Anyway, Fixing a hole, Mr. Kite, Within you without you.

Real tough choices here. I like the look and feel of "When I'm Sixty-Four" and I like the not so innocent/protaganistic approach used in "Fixin' a Hole" and I definitely like the serendipitous charm yet the purely fatal attraction of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". As well I also like the loopy-headed innocence of "With a Little Help From My Friends" but I would have to say the "Good Morning Good Morning" is definitely the kill and gets my vote.

I thought that was a "concept" album (we couldn't separate the songs http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif. ) Anyway, my favorite one is "A Day In The Life" (what a chaotic suite!). Close, but not enough, are Ringo's "With A Little Help From My Friends" (yes, I know he didn't write it, but it's sounds like he did) and George's universal anthem "Within You Without You"

Oh sorry, no, I was referring to 'AHDN' the film...
But, now that you've mentioned, I wouldn't mind seeing 'Sgt. Pepper's LHCB' either. Have you seen this one? I know the Beatles weren't in it, I wonder if it's still a good watch though... and also 'The Rutles'?
bearkat77
Jan 23, 2001, 08:43 PM
Nowhere Man, I've seen both and between the two I'd prefer the Rutles movie. In the Sgt. Pepper movie, there were a few good moments with Aerosmith covering "Come Together" and Alice Cooper doing "Because". Also, Billy Preston, portraying Sgt. Pepper, doing "Get Back".
------------------
Bearkat77's Beatlemaniac Page (http://bearkat77.www9.50megs.com)
Aha, I see, so they're the type of movies you'd see maybe more for the songs than anything. I will look for them... though it's frustrating here since all the Beatles movies are near impossible to find (everywhere I've looked, anyway). Just on covers, I saw a 'Beatles tribute' album yesterday with various different covers on it that I was tempted to get, I wondered if anyone else had it?

Hmm... good question. I didn't look at it properly (the front of it was all white with the 'Beatles tribute' writing in black). And it had about 15-20 different Beatles songs on the album, covered by others... so I'm really not sure if Sir George produced it? I'll go back soon and check it out again, maybe even buy it.

I Want To Hold Your Hand is a pretty good movie, but it doesn't deal with the Beatles themselves. It's about a group of teenagers trying to get into to see them on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Am I too late to comment on the movie "That Thing You Do"? I thought it was brilliant the way Tom Hanks managed to recreate the feel of the sixties. It seemed as if every guy alive was either playing a guitar or the drums and joining a band. Everyone was looking for a clever name for his group (ala the Beatles, of course) and trying to line up a gig. I absolutely love that movie. Tom Hanks is a genius! He covered it all and his casting was outstanding!

Alright I'll jump in and revive this topic. It might have started out as an concept album, but when Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields were removed a them that would have bound the album together (childhood memories ) was also removed. Only the first two songs were crosfaded into each other and you can say that the theme of the album was that the Sgt. Peppers Lonely hearts Club Band were performing their songs in a show but the songs really has litlle to do with each other, John has said that his songs could have been released on any other album.
Back to the question being asked 2 years ago today. My favourite without a doubt is "A Day In The Life"

Hi Guys, new here on this forum.
I love Pepper as it was the first album that I really got into. A day in the life is just one of those songs that sends a shiver down my spine when I hear it - pure genius! The one thing that I wish is that t he Sgt Pepper reprise was a longer song as the beat that it starts on is fantastic. Ringo has never been given the full accolades for his drumming but I think he is one of the best!

Within You, Without You
Lovely Rita
