Erin and I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio yesterday. It's not the first time we've been there, we go pretty often, but this time they had some new John stuff on display...his passports! It was awesome seeing them, and the picture attached to the earliest one made it even better:

I love the expression on his face, the clothes, the hair, everything! Seeing his passports gave us a glimpse into the reality of how much traveling the Beatles did. There were stamps from just about everywhere, and I thought it was funny that on the occupation line it used to read "student", but was then crossed out to read "musician." :smile1: There were scads of people gathered around the new John stuff, further proving that if the Rock Hall would just have a special exhibit for the Beatles, I'm sure they would have record numbers of people buying tickets.

Yea- it was definitely awesome to see this passport. And on a later passport that was used for France and the US in '64 I learned some new Beatles info, which is pretty impressive. This passport had a stamp from the US Embassy in France, and the little plaque beside the passport said that they did this to everyone's passports in Paris so that they wouldn't have to deal with it when they landed at JFK. But the passport that Amanda put in here above was amazing. I'm definitely more of a Paul girl, but wow... John looks pretty stinkin good in this pic. And he was dressed so smartly! A dress shirt, tie, sweater and a really nice looking wool dress coat. But still that teddy boy 50s haircut. And he's tryin to look so hard and mean! The passports are definitely a welcome addition to the collection of items they have that are John's: we spent a really long time reading over them and studying them. If you have time to go visit the rock hall soon, I would recommend it.
And if you get the time, shoot the rock hall an email about doing a special Beatles exhibit. They currently have one for "Tommy", and consequently a special exhibit for the Who. I have nothing but respect for the Who, but why not recognize the British band that paved the way for the rest of those British Invasion bands? Yoko has obviously already been willing to allow tons of John's things to be put on display, and they have had a smattering of other awesome Beatles things through the years. I'd wager that it wouldn't be hard to get some cool stuff to put on display from Paul, Ringo and Olivia.

Is that sarcasm, Bexy? If not, it should be. Do you see how starved for cool Beatles things we are over here? ;)

I don't think we're starved for cool Beatles things in the US, I've seen plenty here in NYC...and plenty of other parts of the country too. The Rock Hall has lots of Beatles stuff, every Hard Rock Cafe does, and there are other sites too. Maybe you just don't live in or visit the right places, Erin! :wink2:

I think Erin's point was actually that us over here are wanting to go over to England to see all the Beatle-ish stuff, while obviously Bexy is there and wants to see all the stuff over here. When I read her comment I thought it was quite funny to think of that precise thing. Here me, Pepperland, and Erin are dying (And planning, lol) to go there and never thought about how those there might really wish to come over here and see Beatle sites and things. Funny really...ah well, don't mind me...

I realized what Erin's point was, I was kidding! KID-DING...didn't anyone see the winkies? You'd think John's fans would understand sarcasm, yes?
MY point was that there is plenty of Beatles stuff here in the US if you know where to look for it. I've led Beatles-themed walking tours of New York City, so I can definitely say that there's not a lack of Beatles stuff here, anyway.
I am sure that as much as we American fans want to get to England, there are plenty of English fans who want to come see what we do have here, as you said.

If anyone is Beatles starved, it's us out here in Canuck Land (Canada). All we have are the various Hard Rock cafe's, Q107 (and any other classic rock stations in other provinces) a few crummy little tourist attraction places (like Niagra falls' "Rock Hall of fame wax muesum... which made John look like a hunchback and ringo look deformed, or a little resturant near wonderland...), and the Beatle Mania Shoppe. I swear we need more stuff out here.....

We have some cool Beatles things, I will definitely admit. I always think of how lucky I am to live within easy driving distance of Cleveland so I can always drive up and take a gander at John's help jacket or his Ric (at one time they had Paul's Shea stadium jacket too.... you don't even want to know how much I spazzed when I saw that!). But there's just something different about England. To be in that place where they walked before they were famous: to see boyhood homes, pubs they went to, etc. And then to see Abbey Road Studios, Cavendish Avenue..... I dunno. There's just a special added element that England has to offer. England was home to them, and I just can't wait to see it. And I can't wait to hear nothing but Brits around me talking. Basically, in my book, you are cool from the word go if you open up your mouth and have a British accent. I know. How incredibly shallow. But it's true. And oh... my... goodness, you have no idea how stoked I am to be in Liverpool and be completely surrounded by Liverpudlian accents.
