I believe quite some here have read it yeah and over the years we have discussed a lot about it, since about 2001 - that's when I entered this nice place - we have been discussing for instance the stories about the songs.
No surprise the pictures have been part of our conversations..
If there is anything you want to know, just fire away..

Like the majority of the George fans here I'm sure, I've read it a couple times. I loved it not only for the subject matter (George, lol) but also for Derek Taylor's writing. I still maintain that man was a genius. He's one of the Beatle people I would have LOVED to meet almost as much as George.

George's dry humor and Derek Taylor's writing style make this a fun book
to read. I just wish the bio part was longer. I like George's stories about
his childhood in Liverpool, and some of the people he knew. On the other hand, Dark Horse was a skanky, uneven, biased book written by a
blood-sucking, tabloid-trash writer. And that's all I will say about it . :angry1:

Yes "Dark Horse" is very tabloidish. I don't have any respect for Giuliano. I do have the updated version of "I Me Mine" and I like it a lot. :thumbu1:

The old one also had a photo of George with Bob Dylan at his house, and one of George, Derek, and George's cat, taken around '79 or '80.

I really like the updated edition because Olivia's input makes it more special and effective.

I don't think I've ever seen the George & Derek & Cat picture. But that's because I only have the updated version. I've never seen the old version.

Well, not those two. It does, however, have the picture of him and Don Nix on the boat. Not that you notice Don Nix. :eyebrows:

I don't know why, but I'd never read I, ME, MINE. Well, I'm reading it now. I find myself chuckling at every turn. George was quite the story teller!

I always thought George would make a wonderful story teller. Say, Girl, why on earth would you never read his book? Good thing you changed your mind - George in his own words is a very interesting man.

It wasn't a conscious decision. I'm not sure I knew about the book, for one, and how that can be, I don't know, other than when it came out originally I was very busy being a new mother, and focused on all that, and of course John's death whilst I was pregnant. After John died, I withdrew from the Beatles. I could scarcely hear a song without becoming so depressed. John's death symbolized for me the end of my own youth, the end of all things possible. I couldn't stop crying for days and days, nor get out of bed, and there I was pregnant and mom saying "that's not good for your baby." For quite a few years I couldn't even play my Beatle records.
Then, when I did know about George's book, I never got 'round to buying it. I'm not sure how it all came down to me never owning or reading the book. My theory is that I was a Beatlemaniac in the 60's and early 70's. Then, I basically just listened to their music, collecting some things along the way, here and there, and the mourning stage, and more recently, I have been getting back into the "maniac" part of it.
:cross2:
A sidenote about John. Just before he was murdered, nearly the same week of it, I heard him on a radio program. He was all jacked up about his new album coming out, and of course Yoko was there, and I was driving along in my VW in Costa Mesa, thinking, "John sounds great! He's really going to have a comeback, he's done being at home." I was in such a good mood that day. I felt high as a kite listening to that interview, really excited to hear him sounding so JOHN.
Not to be depressing or anything, just waxing is all...:heart1:

I wonder if that's the same interview where he said something like, "My music won't stop until I'm dead and buried, and I hope that's a long way off. While there's life. there's hope." I don't know the exact quotations since I only heard excerpts, but apparently he said that just hours before he was shot. :cry3:
GeorgieGirl

It was on an L.A.radio show. I don't remember the particulars. But it wasn't hours before he was shot. The interview was during he morning hours as I drove around town. He was shot in the evening hours, unless it was east coast time we're talking about. I only remember it was close to the same time. I don't have a 'time line' on it, but someone must know these things. I just remember some parts of it clearly, others not so clearly... But I divert on a George Board.
I finished I, Me, Mine. There wasn't much to the book after all and was a quick read. I enjoy the history behind his songs,
