Favourite comedian would have to be Peter Kay right now although he's probably not known outwith the UK. Billy Connolly ranks pretty high, he is in Edinburgh just now for a week of shows but I prefer his older stuff - his heads a bit up his own arse now.
Comic Actors - I really enjoy Ben Stillers movies and David Schwimmer from Friends has brilliant comic timing.

At the moment its Peter Kaye but I will always have a big space in my heart for the Python boys.

On the first season of Last Comic Standing, I absolutely loved Dave Mordal. His stand-up is great. I also enjoy Dave Chapell (sp?), Ryan Stiles, and Bill Cosby.

Monty Python boys, Conan O'Brien, John Stewart, and Margaret Cho.

Has anyone seen her movie "The Notorious C.H.O."? It's hilarious, I nearly died laughing.

Drew Carrey has me laughing until tears come from my eyes! My favorite episode was the one where he and his business associates get into a dance fight with some drag queens. The police send out extra back up and Carrey, et al. put on a wonderfully choreographed dance routine for the police sergeant to Edgar Winters' "Free Ride." That is just TOO funny!

Queen Latifah. I love her! She is a powerhouse of talent. She can sing, dance, act and there is nothing she can't do. Queen is pure talent. I loved her in "Chicago" and she was a RIOT in "Bringing Down the House." I love her! Queen is an outstanding talent and I like her self confidence.

Steve Martin is classic and current comedy. He is very funny and with Queen (who stole the show in "Bringing Down the House") he was a pisser!

Paul Rodriguez. I love him. He is just too funny! I always cry from laughing when I watch him. He is pure comic talent.

George Lopez. He is such a scream! He has me laughing so hard it hurts.

The "Mr. Bean" show is hysterically funny. That thing with the television...I was crying from laughing so hard. He rents this television and he :laugh5: can't get it to play, so he tries to fool the set...I'm laughing as I think about it. That was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

Oh, yeah, Monty Python. I love the classic 1969 sketch of The Dead Parrot. That was such a pisser and I was wiping tears of laughter out of my eyes when I watched that show. It is just too funny!

One of my favorite actors/comedians is Eddy Murphy. Especially during the beginning of his career. Now Coming To America was one of his best movies ever. He's soo funny in that one! :laugh5:

Right now, Lewis Black. I just finished listening to his new book - I got the audio version because he reads it himself, and I just can't resist the way he delivers his lines! :laugh1: The book was terrific - he's actually led a pretty interesting life. And "Back In Black" has always been my favorite segment on The Daily Show. :thumbu1:

Cher's my fave. She has so much natural humor, & it is so spontaneous. She gets that smile where just seeing you start to giggle. Queen Latifah is awesome. I love Eric Idle especially~ he must be my fave guy comedian. I also love Rowin Atkinson and Steve Martin. George Carlin can be hysterically funny, too. The bit he does about mass obligation, being on a boat, and crossing the international date line was one of the funniest ever. :smile1:

Bill Bailey - he does it for me. His humour is so surreal and he has such fantastic timing that everything he says is hilarious. He also does musical numbers that really make the laughter tears stream down your cheeks!

Get his DVDs!!!

Drew Carey, Ryan Stiles, Colin Mocherie (sp?), and Michael J. Fox are my very favorites.

George Lopez - His show is a riot
Jim Belushi - I like his show because it shows the idiotic side of the male ego.
Rodney Carrington - This guy is a scream to watch
George Carlin - "Stuff" sketch and "7 Words"(betcha can't eat just one..haha)

My sense of humour is what I call a little off base from most peoples. The ones I listed above are just a few I like. There are others but for some reason, I just couldn't get into the type of humour done by Jim Carrey, I can't stand Seinfeld, to me Letterman is boring and conceited and Ray Romano, to me, comes off as a whiner. I know there are a lot of fans of these comedians and I would never knock these people for liking them. I just can't get a chuckle out of them. But that's just my opinion.

Mike Palin, Eric Idle and John Cleese (All ex M.P. lads) still crack me up! Jim Carrey is a true comedian and fast becoming a brilliant actor, too. I love Eddie Murphy as a stand up comedian. Also, in England there are a bunch of brilliant comedians. I don't know if it still runs, but ages ago there was this show called Hale & Pace, starring two blokes, Gary Hale and Norman Pace and that was just about the funniest stuff I have EVER seen, even more than Python, in my book.

Billy and Johnny... Hee hee hee!!!!

Oh I almost forgot...
British comedians I think are/were great:
The Python Troupe (of course)
The 2 Ronnie's(Corbett and Barkley)
Benny Hill
Bill Owen, Peter Sallis, Brian Wilde, Frank Thornton, Stephen Lewis, Tom Owen, Thora Hird (Last of The Summer Wine)

There is another comedian who was out about the same time as Benny Hill. His name was Dave something and I can't remember his last name. He did a lot of political humour, religious skits and all. I know he was missing part of a finger, and he always did a spot where he just sat there talking to the audience while smoking a cigarrette.

Beatle_4 - That's Dave Allen you're talking about there. Unfortunately he died earlier this year.

Thanx Harb. I knew it was something like Allen but couldn't quite get it. I thought his humour was quite witty. Sad to hear he passed away.

You may be right Sally but we're kind of limited on British comedys here in Canada. We get the older shows like Last of The Summer Wine, As Time Goes By, Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served, etc. I think the newest one we have showing here, at least where I live, is a very funny show about some sort of super hero who's name is George and his wife is a nurse. I love the scenes where they show the baby, whose supposed to be about 2 or 3 months old, talking like someone who's been through school already.

Oh my... umm
Comedian: Eddie Izzard (Oh, I gotta turn, there's a f---in' castle), George Carlin (Just don't let them bend it into a J shape, Dave Barry (kinda low on good quotes right now..)
Comedy teams: Monty Python (this is my identical twin sister, Dingo), kinda Morcambe (sp) and Wise, even though I haven't seen much of their stuff. I like what I have seen.

I love comedians!

I adore Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, the Marx Bros, the Three Stooges, Hope and Crosby, Martin and Lewis, Cook and Moore...

My more current faves are Jerry Seinfeld, Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, The State, Lewis Black, Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Cheech and Chong, Dave Attell, Larry David, Mitch Hedberg, etc.

I saw Lewis Black, Dave Attell, and Mitch Hedberg live a while back. I couldn't stop laughing! I'd love to see George Lopez. I swear he must have gotten his material from my family ("Wait for me! Wait for me!") :laugh5:

And Lewis Black is brilliant. I love his skit regarding the end of the universe and Starbucks.

Oooh, and I love Bill Cosby. I grew up listening to his tapes. Kill the Boy is hilarious!

Such an obvious title and I couldn't get it. I just happened to catch it coming on now.

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer are unbelievable. I loved the Trinity movies they made. I think there was only the 2 of them though, My Name Is Trinity and They Still Call Me Trinity.

I know they are Italian but I wonder if anybody knows their real names. I don't, although I do remember a talk show where they gave their real names but this was years ago.

Terence Hill's real name is Mario Girotti and he was born in Venezia: "I was given a list with twenty names and twentyfour hours to choose one from it. I chose the name Terence Hill because it appealed to me and also because the name has the same initials as my mother's."

Bud Spencer's real name is Carlo Pedersoli. He was born in Napoles. He chose "Bud" because of his favorite beer's name ("Budweiser" I presume), and "Spencer" for Spencer Tracy.

Stephen Lynch is my all-time favorite comedian... He is hilarious! He writes sarcastic/occassionally sadistic little tunes and performs then with an acoustic guitar. I was actually able to see him live around this time last year, and met him after the show. Not too bad on the eyes, either...

Oh, I'll be original and say George Carlin. Seriously, he's got to be the funniest guy on the planet. Craig Shoemaker ("the LoveMaster") is also a very funny comedian. Steven Wright, too. And his female doppleganger, Margaret Smith. They both have that dry sense of humor that cracks me up!

There are 2 guys here in Canada (don't know if they are too well known any where else) that are unbeliveable. Bowser and Blue. They really put down the Canadian government (Quebec mostly), Iraq, the list is endless. Their routines can be a bit crude to some but for the most part, they are very clever, funny guys. Anybody else heard of them?
