Ok, let's have it! Who/what is ticking you off today?

Oh boy, I have one today....
A parent who plans a FOUR HOUR birthday party for her kid in Central Park on a 90+ degree day with intense humidity, and who simply WILL NOT LET YOU OFF THE HOOK if you say you need to leave...
I swear, I want to absolutely kill the mother of my son's classmate Tyler -- four hours is entirely too long for a seven-year-old's birthday party on a GOOD day, but every time we tried to cut ourselves loose, instead of giving Jamie his goodie bag and letting us leave, she'd say, "oh, but we haven't done the pinata yet," or "oh, but you have to stay and sing Happy Birthday to Tyler," (in THREE LANGUAGES, yet!!), or "oh, but we haven't had the cake," knowing full well that a seven-year-old is NOT going to want to leave before the pinata, cake and goodie bag....so she basically held us hostage for Jamie's goodie bag! (And don't say we could have left anyway -- ever try to get a kid that age to leave a party without his prize? NOT fun...)
Next year we are conveniently going to be at Grandma's on the day of Tyler's party, I swear....

You are so right about that, honey! :bigeyes3: I kept hearing my dad's voice in my head going, "Cut yourself loose, Susan, cut yourself loose!" And the woman wouldn't LET us do that!!!!
I hate that groggy feeling after a long nap too -- hope you wake up!

Hey Lizzy, don't be too hard on yourself. The fact that you're reflecting on the decisions you've already made to help you make new ones means you're bound to start feeling better about your choices soon. And if it makes you feel any better, I've made some fairly poor decisions (ie: procrastinating my school work for an entire week) lately too. I have every confidence that you know how to choose the things that are right for you- so cheer up, sweetie! :wave1:

Depends on where you live -- in rural areas mailboxes are frequently out by the edge of the driveway along the road because the houses are set so far back. The mail carrier delivers in a car or a postal truck and it would take too long if he or she had to get out of the car and walk up to every door, particularly in farm country!
I grew up in the suburbs and my house had a mail slot in the door -- eventually. For a long time we had a metal box attached to the wall outside the door. And in our apartment building we have a bank of mailboxes in the lobby.

Hey guys, thanks for all your good thoughts - just want to give you an update.
My sister Christine was riding with her and saw the accident and went with her to the hospital for a few hours. My dad and I just went to go pick her up though, because it looks like Kim will still be several hours there, if not overnight, and there wasn't any point in her staying there in the waiting room while she has an exam tomorrow morning.
It looks like Kim will be okay, but her arm was smashed up pretty hard. While she was riding she actually fell off a few times, the first time she was winded but got back on. They were doing jumping, and with just a few minutes left of the lesson Kim's horse jumped, and then the girth (large belt that goes around the belly to hold the saddle on) snapped, and the horse went one way while Kim and the saddle went the other.
Christine said her arm looks pretty bad, and it looks like her elbow has two "points" instead of one because of the bone sticking out (ewww and ouch). So Kim is on "happy gas" and morphine right now, but when my sister was there she said the medication wasn't helping much and Kim was still in a lot of pain.
So it looks like the doctors will have to reset the elbow for her, and I'm not sure if her wrist was broken or sprained as well. I don't know if she would need surgery for that, or if the doctors can fix it up with a cast??
Whenever I hear more I'll let you all know, although at this point we'll probably just get an update tomorrow if she doesn't see the doctors for a while yet...
It's too bad that this is her right arm that got hit. That will make things pretty difficult. :( Not to mention I'm sure this accident will ruin many of her summer plans, and any more horseback riding for the next several weeks.

This is a MI in comparison to the ones others have shared. I am at the library and these girls making cat sounds are really annoying me. I wish they'd talk instead of making those damned irritating sounds.
Another MI - I can't stand groveling. There are few things that drive me up a tree to the extent toadying behavior does. I knew someone who would do ANYTHING, repeat, ANYTHING to be liked. That would include agreeing with the most off the wall things and kowtowing to acknowledged favorites. That got old fast and I found myself becoming increasingly impatient with the person because I didn't like this behavior.

I would give absolutely anything to switch our weather with yours - we've broken all previous records with all this rain we've been getting! I think we've had exactly two days of "nice" weather, and every other day for the past month and a half it's been cloudy and/or rainy!

Heard my neighbors screaming at each other tonight, really nasty stuff. They must have been SCREAMING because normally I don't hear anything from my neighbors (except the yappy little dog, who's been quite quiet lately) and these weren't even people in my building, they were people across the alley. OMG, I can't believe it. There's a kid in my class, Michael, and his stepfamily owns a company that makes concrete and bricks and such, and it's been going on since about 1946. Well, his stepdad (who graduated with my mom) and Michael's stepgrandpa got together with another company about 4 years ago and fixed the price of the stuff they sold, and cheated a lot of people. Well, today, either people found out or they confessed or something, but they're going to jail for 5 months. They've been fined $29.2 million for breaking antitrust stuff, and this is the biggest fine for a case of its kind in the US. It's just kinda disappointing, because this is a company that's based in my county, and we get a lot out of it. My cousin also works at one of them. It's going to be a hard time for Michael and his mom and their family. :(

My little girl is two and a half and she stopped her afternoon nap about 6 months ago when I moved her from a cot to a bed.
She eventually went to sleep at about 9pm last night and was awake at 5am!!!!! Which is unusual for her 'cos she normally sleeps 12 hours in the night, no matter what time she went to bed!!!!!
So now she's in a bad mood 'cos she's tired!!!!! But do you think she'll have a sleep?!?!

By the way, Kim did dislocate her elbow, and fractured her wrist. So her entire arm is all wrapped up in a cast for the next six weeks... but I admire her determination, she's already looking forward to to hopping back on her horse. It'll be a while before she can do that obviously, but she definately is a trooper. :smile1:

I'll let Kim explain it a bit better... but her instructor had told her that day that the cinch was starting to get worn out, and she'd have to start thinking of replacing it soon. I'm not sure what the horse was doing during the lesson, but she must've been stretching it a lot to make it suddenly snap like that! :thinker:

I am sick of women with large bags swinging into people and hurting them with those damn bags. Ever since I was little, I have known to give a large bag a wide berth because I get sick of people bumping them into you. I hate large bags.

NEVER DIS A FORD FALCON! :nono5:
The other night I was watching this cool show about classic cars. One segment was about Jayne Mansfield who died in 1967 in a 1966 Buick Electra. The narrator said that she [Jayne] wouldn't be seen driving, er, riding in a Ford Falcon. And why not?! The Falcon was a very cool car (the 1960-65 were the COOOOOLest ones). Sure, it was a modest, spiffy little Ford. Still, it was a well made, light little Ford and it was a Better Idea. That was a beautiful car!
Ain't nothing wrong with driving a Falcon or being lucky to ride in one. The 1966 Electra was a massive car that did not have a cool body style. The 1964 Electra on the other hand was very cool. Still, those Electras ain't got NOTHING on a Falcon!
These are JMHOs.

First of all--Alex Trebek. What an ass :angry9:
Second, I'm getting really tired of women nursing their babies in the middle of the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for breastfeeding! It's natural and healthier for the baby. Just do it in the bathroom. Maybe it's just me, but it seems very rude to whip your boobs out in public (for any reason), especially in a family-oriented restaurant where lots of young children are eating.
Excuse me babies are children too and would you eat your lunch in the bathroom then? I think its terrible that people think that breast feeding in public is rude, its a very narrrow minded attitude and breast feeding is a very natural thing to do, thats what boobs are for. I have fed both my kids in public places, and have always been discreet.
Sorry if I seem harsh but its a major issue of mine, and I also started a group a few years ago promoting breast feeding awareness and the right to feed in public so please don't take it personally.

I tend to agree on the breast feeding subject...as long as it is done discreetly.
I don't think it is polite to bare all in a public place....I mean the breast is for feeding...but there are other parts of the body that I wouldn't want people using in public even for what they are for ;)

I quite agree with you, Sally, most public restrooms do not have a "lounge" area where a woman can sit comfortably in a clean place and feed her baby. Nowadays I have seen "family lounges" in newer malls and shopping centers, which make it a lot more pleasant to breastfeed if need be, but I don't think that women should have to take their babies into a filthy, smelly restroom to feed them! Would YOU want to eat your lunch in the toilet???
Just the other week we were at a picnic with other families from my son's class, and one mom has a four month old baby. She was wearing a blouse with special flaps and a nursing bra, and she was able to nurse the baby right there sitting on the grass in front of the Columbia University Library. It was discreet, it was NOT a matter of "whipping out a tit," and it was JUST FINE...nowadays you can also get a lot of specialy designed nursing clothing that make things easier and a lot more discreet -- I used to get a catalogue from a company called Motherwear that specialized in such things. And barring that, a strategically placed baby blanket can do wonders...but I also think that nursing is a natural and wonderful thing, and as long as a woman is discreet, why should she be relegated to feeding her baby in the loo?

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my breastfeeding comment. I should've been more specific about what I found offensive (for the record, I have no problem with breastfeeding; hell, I was breastfed myself! I just think a little discretion is in order). What I was so mad about yesterday was that the woman didn't have a baby blanket or nursing bra or anything; she sat there with her shirt pulled up, bra on the table, and breast exposed loooong after her baby had finished nursing.
Again, I apologize for my poorly phrased rant and for offending anyone.

Yes, I know, that's what I'm hoping. This one's more a worry than an irritant. My daughter occaisionaly walks in her sleeps. This isn't usually a problem, but last night she managed to walk out the front door! We didn't hear anything until she realized (failrly quickly, I think) that she was outside and had pulled the door shut behind her. She knocked, but we didn't hear and she ended up walking around the house to the back porch (luckily that door was unlocked) and banged on another door until we heard her. This was at 2:30. I ended up holding her most of the rest of the night cuz I was scared it would happen again. Now we have to figure out what to do so she can't walk out without anyone hearing her!
