George did so much work for others, creating a string of pearls. Just been listening to these buried gems. Day after Day by Badfinger and bluest Blues by Alvin Lee. I don't know about you, but get choked up, hearing the emotional slide parts by George.
Then there is Splinter, and Drink All Day is such a wonderful uplifting gem.
George's work on Nicky and Belinda Carlisle album, runaway horses.
Just a few of the many, I just listen to them all today. Fantastic music, with great help from George.

It seems like you had a 'sessions for others' day Legs :smile1: and the examples you refer to are amongst my favorite which he did with others.

I am now playing Alvin Lee's "The Bluest Alive" and apart from it being a fantastic blue blues song which by itself can indeed take your breath away..but on that song at 2.20 minutes when George comes in on slide it's like... "OMG what is happening here" because already being in a trance from the blue song..then all of a sudden he is there with that sensational solo..

Day After Day is one of my favorite 'in general' single records, I just loved it from the first moment, way back when grass was green, when it was released because of the acoustic guitars and yeah on top of that this great solo of George (and Pete) in the middle.

Splinter is a band which we really should discuss more of here because their work with George is a bit splintered under, don't you think? He did marvelous session work with them at Friar Park.

Nicky..oh yes...another example... well you know I have that CD and those two songs..two..right?...that George plays on are even two very different type of songs but George just is there and really, I am sure that many here don't even know those songs and they are just a w e s o m e

Belinda...well...needs no description huh...maybe his best rocking solo ever?

Fantastic music Legs..you must feel newborn after all these Live CD's from...oops :wink1: (kidding)

And..yes Jewels...George sure made those recordings very special by his input, and the ones you mention here all are different types of songs, and our George just picks it up and creates the best fitting parts which 'polish up' those songs immediately (polish...jewels...)

and Anna Julia by Jim Capaldi(R.I.P).
or Saltwater by Julian Lennon.
or Badge by Cream.

Saltwater is a nice song, but George wasn't involved in that one.
Yes I am having a day off from Paul is live ;)
There is another, short but sweet, guitar solo on Belinda's album I just discovered while listening to the cd today. It's on "Deep Deep Ocean",another beauty.

As far as I know, George was involved in the guitar arrangement on Saltwater, but Julian did not use one of the parts George gave him. Now I do not remember the reason for that just now, it will come to me.

Another quite unknown one is The Holdup, a song for a movie which George wrote with David Bromberg and where he plays quite some amazing guitar parts.

Walk A Thin Line of Mick Fleetwood is also quite nice.

It isn't in mine either. Anyway that's not really the point of the discusion.

I haven't heard those yet. In a way I am glad, because that means there is more to discover.

George is not mentioned in the Saltwater credits.

Another very nice one is "Take Away The Sadness" by Jim Horn and a very very nice one is "Don't Try To On Me" with Gary Wright

Okay, but I don't think "all at Virgin Records" played on the album either..

Moving on...Gary Brooker's "Mineral Man" also is lifted up by George's guitar work

Can I make a suggestion?

This has become a big list of songs/tracks George did with others...what if we add our personal thoughts about the ones we post? In stead of this becoming a huge list of titles? I think maybe that is nice? And yes I contributed in the listing, but there is always a time to change?

Speak, yes, I can speak. But I can hardly be convinced... I think his solo on Belinda Carlisle's "Leave A Light On For Me" is one of his best. I cannot get tired of listening to that song (and it's a cheesy 80's pop tune!) just because of that guitar solo. It sets fire to the song, and at the same time its calm and light-hearted. I had to say that.

Legs,
Have you been listening to "Spot The Looney" today?

http://www.bootlegzone.com/album.php?name=FLO018&section=4

My favorites of these are Badge (Cream) ,and Punchdrunk (Rubyhorse)(disc 4 of Spot The Looney). I get chills whenever I hear Punchdrunk!! I discovered this just before George died and it has a definite Beatles feel to it. Like what they should've sounded like on Free As A Bird and Real Love. In fact, I'm off to find it in my collection right after I'm done here. I've had the "Spot The Looney" boot for a while, but haven't gotten around to listening to it. I think I'll be checking it out some in the next few days. I definitely want to hear Jim Capaldi's stuff. Oh, and I agree with "King of Broken Hearts", I listened to that solo on the way to work on Nov. 30, 2001 and cried and cried.

No no, I don't have that bootleg. I have many of the cd's with George's contributions. Actually FPSHOT and I were both pleased to find the Nicky Hopkins album on cd, Belinda I liked from back in the 80's but George was the final reason to buy that cd. And he plays on a lot of songs, not just "Leave a light on". Garry Moore's "Still Got The Blues" is an excelent album, which I liked even before I knew about George's contribution. I like "Still Got The Blues" years later I got the "Nobody's Child" cd, which is very esential cause it got many George/ Beatle related tracks on it, even a live version of "With A Little Help" by Ringo. So then I found out about the track "That Kind Of Woman" and that Garry also did a version.

So I just stuck in one cd in the player, listened to the George tracks, take the cd out and have a go with another cd. I do not have all the cd's, lots of the tracks I have are on a cd-r FPSHOT send me once.

Cool!!
I've been listening to some of the songs that are on the STL boot, especially like Jim Capaldi's 'Anna Julia' and 'Oh Lord, Oh Why' (I think that's the title). And some of the Alvin Lee songs, particularly 'The Bluest Blues'. I wonder if the rest of their albums/songs are as good.

I have played the Gary Moore and Alvin Lee albums and it depends a bit on your taste, but I can like them even without the George involvement. I liked Alvin Lee already way back in the 70's and even before when he did "I'm going home....to see my baby.." on Woodstock...what a smashing song that is...He has an album called Zoom :smile1:

Gary is much rougher impo but his music is very bluesy

It's quite remarkable if you draw a list of artists George played with... it is in all different areas of the music world, such a wide range of musicians, like from Jools Holland to Alvin Lee and from a ???Rubyhorse to Duane Eddy.
