I cannot believe it!
I've just received a copy of Introducing the Beatles that I bid for on eBay. However, upon opening it, it transpired that it was a version one stereo column back cover! The disc was a counterfeit, so I put that to one side and focused on the cover. "Hmm." I thought, look original.
I looked all over it and it satisfied every authentication pointer listed.
Then I did the silly thing of looking up the price on the internet. Scrolled down to stereo version one covers, and fainted. Woke up a couple minutes later and reread the price. $7,000.
Couldn't be. Has to be a fake, so I went over all the points again. Satisfied them all.
"Have to get it verified by an expert." methinks, so I emailed Perry Cox, world expert of this kinda thing and I am expecting a reply soon.
And that's my true story.

Good luck , Harb. If it was worth that, would you keep it?
Also, I bought 2 versions of Intro The Beatles in 64 when I was a kid, so I know they are authentic, but where can I find out their value?

The best ItB link there is : http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/beatles/intro/intro.html
It has a price guide for both cover and disc, and every pointer for authenticating the album.

Well, I emailed Perry Cox, and received a reply. He says that because it doesn't have the flap at the top it's a fake, but I read somewhere that there was a plant that printed the covers without the flaps. More updates when I get them

Here's what I found -
All original covers we have seen have a 1/4" overlap of cardboard at the top and bottom of the inside cover. This check can only be made by viewing the inside of the cover at the top and at the bottom. On most fakes, these overlaps are either much larger than 1/4", or there is no flap at all. The California plant made a small quantity of original covers that have no flap at all, but they still have the glossy back cover slick as well as high quality printing.
I'll look for a second opinion.

Harb, how much did you pay for this record when you won it off eBay?

Harb, there's a guy here in the States named Bruce Spizer who wrote a book called "The Beatles On Vee Jay" that has a TON of info about how to authenticate stuff like that...I don't know his website off the top of my head, though I think if you do a search for "Bruce Spizer" you'll find something...a website, an e-mail, something. That might help you as well...
Good luck!

You want a second opinion, here's my opinion:
Don't take too much stock into these things. The majority of them are fakes. You have to realize that these people have had 30+ years to work on them to make them "look" authentic.

I'll have to look up that Vee Jay guy.
Bearkat, I know the majority are fakes. I can tell a fake from an original at ten paces, but if this is a fake, it's the most authentic looking fake I've ever seen. The only thing it doesn't have is the 1/4 inch flap at the top. Only the bottom and up the inside of the spine.

I'm looking for that Bruce person as I type.
Although Perry had concluded that it was a fake, I've shown it to two independant Beatle dealers who agree with me that it fulfills every point.
