Being that it is the anaversary of the Manson murders, can someone tell me how the song Helter Skelter mad him kill people. Because when I hear the song it means nothing to me, can anyone tell me what the story is?

If you don't understand Charles Manson and his motives, it's something to be proud of. A million things all lined up just right for the events of Aug 1969 to occur, the song Helter Skelter was just one of those things. I don't think you can assign too much relevance to the song itself in relation to the events that happened.

Manson beleived Helter Skelter was going to be the war that ended all wars....between "blackie"(Blackbird) and "whitie"."Piggies"were the establishment."Sexy Sadie" was one of his screwed up cronies nickname, involved in the killings. He read into the songs WAAAAAAY too much.....drugs and bad people don't mix!!!! Look at the Chapman case,he thought John was sent by the devil....the psycho who attacked George claimed the Beatles were witches.Very scary sh*t,man!!!!!!

well, Manson is crazy that's all I can say. And like st.paulygirl said, drugs and bad people don't mix! I like how in an interview John said Helter Skelter was all Paul. He didn't want to be blamed for this lol.

I don't think the song made anybody kill anybody. He just blamed the song, and a couple of others. Of course, it was nothing to do with his mental insanity.

But I guess what I* don't understand is how you can blam the song the song it self has nothing to do with killing people, and I'm sure if I were to play it backwords it wouldn't say kill kill kill, you know what I mean?

Of course none of us understand the Manson motives. The Helter Skelter murders were the tragic result of the mental insanity of a crazed man. His inspiration is in no way justifiable, and that is why no one understands it. There is nothing logical there to understand.

have any of you read the book or seen the movie Helter Skelter?

I've read the book a couple of times. Manson may be insane, but he knew exactly what he was doing. He used all kinds of psychological tecniques to both recruit and brainwash his followers into doing exactly what he instructed them to do.

Yes, I've read the book a few times and seen the movie twice. Manson was an egocentric manipulator of people. If you got on his bad side, you could consider yourself lucky to get out alive. If not, your body would be found somewhere in the countryside.
BTW, if anyone is interested, Paul got the name Helter Skelter from a giant slide at a local amusement park.

You don't get helter skelters over there?
They're tall structures, you walk up the stairs, going round and round, in a spiral, once you get to the top, you slide down the spiral on a mat. Endless fun, especially for lesbian dwarfs.

We don't have Helter Skelters. Thanks for telling us what one is, though. I've always wondered about the "When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide." I thought that Helter Skelter was just a jibberish rhyme.

Nope, it's a slide, in a spiral. Running up the stairs, to get to the top, then slide back down, twisting and turning on your little mat like a silly sod - it was great.

They have those occasionally at carnivals, but they don't spin in spirals and we slide down on potato sacks.

Sounds like what we have in water parks in America. You walk up the stairs and slide down the long tubes of water either on a mat, tube, or on your back. It's too much fun.

I loved Paul's performance at the half time show of the Super Bowl a few years back.
And I was surprised that he did Helter Skelter.
At first I thought that it might have been a bad chioce because of the Manson thing and then I got mad at myself for thinking that.
It is Pauls' song, he wrote it and he can sing it anytime anywhere he wants.
To hell with Manson.
