when you want it super short... and super short when you want it super long, lol!

I always leave plenty of time wherever I am off to, my job is totally time based and I have always had a job like that, I was taught by my parents is it rude to be late, I have low tolerance for latecomers, I always have my watch at work, and if I do go out on my own time without a watch I drive myself nuts looking at my wrist, probably others to, wondering if I am counting freckles or what :wink2:

Business wise, phone companies earn quite some money on me for making calls saying "Hi, I am very sorry, something came up (which was me ofcourse leaving far too late hehe) I am running a little late, sorry".. with most regulars I can leave out all after "Hi" because they know me..

For my condition it is good, because often I have to bike faaast to the station to catch a train in time..which mostly succeeds..

For my nerve condition it is not good when I go by car :)

I always have to leave early so that I have plenty of time to prepare myself for where-ever I'm going. However, I often leave *too* early and often get to places 30+ minutes early.

But time as a whole is scary. Remember when you were children and took an eternity to move - having to wait a lifetime between birthdays and christmases? Now time passes so quickly and in the click of the fingers I'm now 22 - I've lived a quarter of my life already...

Scary...

I always like to be on time. I try my best not to be late but because i have to rely on public transport alot its not always that easy. I always phone whoever i'm meeting if i'm going to be late. I always wear a watch - its one thing i can't live without. Overall though, I'd say i'm a pretty good timekeeper although i start to get anxious if i'm late.

I have to be early, I panic when i'm late for anything and I panic when other people are late. It's a trait I get from my dad, he likes to be REALLY early for things - just incase. He used to drop me off half an hour before college started and we only lived 10 minutes away by car, lol.
