I don't know how many of you know this fact, but the ORIGINAL Parlophone R4949 was to have been How Do You Do It c/w Love Me Do

How much different do you think it would have come out had the originally intended 45 come out?

Don't think it would have made much impact as Love Me Do was not big (in the USA anyway) until after I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You got our attention.

I like "Love Me Do" better than "How Do You Do It" anyway.

This week, the Beatles greatest hits album, "1", is at number forty-nine on the USA album charts. "Wingspan: Hits and History" by Paul McCartney is at number fifteen.

John hated "How Do You Do It" and Gerry & the Pacemakers ended up doing that one. The Beatles (now, this is not bias on MY part) did it much better than the Pacemakers, but John just couldn't stand the song.

Then we will remember things we said today. Yeah.

The ironic thing was that Gerry and the Pacemakers took "How Do You Do It" to #1. But of course, the Beatles came up with a little known song of their own, "Please Please Me". http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Containing EVERY clue ever found about this conspiracy, Paul is Dead - The Conclusive Evidence (http://www.paulisdead.net) will change your mind about this bizarre coverup.

This week, 'Beatles 1' is at No. 52 in the UK Album charts.
This week, 'Wingspan' is at No. 34 in the UK Album charts.

In fact Gerry took his first three songs to #1:
How Do You Do It?
I Like It
You'll Never Walk Alone

btw-GM originally wanted Gerry to do Hello Little Girl..Gerry did it rejected it..and did You'll Never Walk Alone.

The story I've heard was that John hated "How Do You Do It?" so much that he told George Martin he didn't want to record it, and George told him that if he could come up with a better song, he'd let them record that instead. So John went home and wrote "Please Please Me" in less than 12 hours.

I do kind of like the Beatles' version of "How Do You Do It," but have to say that I don't think their version would've hit number one like the Pacemakers' version did. I'm just glad that history turned out the way it did!

That is one of the biggest myths around Nipper.

The chronology:

September 4 1962: Recorded unknown # of takes of How Do You Do It? and at least 15 of Love Me Do. Remixes of HDYDI?(from Take 2) and LMD(from unknown take).
At this point,it is obvious that the 45 was to be HDYDI?/LMD

Sometime between September 5th and 10th: the decision is amde NOT to issue HDYDI?

September 11 1962:Recorded P.S. I Love You and rerecorded Love Me Do.

Okay, Tim, thanks for the correction! I know, so much of what we hear is mythology...I appreciate knowing the REAL story!
