Everyone has had their say as to their best cover song the Beatles did. So now, how about your best and worst cover of a Beatles song?
For me, it would have to be Aerosmith's version of "Come Together". It is very close to the original. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
As for the worst, I'd say Earth, Wind and Fire doing "Got To Get You Into My Life". They practically destroyed it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

WOW! Bearkat, upon reading your first paragraph I immediatly thought of your second - before reading it.
Aerosmith's Come Together is excellent, and as I said in a different thread, whoever decided to have E,W and F cover The Beatles should never be allowed to make another decision in their life.
Of course, there are always William Shatner's covers - which are in a league by themselves.

Junior Campbell's version of Drive My Car is great. It's a foot tapper!
The worst? Probably Marmalade's Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, even though it got to Number 1, I think.
I have a CD with 36 Beatles songs, sung by people who......aren't beatles! It's really good actually. It's called "And Your Bird Can Sing" and has proper covers, such as the Peter and Gordon and Billy J Kramer songs.

I'll bet Shatner parties.
Joe Cocker's With A Little Help has to be one of the greatest.

Those are all excellent examples of songs listed. I do agree that Capt. Kirk should have stuck to acting and not sining.
Has anyone got the lastest Beatles covers CD that George Martin produced? I've only heard small bits of certain songs. Robin Williams and Jim Carrey each do a song on it. I don't remember which one did it, but one of them covered "I Am The Walrus". What I did hear of that was rather good.

Jim Carey did the Walrus, and it's pretty funny! Most of the others are all right. Robin Williams' funny, and Goldie Hawn's A Hard Day's Night is just a little too jazz for me.

Col, I believe that in America the CD is entitled "In My Life". I have seen it in the Beatles section at Best Buy.
As for covers, I have not heard many. All I can say is that I HATE the Joe Cocker 'With a Little Help' with a blind, raging, hormonal passion. That song is the grater to my cheese.

That's the name of the George Martin CD, but not the one I have, it's completely different, and rare.

Joe Cocker torn the house down at Woodstock with his version of With A Little Help, Penny. If you get a chance to see the movie, it's an interesting trip.

A few more good covers are Elton John's version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", "Come Together" by Tina Turner and Alice Cooper doing "Because".
BTW, John did some backing vocals on Elton's version.

I have 'All This and World War 11' and agree that there are some great covers on it, I love the whole album, especially the Bee Gees 'Sun King'(what?) honest, its really good, oh and Rod Stewart doing 'Get Back' is great. And Peter Gabriel's 'Strawberry Fields' (OK, just get the album!)
I dont like the George Martin one, except Sean Connery's spoken 'In My Life' Lovely!

The BJ's make me physically sick.
Some of the songs are ok, as long as you don't have to look at them singing them. With the teeth, and all that.

Oh, Le-Mc: Please reconsider. I saw the BeeGees in concert back in '69 and they were absolutely sensational! Robin's voice is angelic! I personally prefer their pre-disco music, but they have made a tremendous contribution to the industry which should be acknowledged.

Le-Mc: Sleepy & I both can't be wrong! Chipmunks? Come on, guy, I give you more credit than that. Try listening to some of their older stuff (from before you were born) and enjoy the harmony. In any case, they did give a marvelous live performance, complete with an 80-piece orchestra, way back when I saw them.

I just don't like looking at them, they basically annoy me!
I feel sorry for them, with their brother dying, and that. And, I do think they can sing well, and at least they write their own stuff. That one song is quite good, I can't spell it - it's a place in America.
Something like Massivetwotits?

On Rickie Lee Jones' new cd (It's Like This), she does a cover of "For No One" that is simply beautiful with piano and her magical, mystical voice. She was going to do an entire album of Beatle covers but ended up with this one that includes standards like "Smile" (C. Chaplin)and "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" (Traffic). If she's ever in your area, don't pass up the opportunity to see her live. The records don't even do her justice.

First off,to Harbridge:
Sorry, but I Call Your Name was WRITTEN FOR BILLY J!
The Billy J. version (w/BTM) was issued in July 1963,the Beatles' not recording it until April 1964 for the Long Tall Sally EP.
The best version of I Call Your Name was by the Mamas and Papas IMO,maybe because I heard the M&P version before the Beatles version.
