Hare Krishna?

OK, I know that in I am the Walrus they say "Elementry Penguin singing Hare Krishna", but what does Hare Krishna mean? Does anybody know? Please tell me so we can know together!

Krishna is a Hindu God, and I think Hare is roughly equivelant to 'Hail'
Or something like that anyway.

Hare Krishna is also mentioned in John & Yoko's "Give Peace a Chance." I'd have to credit George with introducing eastern religions to the boys. (That's no revelation, I'm sure!)

Hare Krishna is the mantra used by the Hare Krishna movment, this became popular in the 60s when John & George became devotees of the Maharishi, and following the trip to India, George wrote many songs that were influenced by this form of religion, whose main tenets were to become deeply self aware, to atain a deep level of spiritual conciousness by using mediation, and to display love and peace to everyone equally. George was also deeply interested in Indian classical music, and even took a number of lessons in the Sitar with Ravi Shankar, who was a master in eastern music before he ever became famous. Most of The White Album was written while The Beatles were in India.
