What is it about the slide guitar that makes it so damn good? I just can't get enough of it. George plays it to perfection. I'm just listening to Woman Don't you cry for me and all I hear is the beautiful sound, hard to explain it.It's the defining point of all George's albums for me, be it My Sweet Lord from ATMP right through to Rising Sun on Brainwashed. It's the perfect sound!

I agree! They were talking a bit about George's playing when he and Eric were touring Japan and Eric was trying to say someone did something similar and George corrected him that no one can play exactly like him, though they may try. I loved that. I think it is partly because George's influences were so varied. He grew up and skiffle and Elvis and all those things, rockabilly, then went into Indian influences, and on through... until wasn't it Delany and Bonnie who finally forced George into playing the slide in a formal way? But he'd already had this sitar training and what not, and then loving the likes of Chet Atkins. Then George developed interests in Hawaiian things so we can add slack key! It is just so much, I think, his personal genius combining with being open to so many styles of music. I think no one can play like George... and of course, music is nothing without heart and feeling, expressiveness of that heart. We know George qualifies in that catagory. :smile1:

"My Sweet Lord" just came on the radio station I'm listening to, so I have inspiration while I write. :wink1: I'm not completely sure why I love that guitar part so much... it comes through like another voice in the song. Paul and John always had their vocals they were well-known for, and George has this slide guitar that seems to speak for him in his songs and really makes his music unique. It's definately the greatest addition to any one of his albums.

Hard to 'Imagine' what 'Gimme Some Truth' and 'How Do You Sleep' would've sounded with out George's contributions.
