View Full Version : OOOOOh! I like that part!

Hey I was jamming along in my car the other day to the New CD "1". And I started thinking about all my favorite parts in some songs! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Like I love the part at the end of "All You Need is Love" Where you hear"She loves you yeah yeah yeah", real soft. I don't know why but I love that part. And I love the part at the beginning of "Lady Madonna" when it starts out soft and breaks in....I always try to get that just right on my steering wheel. (Anyone know what part I'm talking about?)
Oh and the clapping in 8 Days a week I'm proud of my precision. Clap...clap, clap...clap....clap,clap.
I know I'm crazy....But I've found most of you are too!
SO.....Tell Me! What are your favorite parts of certain songs? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I love the beginning part of Mean Mister Mustard.....John's voice is so sexy sounding!
I also love the part in Paul's Band On The Run, when he sings the part "Well the night was falling as the desert world began to settle down"..... When he says the word "settle", it's so Englishy sounding. I'm sure you people who have that sort of accent will have no idea what I'm talking about! There are a ton more that I can think of, but I'll give it a rest for now! Great topic, Eleanor!
I really love the use of the sitar on Love You To... especially the part right where it gets into the beat... gets me going every time!

The piano solo on "In My Life" must be one of the greatest moments in the history of popular music. I also like Paul's guitar solo on "Taxman" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, I LOVE it when John sings that there!
I like it whenever John 'n Paul ("the apostles? No, the Beatles"....sorry, quote from that one movie, couldn't resist) trade off on lyrics. For example, in Anytime At All where John sings "Anytime at all" and Paul follows for the high notes "anytime at all!", then John again "anytime at all", etc.

There are various which directly come to mind;
- George Martin's piano solo in In My Life
- the jazzy part of You Know My Name
- the guitar solo's in The End
- George guitar intro on Octopus'Garden
- the non-spanish in Sun King
- the trumpet in Penny Lane
- the intro of Sexy Sadie
- the up-tempo change in Yer Blues in the end
- the part before 'sitting in an english garden'
- the horn in For No One
- George's guitar in Honey Don't

I love the very tail end of "PolythenePam" into "She came in through the bathroom window".
I also love the beginning of the percussion in "Love you to" and the hand claps in "Here comes the sun" and Pauls outro singing in "Got to get you into my life". I could go on practically forever but I won't.
Oh yeah one more the bass riffs in "Day Tripper". Ok yet another one and then I'm done the drum solo in "The End".

ooh! Good topic! I really love the intro of "Day Tripper". What do you think of John's voice during "Please, Please Me"? Y'know the part near the end, the way he sings, "C,mon" with that rough edge to his voice - very sexy.

I'm not sure if this is legal, but I really like the "Anthology" version of "Strawberry Fields Forever"(the middle one with the Mellotron). The whole song is, I think, beautifully done and especially the fade out sends a chill up my spine when I hear it.

Hey Eleanor, I pretty much came to the same conclusion after joining this Forum. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
Your topic got me thinking (it is a great topic, by the way), and I think, like jami, that there are tons of parts of songs that I really really like. Yesterday I said the first two that came to mind, but now I can say the one I like best: that part on "Rain" (my favourite song, if you don't know it by now http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif) when the guitars stop and Ringo does a little drum solo, always joined by a synchronized bass guitar played by Paul. I always say "Ooooooh I love that part!!!!!"
I also love the "better, better, better, better, aahhhhhh!!!!!" part on "Hey Jude" (I often say to my friends when I'm listening to it with them: "please listen to that!" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif) and the "ah…. ah…. ah…. ah…." sequence on "Twist And Shout"
If I can think of some more, I surely will post them.

I share so many fav moments with you all! Some others that come to mind are the last verse in "Eleanor Rigby"....particularly the way Paul sings the word "grave"....there are heaps of parts in "Hello Goodbye" that also rock my world and that wonderful crescendo in "Because", that bit in "She's a Woman" where the guitar doesn't play on the off-beat like it does in the rest of the song....there are just far too many parts in each song for me to name!!!
The beautiful electronic whine that leads into the opening of I Feel Fine. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

OOOOOH, yeah! I love that little mistake! Good one!
Not really a mistake, more so an accident... John's guitar was leaning against an amplifier after a take and they liked the feedback sound they got so they decided to use it - I'm sure that's what you meant though. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I love the song "I'm So Tired" more than anything, but the most magical moment in all of their songs for me is in "And Your Bird Can Sing" when they sing "Tell me that you've heard every sound there is." The harmony there is pretty much the best one you'll ever hear....ever.

More things to add to my "Oooooooooh I like that part!!!" list:
~the tempo change on "We Can Work It Out"
~John's backing vocal on "I'll Follow The Sun"
~George's "crying" on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
~George's solo on "Day Tripper" (not the riff)
~Ringo's slightly hidden drum solo on "Hello Goodbye"
~Ringo's out-of-key vocal at the end of "Yellow Submarine"
~the very beginning of "You Won't See Me" (before Paul starts to sing)
~the amazing Paul's bass line while George is singing "if I grow up I'll be a singer" on "Old Brown Shoe" (he seems to be playing the four strings at the same time!)
~the whole out-of-key orchestra on "Only A Northern Song"
~the high three-part harmony ending of "Nowhere Man" ("…making all his nowhere plans for NOBODY")
~Paul saying "yeah!" at the end of "Twist And Shout"
~Paul singing "I've got a feeling" and John singing "everybody had a hard year" at the same time ("I've Got A Feeling")
~George saying "go, Johnny, go" on "For You Blue"

On a tangent that song is great to karoake to, if you play it up like James Brown with the soulful walking round the stage and if you drop to your knees during the "broke down and died" part you can get people cheering, hootin', and hollerin' for you. Hand claps...the ones in "Here Comes The Sun". Ohhh yeah. Love them.
Also that fantastic line in "Something"..."and all I have to do is think of her" is another great moment I can think of....perhaps I've already mentioned that one?? I can't remember.
"Everybody's laughing, everybody's happy"....that bit in "Sun King" is lovely. John does that sexy thing with his voice. Hmmmmm.
I also totally love the way that Paul phrases "...sing a lazy song beneath the sun..." (in reference to the swaying daisies) in "Mother Nature's Son"....the way he goes up on the second syallable of "beneath".....do you know what I mean??????? I hope so. I love that.

-the begining of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)
-In that song on anthology 1 (disc one) where it's all spanish sounding and paul goes something like "...one chick for me" in a spanish accent thingy.
-the backing volcals on I'm Only Sleeping
-the bass in rain
there are tons more, but they don't come to mind at the moment

This is a great topic!
Personally, I think that the whole song "Here, there and Everywhere" is absolutely filled with "catchy" parts. I just love that song to death!! Why is it so underrated? I think it's one of the most romantic songs the Beatles have ever recorded.
darkhorse
Apr 14, 2001, 06:04 PM
In an interview with David Frost, Paul said it was probably his favorite song... I don't think it's underrated...
Anyway, for Paul's solo tracks, let's return to the "Ooohhh I love that part!" list:
~the change from "Uncle Albert" to "Admiral Halsey"
~guitar solos on "Too Many People"
~vocal ending to "Dear Boy"
~the change from "Admiral Halsey" to "Smile Away"
~the ukelele on "Ram On"
~the scat singing on "Heart Of The Country"
(wouldn't you be able to tell what's my favorite Paul solo album?)
~the electric guitars coming in on "Tug Of War"
~the end of "Hi, Hi, Hi"
~the intro to "C Moon" (was that the intro...?)
~David Gilmour's solo on "No More Lonely Nights"
~Linda's vocal on "I Am Your Singer"
~the catchy chorus "keep on... sleeping in a big barn bed" in the song of the same name
~the end of the medley on "Red Rose Speedway", with four different guitar solos playing at the same time
~the whole "Cuff Link" from "London Town"
And that's pretty much all I have to say. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

BTW, a couple of things I like on Paul's solo songs are the three-part harmony on the chorus of "Silly Love Songs" and the part in "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" where they sing the part "hands across the water, water." They make it sound like they're under the water. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cool2.gif

Yes, you can. Just click the link, "Edit Profile", and enter your username and password. You'll be taken to your profile page. There you can edit your icon, address, URL, signature or anything.
For a new icon, just hit the drop down window to view the choices and make a selection. Your new icon show show up with your next post. BTW, I'll be changing mine next week. I'm picking a different one each month. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I fixed it for you, hellogoodbye. Just remember NOT to click the first box in Options. If you want your smilies to show, leave that box unchecked.
(It also helps to keep a separate window open that has the Smilies Codes. That way you can go there and make sure you got the code correct.

Can I go on with the topic? I've been listening to whole lots of Beatle music to accompany my studies last week and noticed these little things:
~Paul's bass on "Taxman" while singing "if you drive a car-car" (How could he do a thing like that???!!!)
~I don't know what does John pretend to do with the tambourine on "And Your Bird Can Sing", but it surely works...
~The seagull sounds on "Tomorrow Never Knows"
~Ringo's drumming on "It's All Too Much" (he seems to be losing the rhythm, but he never does!!!)
~The way George joins the lead vocal in the chorus of "Drive My Car" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/rocknroll.gif

Too many to think about, the one's that come to mind now...
- Eleanor Rigby: the cello, on the last verse
- Tommorow never knows: the sitar at the intro & Paul's "laughing"
- And you bird can sing: John's voice, towards the end, "You don't get me" (especially the "me").
- Hey Bulldog: the piano during the verses, the slight echo on the snare drum (you can talk to me...) & George's guitar fills towards the end.
- Blue Jay Way: George's voice
- Old brown shoe: the intro and George's yeh-yeh-yeh towards the end !
So many more, so little time and space...

It's hard to pick one, but if I had to pick something quick, I have to say I absolutely LOVE the "yeah, yeah, yeah" chorus on "She Loves You." I REALLY LOVE the oooh part as well. Heck, I just plain love the song.
The parts that REALLY MAKE me feel fine is the "ooh" after "and you know you should be glad --oooh" then the chorus. I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! It makes me feel fine 100% of the time.
"Things We Said Today" is another feel good song. I LOVE the lyrics, the melody and the chorus. Every time I hear the chorus, I marvel at how WONDERFUL it makes me feel. (It was one of the first songs I learned how to play by ear. I taught myself this one).
The same could be said for "Please Please Me." I REALLY LOVE that song!
Heck, how can you just pick a few? This is just for starters.

I hate to be a dissenter with other "Meet/With the Beatles" Survivor lists, but I just LOVE "This Boy!" I just LOVE that beautiful strumming and the way the Beatles sing towards the end, "this boy." That is such a treat for the ears.
On "Things We Said Today," I JUST LOVE that "these days such a kind girl seems so hard to find." That is one of my favorites.
"Can't Buy Me Love," I JUST LOVE the "Say you don't need no diamond rings and I'll be satisfied. Tell me that you want the kind of things that money just can't buy." I JUST LOVE THAT!
"I've Got a Feeling" is a DELIGHTFUL Lennon and McCartney collaboration. I JUST LOVE that "Oh please believe me, I'd hate to miss that train, oh yeah." I like the "oh no" sequence and I REALLY LOVE John's part at the end. Heck, I just plain love the song!
On "When I Get Home," I JUST LOVE that "Come on, let me through. I've got so many things I've got to do. I've got no business being here with you THIS WA-AAY. Whoa-oh!" and then the last part,"When I get home, YEAH! I've got a whole lot of things to tell her when I get home!"

Aaah, I've got some cool music on right now. On "And Your Bird Can Sing," I JUST LOVE that "and your bird is green."
"I Want to Tell You" is one of my favorites. I JUST LOVE "but if I seem to act unkind/it's only me, it's not my mind. That is confusing things."
Aaaah, I just love that!
If you drive a car I'll tax the street
If you try to sit I'll tax your seat.

If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Rain, the "Shi-i-ine, the weather's fine" part.
The "when I was a boy everything was right" part in "She Said, She Said."
"Dr. Robert, you're a new and better man/he helps you to understand/he does everything he can, Dr. Robert." And the harmonizing! I JUST LOVE THAT!

Last night as I was listening to The White Album on my walkman I discovered something that I had to replay over and over because it just sounded so good!! I don't know if this has been discussed before or what but in "Savoy Truffle" right before the second verse starts, you can hear George whisper "cool cherry cream" just before he starts singing it!!!! How darling is that?!!!! It is really soft so get out your headphones and crank up the volume if you want to hear it!!
Sorry if this is old news and I am just re-hashing someone else's discovery - you must understand, I was excited!!!

1. Absolutely love the lead solo that George
takes in the intro. of "Sgt.Pepper"! (I say
it's easily as strong a lead as anything
Clapton's done and almost sounds like a horn
I say!)
2. The bridge in "Michelle"--(gets their point across about that thang called l-o-v-e,
and makes for a beautiful descending chord
pattern in its closing..)
3. The organ sound in "Hello Goodbye"--(it
goes to show that the simpler sometimes can
indeed be the better-- great sustain sound!)
4. The incredible harmonies on "Because"--(I
remember hearing a rare tape of this without
the rest of the instruments for example, and
there you can also tell how amazingly well
written those harmonies were; a tear jerker
every time I say!)
5. Paul's RICKENBACKER BASS sound and approach on "Baby You're a Rich Man"!!--(dig
those slides!..)
6. Ringo's "baw-bumm"!! sound with the tympani drums on "Every Little Thing"--(Perhaps a 1st sign of "Progressive rock"
to later arrive?...)
7. George's intro. sitar sounds on "Within
You Without You"--(the "quintessential"
spiritual, Krishna begun George...) in fact,
I have it on my stereo right now! (Oh, and
you can't forget about the wacky laughter at
the end!!)

one of the best threads I've been through here!
- the way Paul emphasizes 'and don't know you know' in Hey Jude. He roughens up his voice a bit and the effect is perfect.
That little drum bit after the line 'that is confusing things' in I Want To Tell You.
I always have to tap along to that one.
That little effect at the end of Oh Darling. What instruement is that anyway? In any case, it's just perfrect like only the Beatles could do.

The little piano line in Ob La Di under the lyric, "Desmond lets the children lend a hand" is magic.

On Sgt Peppers the band tuning up intro...the way Paul says/sings the word 'book' in Lovely Rita...what sounds like a rooster crowing as Good Morning, Good Morning segues into Sgt Peppers Reprise...the alarm clock and 'ahhhs' in the middle of Day in the Life...the weird sound at the end of the album, the high freqency sound only dogs can hear that john put in.

On my brother's iPod,(I don't care for A Day in The Life) you could hear that high- whistle sound!

I like during the end of the first verse going into the second on I've Just Seen A Face, that little lick I assume George does to push back into the verse. Sounds like a hammer on more than anything.

I like the "welcome to slagger's" part in you know my name. The harmony at the very end of Wait and in the middle of Baby's in Black that starts with "oh how long will it take..." Also, I like the funny voice that Paul??? makes in the last verse of Yellow Submarine that echos Ringo's lines. The comments at the end of this article are similar to this thread.

John's scream on "Twist & Shout." I LOVE that Lennon!
George's intense playing on "Here Comes the Sun" and when he says, "Sun, sun, sun, here it comes." I just LOVE that!
And in "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You," the part "if somebody tries to take my place" and the instrumental twang in "Ticket to Ride." I just LOVE that! And the shouted "Hey" in "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." Who could forget the soft, whispery instrumental part in "Michelle?" Aaaah, I just LOVE that!
