I would say the rarest Beatle item I own is an original 45 of "She Loves You" on the Swan label. I do own all of the officially released album from America, plus imports from England, Germany, Japan, Canada, Holland and Italy.
Something else that is very rare these days is 8-Track tapes. If I'm not mistaken, I have 6 of these, which include Sgt. Pepper, The Beatles (White Album) and Beatles '65. And yes, they still play.

The first LP you have sounds like Walls & Bridges.
The Love Me To LP sounds to be a bootleg.
The rarities I have are a few of the picture sleeves and some VeeJay records(PPM/FMTY 45,the EP,Songs Pictures and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles).

I have the MONO gold on black Please Please Me. The stereo is 10 times rarer, and is worth $2,000. The MONO os worth $550. My personaly copy is a bit grotty and is worth about $160.
And I made a little mistake regarding my butcher cover (Which I got on Tuesday) It's a 3rd state, and not a 2nd state.

Well, let's see. My Beatles LPs are all reissues from the 80s. But my solo LPs are all original, so I think there are a few rare things in there. Wait, I don't have Paul's 'Thrillington.' Apart from the bootlegs, I only have a few other original/rare things. I do have a butcher album, but it looks like a 2 year old kid did the peeling. I have a few original 45s, like "Help/I'm Down" and maybe one other. I also have an Apple "Get Back/Don't Let Me Down" 45 that was signed by Billy Preston. That's pretty cool actually, because it says "The Beatles With Billy Preston" on the 45, and he signed right next to that. I think that's the only time their recordings weren't credited to just "The Beatles." Anyway, that's all I can think of right now.

Well, In England, they produced MONO albums right up to Yellow Submarine, but because the MONO version sold very dismally, they scrapped the foprmat and produced Abbey Road and Let it Be in stereo only (Apart from the 8 track cassettes that were released) MONO white albums also sold very dismally, and so in good condition can be worth anything up to £175-£200, which is about $300-$350. I got my first MONO from a record shop, which set me back £90. (The biggest price I've ever paid for a record) Then, a fortnight later, a local dealer I know called Terry showed me an original White album he had, which also turned out to be MONO, and, not wishing to miss out on a good deal (It was better condition than the last one I bought, and was £40 cheaper) I bought that too.

There are a ton of differences between the mono and stereo White Albums. Some are just little things like different mixes, but others are pretty major like longer songs, different tracks, etc. It's definitely worth having. I have a double bootleg CD of the mono version. It's not really a bootleg I guess, but where else are you going to get a perfect sounding mono copy of the LP?
------------------
Webmaster - BeatleLinks.net (http://www.beatlelinks.net)
I just wondered, even though it's not really rare or anything I guess, but could the 30th anniversary limited edition release of the White Album be worth much? In a hundred years maybe? If so, then I take it it'd be worth getting.

Aha, ic... well I've found 2 actually! There's 2 left in one of the CD stores near me, so maybe I'll grab em both. I picked up a lot of interview CD's the other day too, those 'The Beatles Inside Interviews' and 'The Beatles In Their Own Words: A Rockumentary' ones, if anyone's ever seen or got them.

I'm so excited! Today, we bought the "Can't Buy Me Love" 45 and picture sleeve! It's in mint condition....it's the rarest picture sleeve. Next to the Butcher cover, probably the most valuable commercial release. My next big purchase will be the Butcher cover. Yay!!!

Regarding the Introducing the Beatles LP - It has to be a counterfeit. For starters, just because it has George's shadow and is glossed doesn't mean it's original. If it did, then I'd have a $5,000 album with me right now. There are only 10 known stereo copies with the column back cover, and none are sealed, so the chances that this man just discovered one in his collection are astronomical!
Speaking of Introducing the Beatles LP - I bought one from eBay a couple weeks ago. I'm starting to collect counterfeits and such for a new website I'm considering. However, after checking all the pointers to determine whether a copy is original or fake, it fitted every single authenticity point. Cover and record. I bought the record for $30, and it ended up being worth $300!!
Not a bad little investment.
btw, How much did you pay for the pic sleeve?

We bought it for $650.00, which is a pretty good deal considering the great condition it's in! My husband actually bought it from a friend of his, John Fred....does anyone remember the #1 he had back in the 60's, "Judy In Disguise"? So, buying it from his collection made it even more worth it, I think!

Jerry, that's where I got the pointers from to authenticate my Intorducing the Beatles LP. Breaking news, I'm going to be getting 3 more copies of this album. one I know is fake, but the other two I'm not too sure on. If they're genuine, then together they're worth about $1,000. Not back for a $50 payment.

That site said that only a few confirmed originals have been found listing Love Me do and P.S. I Love You. I have one that I bought in 1964 (I also have the Please,Please Me version). The charts were not that clear as to verifying an original or fake. Any ideas?

I love that song. The bass line is especially good on that one.
By the way Harb, there is a site out there already that deals specifically with the 'Introducing' LP. Actually, it's just one feature of a larger website, but it's pretty comprehensive. Check it out... http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/beatles/intro/intro.html

I know one way you can tell if your 45 is an original......the top part of the sleeve should be straight across (where the record goes in). I think the fakes are rounded there. I'll try and find out more!

jami,
All Capitol 45s were legitamately issued with both the straight cut and die-cut sleeves.
The main way to tell real from fake is that the fakes have an inferior print quaslity to the originals.(i.e. fuzzy slightly out of focus photos).

That may be true with most 45's, but I know for sure that on the Can't Buy Me Love one that I bought, they only made the real one's with the straight cut sleeve and not the other. This particular 45 wasn't mass produced, so maybe that's why they did it that way.

I think Jtal909 was talking about the LP Introducing the Beatles. Here's what to look for to authenticate one...
Front Cover
-----------
-The photo should be crisp and in focus. Blurred photo's are almost definitly a counterfeit.
-Does George have a shadow to the right of him? If not then it's a countefeit.
-If it's stereo, (It either has STEREOPHONIC written across the top in grey, or printed above the Vee Jay logo*) then alarm bells should start ringing. Very few authentic stereo copies of this album exist. Especially the Love Me Do versions. (*If the word STEREO is underneath the Vee Jay logo then it's a counterfeit*)
Spine
-----
-If there's no writing on the spine then it's a counterfeit.
Opening
-------
Look at the cardboard overlap at the top and bottom. The size on originals is 1/4". Fakes can be over 1/2".
Back Cover
----------
-The cover can be one of three things. It can have advertisements for other records, have a completely blank back, or have the song titles. Is the paper on the back cover textured? Does it have a kind of pattern on it? If not, it's a flatback sleeve and fake.
-Love Me Do versions are very rare, but do exist. If it is a love me do back it's probably a counterfeit, but this doesn't rule out the possibility. If it's a stereo Love Me Do then it most probably is. There's only 10 of these in existence.
-Look at the top flap above the 'INTRODUCING THE BEATLES'. Are there coloured dots there? If so then it's a countefeit. Originals had then in another place.
Disc
----
-Love Me Do discs only had a colourband label. If it's all black then it's a fake.
-Look at the phrases 'INTRODUCING THE BEATLES' and 'THE BEATLES'. If the record is an original then these phrases should both be above the spindle hole. If the hole seperates the phrases, then it's a fake.
-Remember that although some stereo LP's do actually play mono, the reverse isn't so, so it's a mono label but it plays stereo, then it's a fake.
-The label should have a semi-gloss finish to it. If it isn't shiny, then it's a fake.
-On stereo discs, the word 'STEREO' could be found either at the top of the label, to the right or to the left. If it's anywhere else then it's a fake.
-The label shouldn't be flat. It should be textured. Falt labels are fake.
Your record has to pass every one of these points before you can call it an original. If it's an original stereo Love Me Do, can I have it?
Tim
Feb 23, 2001, 06:18 AM
That wasn't in my notes(and my copy of Perry Cox isn't at hansd). But the fakes,as do all others, have an inferior quality to the pictures, type, and paper quality.

Let's see: I've been checking my "rare" recordings by The Beatles, and they don't seem to be that "rare", except for some of you who don't live in Chile: they're all chilean editions of the British LPs, collected by my dad: the "rarest" of them all are the chilean edition of "A Hard Day's Night", with a different cover (a single picture of the four of them, on which John seems to be a mad man http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif, rather than the squares with lots of individual pictures) and a different and long title: "Canciones de la Película: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Paul, John, George y Ringo (A Hard Day's Night) (Anochecer De Un Día Agitado)"; the chilean edition of "Beatles For Sale", released in 1965, now with the original cover but again with a different title ("Los Beatles Cantan Para Usted"); one of the two "White Album" vinyls, with a cover which shows the four individual pictures currently available thanks to the poster in the CD set (the fact that we have only Disc 2 makes me think that the album was sold separately and not as a double set here in Chile, but my father doesn't remember it), and with the releasing date that says "(P)1969" rather than 1968; the average chilean edition of "Abbey Road" (the only change being the translation of the titles of the songs, hence "El Martillo De Maxwell" is for "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"); and the american (Capitol) editions of "Let It Be" and the Red and Blue albums.
Oh, and I almost forgot, all of the vinyls have the "Odeón Marca Registrada" label on it, and the song titles and reviews are translated to spanish.
