I guess that's why I never tan. Just the thought of gooping that stuff onto my skin gives me the willies. I don't think I've used it in years. I refuse to in fact. If I go out into the sun I protect myself by wearing long sleeves and a wide brimmed hat. Come to think of it I can't tolerate any lotion/cream/cologne/whatever on my skin. It's just plain unperfumed soap for me and that's all.

I think most lotion is supposed to protect you from getting a tan, not encourage one. But I'm kind of with you, I don't like using sunscreen either because it usually makes my skin break out. I'm really really pale, but I don't burn super-easily, so I just try to stay out of the noonday sun (gratuitous "Hi Hi Hi" reference) and I wear hats to shield my face from the worst of it.

It's weird, I like lotion on my legs to keep them soft and smooth, but I dislike it on my arms and I haaaaaaate lotion on my hands, it just feels horrible, I hate it!

LOVE sun tan lotion! Or any lotion, perfume, etc.
Morning, Day, and Night!
The smell is wonderful.

Suz, if you have a problem with breakouts from sunscreen, try one formulated for babies. It'll work just as well on you, but it's usually a gentler formula so you won't break out.

I don't like sunscreen but I consider it a necessary evil in this day and age...and there are too many fair-skinned people in our family who have had skin cancers removed for us to play games -- I got some bad sunburns as a child and so now I am diligent about wearing sunscreen and checking for unusual skin changes. And I make sure my son wears sunscreen too, because it's things that happen in childhood that make for potential problems later.

I admit I don't always wear sunscreen lotion, but I'm usually okay without it. The only time I wear it is when I'm outside most of the day swimming or something like that, then make sure I've got some on. I think I've only been burnt once before, when I was maybe 11 or 12, and even then it wasn't that bad. I don't tan super easily, but I'm definately not the type to burn after ten minutes in the sun either.

I don't mind the actual lotion part of it... and I really do like the smell! It just reminds me of summer. :smile1: I like all kind of lotions that smell, and I don't mind the goopiness. I have to put on some sort of cream every time I take a shower, anyways, otherwise I get really itchy and my skin gets very dry. It used to be a pain, but now I don't mind it.

I like the smell of sunblock, but not the feel. Whenever I wear it tho, I'm usually outside doing something, which means I'm sweaty, or I'm swimming, which means I'm in the water and I don't notice it. I always make sure I get my ears covered cause they burn pretty easily, and I use some kind of lip protectant if I'm going to be out for awhile cause I hate the feeling of sunburned lips!

I have to admit, I haven't worn sunblock in years. Tanning lotion is one of my vices.

Heh! I'm with you on this Claire. I've always embraced getting some sun, not block it out. Having part olive skin (from my mother), I use to tan quite well. Now, I just get lobstery. Yes, that is bad and I've done some damage to my skin over the years, I'm sure. However, I have worn sunblock before under certain conditions and I didn't feel repulsed by it.
Gee, it's too bad you hate lotions as well, Matt. I hope you're not dry and scaly as a result. Yuck! Blackguard has dry hands and I'm trying to convince him that using hand lotion really isn't a girlie thing to do. I wonder if Pep Boys makes hand lotion. :laugh5:

Actually, they probably sell GoJo pumice hand cleaner, which helps get the dry skin off while they're washing engine grease/oil/whatever other car fluid they're working with off their hands. :wink1:

I'm really pale, so I burn pretty easily, especially early in the summer, so I have to put on gobs of sunblock when I go on field trips with the kids or any other time I know I'll be out in the sun for more than about 15-20 minutes. Right now my arms are about 5 shades darker than any other skin on my body, particularly on my left arm (amazing how much of a difference the sun coming through the driver's side window makes!!)

Same here!!!!! I start off pale.......if I don't put suncream on I turn a rather garish shade of lobster.......then I peel........then I'm pearly white again!!!!! My arms always seem to tan though, but not the rest of my body!!!!! I once got really badly burnt on the tops of my ears, which REALLY hurt!!!!! Since then, I always wear a sunhat!!!!!

I don't really care for the feel of the sunblock, but the alternative is scarey! :cross2:
