I'll be interested to see if the majority say All Things Must Pass.
To me ATMP is a album that was perfect for the time and still stands up as a great piece of work but I think George produced better, more personal recordings later in his career.
I think his best period came with the George Harrison album and ran right through to Cloud 9. Gone Troppo included, a very underrated piece of work.Cloud 9 is a classic 80's album in every way and defined a period similar to the way ATMP did.
His weak period for me was Dark Horse through to 33 and a Third. Some good individual tracks but not consistant albums.
Live in Japan is a nice live document but the songs lack an edge which many live shows have and some songs have the feeling of going through the motions.
Brainwashed is a masterpiece - a perfect farewell.

The best? For me it has to be Brainwashed.

*Sigh* The last time I looked Traveling Wilbury's were a band and not just George Harrison solo albums in disguise. I left Best of albums off as the majority of the tracks are on the other albums and All Things Must Pass 2000 is just ATMP re-released with some bonuses.

You can't win, Beatlemad...

Even at the risk of sounding boring: I like Thirty Three & 1/3...

Great topic Beatlemad! Any yes, I understand your very logical inclusions of the albums you chose to list. (I noticed you did not include Ringo or Stop and Smell the Roses, and since I feel George had major contributions on those, I'd have liked those included, too.... not! *wink*)

Folks, let's ignore all argumentation and focus on Beatlemad's original topic.

....which is difficult for me to chose!!! I think my fave cd/album changes. Right now, I'd say Living in the Material World. I'm in the groove for those messages right now, some call it the most ISKCON influenced lp. Be Here Now is very soothing for me atm.

Living in the Material World is probably the album I have listened to least, mainly because I only have it on vinyl. I must check it out again.

I really can't decide or pick just one. Many are based on one's mood.

ATMP is intensely soothing and is just the right Rx if you feel stressed out. "Living in the Material World" is an excellent, thought - provoking collection. "Cloud 9" is fun and it meets different needs as does 33 1/3, "Gone Troppo," "Live in Japan" and the others. It really depends on my mood. Today it's "Live in Japan."

My favourite album is predictably ATMP. To me it is just a beautiful, sublime album, and while other of George's albums have come close, none of them have quite surpassed it for me. If you were to ask me to choose my second favourite album, it would be much harder. Albums like George Harrison, 33 & 1/3, LITMW, Cloud 9 and of course Brainwashed are all fantastic and it would be hard to choose between them, but number one for me is always ATMP.

Living in the material world closely followed by ATMP. Does Chants of India count?

I must say that though I'm not that familiar with George's solo stuff, I do love Cloud 9 :smile1:

Nobody gonna say Gone Troppo?

Although not my favourite I do have a soft spot for Gone Troppo. The opening three of Wake Up My love, That's The Way It Goes (brill!!) and I Really Love You are great pop music while Greece is a nice tune and I love Mystical One. An underrated one Gone Troppo I feel.
