The word's out! The Beatles' "1" has set a new record.
(Launch) - The aptly named collection of number one hits from the Beatles, "1," has proven to be a record-setter around the world. The album has reached the top of the chart in 34 different countries, surpassing the U2 album "Pop," which reached the peak position in 32 countries. Apple Corps and EMI Records will petition The Guinness Book of World Records to have a citation for "1" included in upcoming editions. Since its November release, "1" has earned more than 120 platinum certifications worldwide, and EMI has shipped 20 million copies of the album.

Another Beatle record? Who said Elvis was the biggest artist in the 20th Century? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
Anyway, anybody know how many copies of "1" have been sold by now? The last thing I heard talked about 32 millions... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I don't know how many more are now, even though that's an impressive number.

Nowhere Man: "1" is still at the Top Ten list of best-selling albums in the two biggest record stores ("Feria del Disco" and "Musimundo", we don't have an "official" chart here http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif). It spent a lot of time as #1 (about nine or ten weeks), and now it's, I think placed in #6. The current #1? Lenny Kravitz' "Greatest Hits".
Lucy: I had to go to the Dictionary to find out what "flood" means http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif. Anyway, it's the North part of Chile (the one that's near to Peru) that suffered that flood, because of the "Bolivian Winter" thing that happens every summer. So I'm fine because I live in the south part of the country.
Anyway, I have to tell you, we're a country that's very used to that kind of tragedies: I could swear that my city (Concepción) is gonna suffer from either a flood or a drought this next winter. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I beleive the record to be 47,000,000+ for the eagles' Greatest Hits 1970-1975.

The Eagles` management talks of 40 million worldwide. That would be 15 million outside of the US, which sounds exaggerated, as the Eagles weren`t as big worldwide as in the US. And the Eagles released some other Greatest Hits Collections after 1976, which included ALL of their Classics, not just those of "1971-1976". It`s a mystery to me how such a limited GH like "1971-1976" could sell so well over the years.
Tim
Feb 23, 2001, 04:47 PM
Also how Dark Side Of the Moon could be in the LP charts for 15 years solid. Or how no Beatles LP topped the chart for more than 15 weeks.

To me too. I have a much better "Eagles Greatest Hits" collection, one with a "desert" cover with 17 songs from the first to the last album. I initially thought THAT was the album of the big sales, but now I realized that was the limited 1971-1976 collection... You're right at your comment.

You're right, Jami. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif An adult female horse is indeed called a mare, the adult male is called a stallion. A foal is a horse not yet one year old; a colt is a young male and a filly is a young female. A gelding is a sterilized male horse. A pony is a small horse, less than 58 inches (146 cm) tall at the shoulder. And, for those of you who may be interested, mules and hinnies are the offspring of donkeys and horses. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

English wasn't my first language, believe it or not... when I first started school I didn't know a word of it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif But it all came quite easily after that and I always excelled at it. After I got the English prize in my senior year at school the teacher recommended I follow on with it at university, which is exactly what I did. So, I just finished my degree at the end of last year (one of my double majors was English) and currently I'm doing my Honours in English... next year I'll start a Master of Arts in Creative Writing - for which I'll be able to write my first novel, a proper one that will be published and put onto the market. It can be a lot of work sometimes, but the most important thing is that I'm enjoying it very much. I love to write. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif I'm hoping to eventually get into the movie industry writing screenplays and things like that. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Saving is a fine thing, especially when your parents have done it for you. Alternatively, you could try borrowing from pessimists next time - they won't expect anything back.

That's "lindísimo" in Spanish.
Eleanor might be "lindísima". Nowhere Man, at his best, could be considered "tierno".

I can't be positive, of course, but I don't think NWM has passed all the exit exams for personal humility... and I'm all but sure (since he apparently lives online) that he has no clue what the outdoors, horses or anything else that don't reside on a microchip really looks like... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
