View Full Version : Oops!

I was reading a website guestbook for a band I frequent yesterday and noticed that one of their less-informed fans was asking them to play "And Your Bird Can Sing" because it was "a great George song". Uh...no, sorry, not a George song!

Was wondering if there were any of you who've had similar "oops!" moments; either the wrong lead singer, the wrong album, the wrong lyrics, whatever...

My favorite is that my high school best friend often mis-heard lyrics...two of her best mess-ups were "I sat on a rug, biting my tie..." and "Move over once, move over twice...c'mon baby, don't be so precise!" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

In "Helter Skelter" I always used to think Paul said "Look out, my tears are coming" instead of "Look out, 'cause her she comes."

There's always the classic "A girl with colitus goes by" that came from the book "'Cuse me while I kiss this guy" and other misheard lyrics.

Could they have meant good George song in relation to his playing?

Nope, she specifically referred to him singing lead. Most of the fans of this band aren't really Beatles fans first, so they're frequently confused about stuff like this.

I'm sure I've had some but I can't think of them at this momment...the one that always comes to mind is my dad.(the wonderful guy who intoduced me to the Beatles.)
He was quite young and somehow he thought "PaperBack Writer" was saying something about getting a rice gun. Don't ask me...but whenever he needs a good laugh I loveingly remind him of that. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

One of my favorites that always makes me laugh is when I hear of someone who thought the french in Michelle was something like "someday monkey will play piano song". Is that not the funniest thing ever?? Oh, it is!

Hey, Bob Dylan thought they were singing "I get high, I get high, I get high!" (I can't hide...)

I've always heard it as "Some lame monkey won't play piano song." http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif Either way, it is funny.

Speaking about misheard lyrics...my boyfriend (he's a first generation Beatlemaniac and we met because of The Beatles) has a cousin that thought "Paperback Writer" was actually "take a back right turn". I think that's hilarious.

Funny you should mention this one -- I had never heard it before until the "Meet the Beat-Alls" episode of The Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network a couple of months ago. (If you missed that one, it was brilliant!) The whole episode was nothing but Beatles references, but when they got to that one both hubby and I were stumped...we had NO idea what they were talking about. I had to post the question to another one of my lists before someone explained it to me...and then it was one of those "d'oh!" moments...

Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny!

Go to www.kissthisguy.com (http://www.kissthisguy.com) to see all kinds of misheard lyrics. Go to "view by artist," then scroll down to the Beatles. Check out the poor guy who thought that the lyrics to "If I Fell" were "If I give my heart to you, I must be sure from the BERRY STALK" and it took him until he was 43 years old to figure out that it was wrong....Ooof!

I've mixed up tons of lyrics to many a song, but i have to say the oops moment I hate the most is when you, being the resident Beatle fanatic in the group, forget the lyrics to a song and one of your friends who just kinda likes them tells you what they are. It's only happened to me a few times and each time I felt quite stupid.

Speaking about the main topic, anyway, it has taken me a lot of time to convince my dad (a Beatles fan himself from the 60's era) that is actually Paul and not John, the one who screams singing to tunes like "I'm Down", "Long Tall Sally" or "The Hippy Hippy Shake" on the Live At The BBC CDs. He didn't know all the songs, so I figure out he took the image of John being the "screamy" one in the group (since he did listen to "Two Virgins" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif), and Paul being the "ballad" singer... I always say: "dad, Paul can also sing loud. Listen!!!".

I guess I finally have convinced him... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I originally thought I heard (in "When I Get Home") "I've got no time to trip behind the trees" instead of "I've got no time for trivialities." I assumed that the former was some British expression with which I wasn't familiar! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/blush3.gif
