RARE pictures of John Lennon and Cilla Black are to go on show for the first time outside London.
In a one-off exhibition at The Lowry in Salford, Liverpool's music legends will be seen in all their guises, allowing visitors to get a glimpse the personalities behind their public faces.
Images of The Beatles never seen before and pictures of Cilla Black from her days as a singer in Liverpool's Cavern, will be shown in 'Rock', an exhibition of photographer Jane Bown's music portraits.
One of the highlights of the collection is an exceptionally rare 1967 portrait of Lennon and a host of shots taken of The Beatles from 1963 onwards.
The portraits will hang alongside pictures of rock music's biggest names including Cher, Tom Jones, Pete Townsend, Sting, David Bowie and Boy George.
A spokeswoman for The Lowry said: "It is very exciting for us to be able to show such amazing photographs. Some of the pictures have never been seen before."
The exhibition, which features pictures from 1963-2005, opens at The Lowry gallery in Manchester today and runs until September 18.
Jane Bown made a name for herself working for The Observer newspaper. U2 frontman Bono once said he would cancel an interview unless Jane did the photography.
