As those who are following my posts on Abby Road, I am trying to organize my Beatle clippings over 30 years worth. These are from George and Patti's car accident (quite bloodly)... I can post the articles if you give me time to transcribe them... This is 1966, so I would assume these are from the California Long Beach Press Telegram.

Ouch!!! I once saw that picture of George somewhere. Although it looks very bloody, they said he wasn't badly injured. However head wounds do bleed a lot and I believe he had a cut scalp. That would be nice if you could transcribe them, thanks.

I cannot imagine why anyone would want to look at this. Terrible. I was afraid reading the post title that Olivia had been harmed, and it was recent. I just see no point in posting such sad, old pictures?
To each their own....

GeorgieGirl, I did not ask you to remove this picture.
Only, when I saw the post, I was 1. terribly concerned for Olivia, thinking it was recent... and then 2. very sad to have to see those pictures...again.
I personally would like to see happy, smiling pictures of George and never ever have this image cross my mind or eyes ever again... but that is only my opinion.
I remember when I first saw this picture, where George is actually bleeding....long long long ago... mid 70's. I cried for days. And what horrid photographer stood there taking pictures? It was hard to get the horrific image from my mind.
If others find it "newsworthy", it is their thing... I just don't understand it at all.

Mission Viejo? Yes I've been there many times, it's a very nice area. I have neighbors down the street from me who are from Liverpool. Well the mom and dad are from there, they're like my 2nd set of parents. My family is very close with them. Well the mother & father grew up in Liverpool and knew the Beatles before they were famous. They played at their church youth group dances before they went to Hamburg. They said that they were "Nice, normal lads." In fact Mrs Martin (the mother) used to have her hair done by Maureen Cox Starkey, before she married Ringo. The Martins eventually moved to the U.S. in 1973 and have lived here ever since then.

Sometimes I wonder if it is known that in the many things George did in his life he also was a musician....
I also am very much NOT fond of seeing those pictures again, nor reading articles about it... so please........ let's not make this a written version of Crime Scene Investigation..since there are more here who have that feeling, which I know because this sad sad accident and these horrible pictures have been discussed here before.

maybe the smilies were posted to make the topic starter feel a little support about the first article they posted(since some were offended and stated so about this first article, and that topic starter was kind enough to change the pic to a link and re-word the title, and explain her reasoning for the article posting), they stated elsewhere in the forums they were going to start sharing old new articles on George that were collected by them over the years. I think it's very generous of them to offer to re-type and post their collected articles for all of us to read., perhaps not the happiest incident in George's life, however still part of his past.

Well, I'm gonna put my two penn'orth in and say that I don't have any problem with this thread. If you want to make a good, definitive record of newspaper articles, you have to include the good with the bad. I for one though, didn't actually know about the car accident, so I had to do a double take when I read the title of this thread! Everyone's entitled to their opinions though, and it probably was the right thing to make a link to the pictures rather than just being presented with them straight off. I didn't personally find them "offensive" but I can understand how some people would.

Revolver is one of my favorite albums and there are three, repeat, as we all know THREE Harrison masterpieces on that one. FPSHOT, I love what you said about "I Want to Tell You." That is truly, IMHO the best song on Revolver. It is deep and intense and the lyrics are nonpareil.
Hari's Chick, that lyric from "I Want to Tell You" is so a propos...it's only me, it's not my mind. In George's book, he said he'd invert that lyric, but I think the original stands strong and accurate. "it's not my mind" can be interpreted to mean "that's not what I think - I could have said and/or done something I regret, but that was not my intention nor my thought." See, what makes that song so wonderful (in addition to how good it sounds) is the high caliber lyrics. George was an interesting, adaptable man and that comes through in his music.
Yeah, that part about losing one's mind was funny...I just LOVE that droll, Harrison wit. The man could be a right panic. :laugh4: Lorraine, thanks for thinking of me whenever you hear this beautiful song. It is my favorite - I admit it. :smile1: I think it is the strongest song on Revolver.

What I've decided to do is compile all of my clippings into a book, since I have so many (30 years worth) and something bought is appreciated more than given away. I'm already talking to publishers. I made the mistake of thinking that sharing some of my collection (here) would be of value to Beatle fans at Beatlelinks. My conclusion is that it isn't appreciated for the amount of work it takes, not only to transcribe but to preserve this history. To have banter about my values is insulting and disconcerting coming from moderators.
I'd like to present these works to people who want the history reported visa via the many newspaper articles that were written about the Beatles, and the perspectives of the time as a historical base.
So, when all thirty years are transcribed, and the pictures scanned properly, that book will become available to those interested.
For those who want to read the articles, I'll link them for you later this week. Then, that'll be the end of it and any other sharing of my collection here at Beatlelinks.

GeorgieGirl,
I think it is quite thoughtful of you to offer to post old articles, and to transcribe them. Nothing was said about that?
I think you and I settled the matter quite nicely in our early posts. The photo was removed and linked instead, which seemed like an agreeable compromise. You stated you like "the good, the bad, and the ugly" and I stated I cannot understand wanting to see the bad or ugly parts. I find them sad. The world is so full of sadness, I see no point reliving old sorrows.
Yogananda once spoke to a woman who recounted many times a sad event of her life. She could not get past it. He asked once how long ago this event happened and she replied... something like 20 years ago... and Guruji responded, "So, for twenty years you have relived that one bad day... you did not live it only once, but countless times!" That jives with me.
You see George from a historical point of view. I see him (say, in that photo) as a person (not a celebrity) who was in pain, hurt, who knows how badly... and like Princess Diana they were snapping photos of him. When I see the photo I see that side... that total lack of compassion in human nature... from the photographer... and I find it sad beyond words.
So, we disagree? We see things differently? That's life. It does not make you bad for posting the picture/article. It does not make me bad for finding the whole thing terrible and sad.
It would be great to have articles posted... and yes, generous of you to post them. If your collection is exhaustive, then by nature some will be crap (the Enquieror level ones) and some will be illuminating. I hope if someone does not like the article you can not take it personally.
If I said something in my posts to you (there were four) which offended you (I have also offended you in the past, I recall).... then you have my public apology. Feel free to PM me outlining why that is and I will try to avoid upsetting you in the future. Crackerbox Palace should be a fun and friendly place, and just because you and I disagree or are extremely different people does not mean we can not both enjoy the same forum. I honestly want you to enjoy the forum!
It was never YOU I disliked, it is anything sensational in nature, like this article. I personally think sensationalism leads to a societal lack of compassion (ie Princess Di). Taking a photo of a hurt George? Would I take out my camera if I saw an accident by the roadside so I could document the blood? no no no no.... Celebrities get treated like they are not even human.
Hope this explains and no hard feelings on my part.
GeorgieGirl
Jun 06, 2005, 10:48 PM
And I felt offended because of the "value" comment, but you explained it all, and maybe I am lead footed with my responses. I REALLY didn't mean to upset anyone either. I'm very into history, the good and the bad, as I said. No harm no foul... hugs and peace. Night.
The next morning... I couldn't get my links to work where I posted the articles. I was out late last night shopping for living room furniture. By the time I got home, I wasn't able to make heads or tales of my computer file sharing problem. So, I could do one of two things. I could put two of the articles I'd transcribed late last night onto my Blog, but if anyone comes by here later, they'd have to scroll through my other ramblings, so I am going to just paste them here if that's okay so we can offically move on :rolling1:... These are undated but as I said in the earlier link, I believe it is 1966. There are three more but these two give enough details. If anyone knows the exact date, that would help. Also, I hope you like the images I also put here of an article about All Things Must Pass when it first came out. The pictures were in my clippings as well... I just added the background image of the music sheet. It's one of my favorites.

Beatle George, Wife Hurt in Blackout Crash
London (UPI) – Former Beatle George Harrison and his wife suffered multiple injuries Monday night when their car skidded out of control and crashed on a highway west of Lodon police said today.
They said Harrison, 29, was treated for cuts and bruises. Several stitches were taken in his head. His wife, Patti, suffered a “bad concussion,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said the crash occurred during a power blackout as the Harrison’s drove along M4 motorway near Maidenhead, about 20 miles west of London.
“The car apparently skidded out of control approaching a roundabout (traffic circle) which was opened just a few weeks ago” he said. “They hit the center barrier.”
The area is normally brightly lit. Because of the power cut it was in darkness, police said.
The car, a Mercedes, was heavily damaged, police said.

You guys will have to scroll up to my last post last night for two of the articles. Sorry... ;-)
It was too late for me to comment much on everything that came down on this link other than to say everything was fine. But I'd like to add one more thing if that's okay?
I made the mistake of not including the articles at the same time, but this was "just not thinking it out." What happened was I'd finished four articles on Paul quitting the Beatles and posted them back in Abby Road, and I'd taken a quick camera shot of those articles to share. What then happened was I shot that picture of the scrapbook page of George's accident because a long time ago someone asked me for it, so I figured, I'd just post that and then come back with the articles. So I put that up alone, and I think that without the articles to accompany them they were too crass. So...cut to the chase, it came off shocking without relevance. But the reactions surprised me after seeing John naked here, I figured anything would fly, and why was this so offensive? Then as the day progressed, I started to shrink down to a worm and feel bad.:nono1: THEN, I'm like why am I feeling bad? So then I got a little mad...:scream2:
THEN, I thought we're passonate, some of us writers and artists. Besides without conflict there's never growth. Laws of nature.
I really enjoy this board, and sharing. It's hard to find people to talk to the Beatles about. Most people I know just are not interested. I don't mind good debates, but I hope we don't personalize our debates. I have good values and I got defensive about that word being used in conjunction with that post--it jumped out at me--I've been married 33 years, worked as a business manager in medical offices for years (still doing that!), put my daughter through four years of college, have published books, taught writing, saved a whale (just kidding)... Anyways, I'm a good person. :angel4:
I can't say why that word jumped out, maybe because these past few years have been hard for me. Lots of death... My very best, long, longtime friend just passed in January, last August two of my friends (mother and daughter) passed away in a tragic accident, and well, I'm maybe more touchy these days.
PS. I know everything Yogananda said. I was a member of SRF for 30 years.
Peace out!

Hey, It would be great if you want to share some inspirational things on Yogananda here, say thoughts for the day, or separate posts or something? We can stay away from any "bad/debate oriented" comments out of respect for the Harrison family. But exploring the essence of love Yogananda speaks of? Please, please feel free. Yogananda wrote so many volumes of material, as with Prabhupad, that it is hard for me to remember them all. I remember bits and pieces, and reread, but my knowledge is in no way exhaustive.
I'm sorry you were upset with the word Value...it was lifted from George's song, and that was to be lighthearted, in fact. Remember George's interview where he recounts the Mercedes 450? "How come he got a motorcar?" lol... Those were George's friends so he wasn't slamming them, you know? He was observing differences...?
Sorry you have had a bad couple of years. I know the feeling. Years ago someone remarked all my clothes were black and I said... which was true... that was because I only seemed to buy clothes for funerals those days. :sad1: Losing people is very hard. It's nice to learn about you as a person... thanks for sharing those things. (Seeing it reminds me we need another thread in HT&E about life stories cuz there are new faces or people who were gone a while and may have missed that thread.) It was really nice hearing more about you! It feels more like a family, knowing about people who write here.
Please don't feel you need to defend your values or life. We all need to see and look for the beauty in our own lives and each other. There is so much beauty there in each of us, so finding it is easy to do. And if I disagree, it does not mean I dislike. :smile1: And like FPSHOT said... if I disagree... I am not necessarily 'wearing my moderator hat'. I don't consider myself 'special' for being a moderator, only I feel honored to be a long time part of this really great forum. But I feel like it's teammate, if that makes sense? I am probably the least authoritiarian person you could know (ask all the neighborhood kids who have all adoted my house as their own, lol).
God bless :smile1:

Mmmmm, you posted my favorite pic of George. He looks sooo good there. The first time I showed that picture to my 59 year old mom, she went nuts like a 20 year old. She said "Oh my God he is so gorgeous!! Oh he is the best looking one in that group, look at those lips!" For a few days before that, I had been telling her that I thought he had the best looks in the group (I still think so). She said "Yes it's a tie between George and Paul." But once she saw that picture, oh boy! Now she has a crush on him too (just like me). Although she was always much closer in age to him than I was. I just turned 33 and she just turned 59. She was born in 1946, so she was 3 years younger than George. I'm 29 years younger than him!!!

I'm having some problems with my website space. Hence, some of the pics are not here now. That's what happened and I'm working on it. Since I can't edit the older posts I'll let everyone know the links of everything once I get it together on either another site I manage or get more space on my current site. Thanks for your patience on breaking up this link.

Peace and love... :ignore:
I would be very interested in such a book. A few years ago, New Musical Express did a similar thing, a special issue of the original articles as they appeared in the earlier issues, even with some of the ads! The Daily Mirror put out a hardcover book with articles they had published of the Beatles through 1970. I was wondering what time frame your collection covers, and where did most of your aricles come from? :wave1:
