I'm sure this is a dumb question and it's probably been asked on here before. However I can't seem to find anyone discussing their experiences of meeting (or seeing) George in person. Has anyone on here ever been lucky enough to meet him? Was he nice? (I'm sure he was, that's a dumb question) Did he look as handsome in person? How tall did he look? What did he say? I'd like to hear other people's experiences with meeting him. Thanks :teeth1: :wave1: :eyebrows: :wink2:

There's a lady on the checkout in Sainsburys who met the fabs with a couple of her friends in the Beatles days I think, but I haven't actually met him myself. I'm sure he would've been a great experience though!

I sort of did...
Crescent street (Montréal), during the Formula 1 festivities (June of 1999 or 2000 ?).
George was on the street, as a few people (fans, reporters...) started to gather arround him...
Not expecting to see him there, I just froze, and when I saw that he was looking (vaguely) in my direction, I just nodded and smiled to him.
I don't know if he noticed me, or not (that I had saw HIM was what matterd to me at the time). I then went a bit further on, to look on from a distance, for a minute or two.
Knowing that he wasn't well, and even without that, I didn't want to bother him (besides, other people were already in the process of doing that !).
Anyhow, I wouldn't have known what to say to him anyways...

Lover,
If you saw him when he was a Fab Beatle, please share your story.

My mum's friend was an usherette in the theatre in Bournemouth where the Beatles played in 1963. She met all four of them and said George and John were the most friendly. Ringo was okay, but she didn't like Paul and thought he seemed very aloof!!! She was really glad she met George though as he was her favourite!!!!!

way far! I wish had more details, it was at a concert, they were miles away(so it seemed), but George was doing his little side step jig during the concert BB.

aweeee ABCKO, I admire your kindness in not wanting to bother George, I think you catching his eye and nodding was classy! I would hope that my reaction in that situation would have been that classy. :smile1:

I've heard other stories about meeting George, I just wanted to see if there were any others. I love hearing these stories :teeth1: !! In the first few days after George passed on there were people talking on the internet about him. One story stands out in my mind where a girl met him thanks to a generous friend. Her friend was working for VH1 at the time (1988 or 89) and was asked to do some sort of a project that George was involved with. I can't remember what it was, but the girl's friend was allowed to bring one guest to fly to N.Y. with her. So they flew to N.Y.C. and she did her thing she was asked to do. After two or three days, the friend was invited to the VH1 studios and George was there. She said he was so nice and smiled the whole time and shook her hand. There were a few other people there as well. After a little while, George had to leave, so he kissed her friend on the cheek :rolling1: and winked :wink2: and smiled at her and said goodbye. I don't remember the details because it was a while ago that I read it. I can't find it anymore on the internet, but I did read it on the net. I wish I had more details, but I remember the sweet part. :heart1: :teeth1: :blush4:

Thanks... but even without the health issue, George is quite a "private" person and has said that he did not like being in a crowd, and I would not have wanted to "intrude" on him.
At best, if he'd been more or less alone, ect... I might have said "Hello, nice to see you in Montréal..." and maybe "So, who do you think will win the race this year"... but other than that, no...
Oh wait, had this been in more recent times, I might have asked him is he had any interesting stories about... Roy Orbison ! LOL

ABC,
I agree that what you did showed class and tact. Had it had been me who saw him, I'd smile and politely look away. I would not have anything ready to say nor would I want to intrude on the man's privacy. After all, privacy is something that is near and dear to my heart.
Lover, I like that story about the Beatle concert where George did his sexy little stiff-legged dance. Check out Paperback Writer - there is an author there who started a thread wanting information from "First Generation Beatle Fans."
George was a very interesting man - no doubt many people here would have had a lot to talk to him about, such as Rob and Lorraine. No doubt they would have had some very interesting, intense conversations with George.

Well, a lot of you have more interesting stories than me. :wink1: I can relate to seeing him in my dreams a few times, though!
ABCKO, I like your story. That is really good of you, if you weren't sure what to say, to just smile and nod instead of going over and rambling and making a fool of yourself like I'd probably do. :laugh5:

The closest I've ever gotten to meeting him was when I was with a group of friends and one pointed and said "Hey, isn't that George Harrison?" I turned around and although it looked a little like him and was wearing coat and porkpie hat, it wasn't.

I meet George twice in 1998. the first time at the gates of Friar Park, he was very friendly, we were in tears, we couldn't believe that. Oliiva took our photographs with him, he was going to NYC and he promised to invite us for tea when he retuned to England. After a few days he phoned us to the hotel and invited us to tea at Friar Park. We were in London and Harry, his brother, took us to Friar Park. We were very happpy. We thoughy it's George, it is a long story, it was our dream come true.

What a lovely story, Joan, and thank you for sharing it. George was indeed a very special man and he clearly responded to something he sensed from you. How fortunate you were to have spent time with this very humble and very special man.

I was there with my sister, the first time we rang the bell Olivia came to the gates and when we said our names, Olivia completed them and said George knows you for the letters. We always used to write to him. When we were at Friar Park, he was very kind and humbly. He gave us lots of gifts. He made us feel as we were the stars. It was like one of our family. Joan

Joan,
When did you meet George? What a lovely story and experience. I have never had anything other than unflagging respect for Olivia and think she is a very gracious lady indeed.

well it seems our George did appreciate some of the admiration society, and apparently was very taken with you and your friends Joan, that's wonderful to read ! :cool1:

I may as well tell this story here...
A few days ago, I'd brought one of my George books in at work so that I could check some quotes for FPSHOT (I don't have a PC at home).
The next morning (I work nights), my manager noticed the book and she told me that one of her friends had met and spoken to George a few years ago...
It was during Formula One week in Montréal, on that occasion Guy Laliberté (creator of the "Cirque du soleil", and a friend of George's) always throws a big, wild, party...
At one of these, my manager's friend was part of a dance troupe who had performed at one point during the party. Later on, George spots her...
G: "Oh, you're one of those dancers that we saw earlier, right ?"
Her: "Yes..."
G: "Well... I have to say... I think that you're pretty courageous, being a dancer and all that..."
Her (sarcastically): "Oh, and YOU'RE not courageous, maybe ?"
G (laughs): "Me ? Hey... I'm an ex-beatle !" (laughs again)

George was a master of deadpan and quick one liners. He had a brilliant, deliciously acerbic wit and he could be counted on for a quick come back. That was just too funny, ABCKO! I could just see and hear George saying that.
