the original vinyl or the CD? What kind of label? Does it have the word 'Subsidory' in the label rim text? Mono or stereo?

Abbey Road is truly a swan song masterpiece. the production is superb, and the performance and writing are as original in today's standards as they were when it was made.

Abbey Road is my favorite Beatle album. Though it's the last album they recorded, you can certainly say they saved their best for last.

I know. Hence the "j/k" at the end of the sentence. I'm glad they broke up when they did. But which do you think is better- their mediocre solo stuff or if they'd stayed together and had mediocre Beatles stuff?

If they stayed together, the music would not have been mediocre. It never was even during their trials with each other. they pushed and inspired each other. Maybe they would not hang out as much with each other but I've no doubt that the good music would have never stopped (to quote the Dead).

Their later personalities came to the fore with Abbey Road... Lennon's experimentation, Macca's Pop, George came of age and Ringo's endearing charm all came into a focus. It's just too bad that this light broke down like light through a prism.
There is not a lame song on the entire album! And you can't pick one song off it... It's the whole album! To pick one song would be like having to choose one Beatle.

All OFFICIALLY issued Abbey Roads are in stereo. The last Mono LP in the UK was Yellow Submarine and in the USA Magical Mystery Tour (which I have never seen a copy for under $45.00).
I know there are bootleg "mono" copies of AR and Let It be floating around.

Ah, but they weren't together for those.
What I was saying was that if they had stayed together the music would not have been mediocre. As solo artists, much of it was (mediocre, that is). With the exeption of All Things Must Pass, Plastic Ono Band,McCartney, and maybe Ram, which were pretty much 100%. And they were early solo efforts, you'll notice.

OH MY GOD http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/shocked.gif "Ram" is my absolutely favourite Paul's solo album. Wonderful and corny lyrics (yes, wonderful and corny), spectacular and intrincate musical arrangements with orchestral parts: the McCartney composer is working there, the McCartney singer is giving his best, with a little help from his wife, the McCartney instrumentist is playing some of his strongest solos, the songs have continuity and content... Even the artwork was innovative. I love "Ram". Sorry applenathy... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Going on with the topic, I think basically the same: "Abbey Road" is a symphonic masterpiece intended to be listened as a whole, but where you can perfectly separate the pieces and make excerpts of the most wonderful music ever recorded. My favorite one is "Here Comes The Sun". Apart from George's shining songwriting, the album itself contents some of the brightest moments of John as a rocker ("Come Together", "I Want You"), Paul as a hit-maker ("Oh Darling") and as a great composer (the final medley) and Ringo with his always funny and welcome light-weighted songs ("Octopus's Garden"). This is perfection. My favorite album is "Revolver", but I've come to think that's only because of sentimental reasons, since it was the first one I've ever bought myself. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Don't get me wrong, I love both, but I think "Abbey Road" is the greatest piece of music ever made...

Abbey Road to me is such a Masterpiece.
The way of producing,
the harmonies,
the most preferred side 2 of all albums I guess,
the fantastic guitar trio,
the (George) moog synthesizer which then was rather new and I believe even one of the first times used,
Because, which I still imagine was the inspiration for Queen's Is This A Real Life, Is this just Fantasy etc. (specially if you listen to the Anthology a-capella version)
And RAM is also my favorite album by Paul.

We agree on both of them. "Abbey Road" has so much things to put attention to. Yeah I almost forgot George's work in the Moog. It's quite interesting and well-prepared. This is straight music, prepared carefully by a band, and not four solo singers... And "Ram"... I think I've said it all about it.

You're not so bad yourself, chile horse.
George has spoken about the hundred times that Paul wanted to do another Maxwell Silver Hammer rehearsal. In the final version George does play a very interesting guitar part and made the song a little more than that boring original theme, bang-bang etc. It sounds much like his guitar part on Octopus' Garden by the way.

We're all Apple Scruffs.
darkhorse
Apr 14, 2001, 01:14 PM
Well personally I don't think "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is boring. I do think, however, that George's lead guitar part, joined by John's acoustic guitar in the chorus lead the song to its climax. I understand that George could have been tired of recording those kind of "silly" songs that were somehow Paul's trademark... But he was capable to write good, serious stuff, and this album shows it. Anyway, the differentiation between the styles of songwriting of the four Beatles is evidenced here: even when "Abbey Road" seems like a very good piece of cohesive and well-prepared music, it really showed that The Beatles were splitting up in order to develop their own styles...
And that's the great thing about it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Just checking through some of the older topics and found this one. What a great lp! My aunt bought it for me for Christmas, oh about 20 years ago. I listened to it (with the headphones on) that very night and hundreds of times since then. It's one of the albums I turn to when I'm depressed. It helps soooo much! There are just so many good songs on that album.
