ch1

I recently bought a rather large collection of LPs from the estate of a former radio DJ. Amongst them was a UK copy of Rubber Soul on Parlophone. It has STEREO in black on the front cover right over Paul's picture. It appears to be in UNPLAYED condition as there is no detectable groove wear whatsoever ! It has an inner sleeve from emitex ..on the outside rim of the label it reads The Grammaphone Co .Ltd. Also Sold in the UK.. the matrix # is YEX-178-3. Does anyone know how early a copy this is ?

Ask Harb, I wouldn't know.
Welcome to the Links, btw. :smile1:

Since this is a memorabilia question, I'm going to move it to Beatles for Sale. I'm sure Harb (or someone else record-savvy) will see it there and answer your question.

Is this a different LP to the one you took a photo of for here:

If it is different, then here's what I think.
Firstly - are you thinking of selling it? The reason I say this is because the front cover, as you said, has the word 'STEREO' in black in the top right corner. This was only ever put on the first ever copies of the LP and was quickly taken off after it was realised that it couldn't be seen. They did try changing the colour to silver, but this wore off very quickly since it was pressed over the laminate (silver STEREO copies are impossible to find!). The number of the Black Stereo covers are thought to only be in the early thousands mark and are worth quite a bit!
From what you say regarding the label information, it's an original 1965-1969 pressing.
Value wise, I can only really estimate the value of a Black stereo sleeve, but I've heard that copies have sold for around £300 ($550).
