I was afraid some of this may have come out in a topic before, but I see it hasn't (if it has, please tell me and you can close the topic however http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif).
The Beatles' music was often accompanied with original artwork in the editions of their albums. What can one say about the innovative "Sgt.Pepper's" original packaging, or about the stunning black & white picture on "With The Beatles"?
Anyway, what are your favourite Beatles/solo Beatles album covers or the best art work presented in the packaging of an album?
Well, I've mentioned a few of mine, but I can add some more: I like the picture on "Beatles For Sale" (british CD) and on "With The Beatles", and the simplicity of the "Let It Be" cover http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
For solo work, I've always liked the covers on "McCartney", "Ram", "Off The Ground", "Live Peace In Toronto", "Ringo" and, of course, "Dark Horse" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
Any more opinions?

I do love both the US and UK covers for A Hard Day's Night. Other favourites are Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Meet/With the Beatles for group.
For solo:
Imagine 1971
Ringo
Band On The Run
George Harrison

I think the greatest album cover was the infamous Butcher cover which was taken by Robert Whittaker.

I think this is really evident when you look at the icons(or whatever it is you call those little record covers to the left) which artwork is the favorite. Besides "Meet the Beatles" I like stuff like "Sgt. Pepper" and "Dark Horse" and "Ringo". Forgive me, but I really think that the cover of "1" is just plain ugly and totally un-Beatlelike. Anybody agree?

My favorite album cover art would include:
Meet The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's LHCB and Abbey Road.
For solo works:
John - Imagine, Walls And Bridges and Rock N Roll
Paul - Band On The Run and Paul Is Live
George - All Things Must Pass and Somewhere In England
Ringo - Ringo and Blast From Your Past

That's true. Capitol/Apple could've made the cover a great representation of The Beatles as a chart-topping band, but they just put a 1 on there. Kinda reminds me of all the uproar over the "Rock N Roll Music" cover in 1976. None of the Beatles liked that one and I don't either.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

Sorry, I don't. I think it's a pretty attractive and original cover. Really. Besides, that red, brilliant cover was intended for attract people and make them buy the record, wasn't it? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif
Back to the point, yeah. I almost forgot about "Abbey Road" and the "butcher" cover. To people like Harbidge, they represent a lot, I'm sure http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif For everyone of us, they are pretty good album covers too.
"George Harrison", Ringo's "VH1 Storytellers", "Paul Is Live", "Mind Games" and "Press To Play" also have beautiful covers.

I must say, I've always liked the Anthology covers too with their montage theme.

Sorry I must disagree! Not that you don't have a right to that opinion, but it certainly got my attention....and it's modern wich the Beatles really are. Plus I've carried it around in my car so much that just seeing it makes me smile http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
My favorite album is SGT Pepper and seeing that it has such artistic signifigance...spelled right?... I must say it is my favorite cover!!!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

NO, I think it's great! the 4 pictures on the inside would make a good cover too, I sometimes turn the CD booklet back to front, it looks cool (honest) I also like Band on the run, the butcher cover, with the beatles, rubber soul, the BEATLES and a few more

All right, ALL RIGHT! I retract my statement in the face of overwhelming public opinion. In reality, its not really Beatle-like, but it was designed to attract the eyes of potential buyers, and it did that. It's not nearly as bad as "Wings At the Speed of Sound"(sorry Paul).

I love the white album cover, the lack of anything on the cover but their name is such a great way to say that the album was about the music, they didn't even bother to put themselves on the cover.
I love Abbey Road too. I'm planning on framing my parents Abbey road record. To me it really is a picture that just symbolizes the Beatles. You see it and go ' Oh that's the Beatles' there is no mistaking it. Even if you don't recognize the men on the front. I also like that it lacks a title on the front.

Are we disagree-ing again? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I was going to mention that as one of my favorite covers, because of its originality...
Litl Lennon, I love the cover of "Revolver" too. The mixture of pictures and drawings is amazing. But what surprises me most is what is inside the album (when you hear it. I'm sure you agree with me http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif)

darkhorse,
You;re right on the sounds in Revolver-the second best record ever made (after Pet Sounds).
Also,Meet/With the Beatles is a very striking cover.

Check this out. Unlike most of you, I'm gonna give the source first (http://www.getback.org/breflib/coverart.html) and then say that I copied and pasted this list here. I think it's a very funny look at The Beatles' covers, giving them certain awards:
for its photography: With The Beatles
for its promotional bang-for-the-buck: Capitol's The Beatles' Second Album
for its high anticipation: Capitol's Something New
for its whimsy: Capitol's Beatles '65
for its promotional understatement: Capitol's Beatles VI
for its best recreation of the spirit of a movie: Capitol's Help!
for its philosophic undertones: Rubber Soul
for its sheer creative genius: Sgt. Pepper
for its metaphysical undertones: Revolver
for its truth in advertising: Capitol's The Early Beatles
for its lack of truth-in-advertising: Capitol's "butcher cover'" Yesterday... And Today
for its "on second thought..." approach: Capitol's Yesterday... And Today
for its take-off on film sprockets: A Hard Day's Night
for its trojan-horse innocence: Please Please Me
for its something-to-look-at-with-every-turn: Beatles For Sale
for its utter misdirection: Rock 'n' Roll Music
for its guaranteeing "Paul is dead" clues for the next 500 years: Abbey Road
for its going 360 degrees in the other direction: The Beatles (White Album)
for its "they have blue, so we'll have red" approach: UA's A Hard Day's Night
for its ignorance on semaphore signals: Help!
for its "well, it's sort of psychedelic, isn't it?" approach: Magical Mystery Tour
for its bold attempt to be artistic in America: Vee-Jay's Introducing The Beatles
for its lack of creativity: Parlophone's Rarities
for its "hey, at least it's better than Parlophone's" approach: Capitol's Rarities
for it's best use of a horrible photograph: Love Songs
for it's nice use of type: 20 Greatest Hits
for it's "what do you mean they don't look like the Beatles" approach: Reel Music
for its censorship: Capitol's Yellow Submarine
for its "we desparately need a long vacation" approach: Let It Be
for its high reminiscence and "Pete who?" approach: Anthology
for its perfect mod look: Parlophone's A Collection of Oldies... But Goldies
for its period recreation look: Live At The BBC!
for its best use of an idea that didn't happen: The Beatles 1962-1966, 1967-1970
