Okay so this Roy Orbison song, (which i dont even know the exact title of) which has the line "anything you want, you got it" sounds kinda Wilbury-ish to me. Does it have anything to do with them?

I'm pretty sure the song was on Orbison's own solo album right after the first Wilbury album. It's totally got that Jeff Lynne acoustic sound, so I'm sure he produced it or wrote it or something.

"You got it" was written by Roy Orbison/Jeff Lynne/Tom Petty and on top of that:

Roy: guitar, lead vocal
Jeff: guitar, piano, back vocals
Tom: guitar, back vocals

... no wonder it sounds like a Wilbury track !

Back vocals.... interesting...I should try that some time :tongue1: I have hair on my back, so I am told...but vocals...mmm...who knows...

It is one of the great songs of Mistery Girl, Roy's album on which ofcourse also George played.

I love this song so much..the combination of Tom, Jeff and Roy was inspiring.

What I call "The Years Of The Wilburys" being the years of the two albums, but also the other projects they worked on, is to me within the best music years in history. Great stuff came out of that.

Yep... 1987-1990, one fine period to be alive and buy records...

George's "Cloud nine"
Roy's "Mystery Girl"
Tom's "Full moon fever"
Jeff's "Armchair theatre"
George's "Cheer down"

... and, of course, the Wilbury material itself...

"You got it", on a Tom Petty documentary, they show of few clips of the three of them working on the song... recording the hand-claps, and then the sha-la-la's... and, of course, that gread lead vocal by "The Big O" !

Add to that what they did with Del Shannon, Duane Eddy, Jim Horn, Ringo, some single B-sides...

Forgot to add... that Jeff produced the track and also played keyboard on it.

I Love that song.

... you're not the only one.

When I got that album (January 1989, fresh off the "Wilbury effect")... little did I know then that about ten years later, Roy would knock the Beatles clear off of my charts !

... and to think that it was the "George connection" that got me to buy that album in the first place...

What reasons for Roy? I'd like to know what made him No.1.

There was rumour in some circles that George sang b/vocal and/or played guitar on "You got it"... but it's quite unlikely that he did...

For one thing, he's credited on "A love so beautiful", so I fail to see why they would NOT include him in the credits for "You got it"...

Secondly, on a Tom Petty documentary, you actually see Tom, Jeff and Roy record the b/vocals, and there's no George in sight...

lennonluvr9 (and others), if you want more Roy songs that sound like they are Wilbury tracks...

On the same album as "You got it" ("Mystery girl"), you have another couple of fine such songs:

A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL (produced by Jeff Lynne)
(Roy Orbsion/Jeff Lynne)

- Roy: lead vocal, accoustic guitar, b/vocal
- Jeff: accoustic guitar, keyboards, bass, b/vocal
- George: accoustic guitar

CALIFORNIA BLUE (produced by Jeff Lynne)
(Roy Orbison/Jeff Lynne/Tom Petty)

- Roy: lead vocal, accoustic guitar, b/vocal
- Jeff: guitars, keyboards, bass, b/vocal
- Tom: accoustic guitar, b/vocal

And, if you consider Jim Keltner as a Wilbury (which I do !), then you have a least two Wilburys on each song of that album !

Then, on the posthumous "King of hearts'' (1992), you have "I drove all night" and "Heartbreak radio", both featuring ONLY Roy and Jeff, as Jeff added all the musical backing on some already recorded Roy vocals and both songs would have been right at home on the Wulburys' "Vol. 3" !

because he wasn't on it...

On Dylan...I would take "Under The Red Sky" (the 1990 album) as example in stead of Oh Mercy...because "Oh Mercy" has no Wilbury on it...

Jeff's solo albums are different from the ELO albums...less cellos/violins and less over produced..sure still quite some sound on it but to me still really different.

You can hear bits of Armchair Theatre here...

I know, but some books and sites say that George played on it...

No other Wilbury on that Bob album = why I had not included it with those other Wilbury-related albums...a fine album though... *

* ''Political world" is the ONLY song that I have EVER printed + laminated the lyrics, to put it up on my wall... !

We live in a political world,
Love don't have any place.
We're living in times where men commit crimes
And crime don't have a face

We live in a political world,
Icicles hanging down,
Wedding bells ring and angels sing,
clouds cover up the ground.

We live in a political world,
Wisdom is thrown into jail,
It rots in a cell, is misguided as hell
Leaving no one to pick up a trail.

We live in a political world
Where mercy walks the plank,
Life is in mirrors, death disappears
Up the steps into the nearest bank.

We live in a political world
Where courage is a thing of the past
Houses are haunted, children are unwanted
The next day could be your last.

We live in a political world.
The one we can see and can feel
But there's no one to check, it's all a stacked deck,
We all know for sure that it's real.

We live in a political world
In the cities of lonesome fear,
Little by little you turn in the middle
But you're never why you're here.

We live in a political world
Under the microscope,
You can travel anywhere and hang yourself there
You always got more than enough rope.

We live in a political world
Turning and a'thrashing about,
As soon as you're awake, you're trained to take
What looks like the easy way out.

We live in a political world
Where peace is not welcome at all,
It's turned away from the door to wander some more
Or put up against the wall.

We live in apolitical world
Everything is hers or his,
Climb into the frame and shout God's name
But you're never sure what it is.

... that line about peace... nasty, but sooooooooooooo true !

And so well put !

I don't want to sound boring but can you name some of those sites? I am interested because I never read anything about George playing on the album. I know from reading that Bob did some sessions after the album, with George, with Tom, like for Under The Red Sky...however also, George stopped being anonymous or using other 'names' long before and why would he not be named on Oh Mercy..I wonder..his old time friend and he is even named on the released Bootleg series.

Oups... we forgot one...

"Into the Great Wide Open" (Tom Petty/1990)

While Under the red sky may have George I think Oh Mercy is a far superior album and many songs like Where Teardrops Fall and Shooting Star would have fitted well on Vol3.
Under The Red Sky is one of Bobs weaker sets for me.

So for the album we'd have these:
RO: You got It, A Love So Beautiful, California Blue
BD: Under The Red Sky (any more BD with Wilbury connections?)
TP: Into The Great Wide Open, Learning To Fly
GH: Cheer Down and a couple off of Cloud 9
JL: a couple from Armchair Theatre ( not familiar with it)
More thoughts?
