Ok so the movie isn't over yet but I wanted to be the first to ask everyone what they thought of the John Lennon story. So far it's been ok, about equal with the quality of most biography tv movies. What do you all think?

I thought the movie was okay. I didn't think that the guy playing John looked alot like him, but his accent was Fab. The guy who played Paul was almost identical.
By the way, i should know this, but is Mimi still alive? if not when did she die?

the movie was Posh!!
John didnt look like john, but he did the role well, Paul sorta looked like him but he had a piggy nose. Eppy looked superb. I was so inspired by this masterpiece that i got me mum to buy me a guitar. well, she got me a bass cause Im extremely handsome and deserve to be paul.
p.s. does anyone know what happened to me tangelo topic? oh well ill post it again in trivia!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gifhttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gifhttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

I quite liked the movie, even though I didn't think I would.

I didn't find it very informative. It's all been done already. Does anyone remember Dick Clark's TV production of "The Birth of the Beatles"? That was done way back when, but it was pretty thorough and the actors were first-rate. I believe John was still alive when that movie was made. Anyway, this latest movie was very, very similar to "Birth" but, in my opinion, not as well done. jtal & 'kat, you must know the film I'm referring to...

I didn't like the movie all that much either. I am picky with who plays our boys and they did an ok job. They are talented singers though. It was boring to me. Didn't like how it ended either lol

OFan, it's been a number of years since I've seen "The Birth Of The Beatles", but I do remember how well it was made and presented. I guess I'll need to find a copy of it to view again.

'kat, I just KNEW you'd remember!!! I taped it off the TV, but, I must admit, I haven't watched in some time myself.

The actors didn't sing, they were just lip-singing! The dude who played Paul had a crooked nose, the John brused his hair the wrong way, and I think the Ringo looked nothing like Ringo!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/mad.gif

I can't say that I recall that one. what year did it come out?

The actors sang. When they auditioned them they were asking for actors who could sing and play guitar. If it wasn't them snging they should have used the actual Beatles signing.

I didn't like it at all. I even thought the accents were bad. They could have gotten someone who looked at least a little bit like John. The singing and acting were pretty good, I have to admit. Anyway, I'm just picky when it comes to stuff like that.

jtal: The 'kat can help me on this one, but I believe "The Birth of the Beatles" was first broadcast in the late '70s. I seem to remember it was not that many years before we lost John. I'm sure Dr. Winston O'Boogie (my son) can find out the exact date for us. I'll have to contact him. In any event, do yourself a favor and try to get a copy of "Birth". I know you'll enjoy it. The actor who portrayed John was particularly effective.

Thanks, Orig. The late 70's were my "lost years" in a way and I didn't pay much attention to tv.
Anyway, I watched the 1st half of the Lennon Story on tape and rather enjoyed it. It was pretty general but that's expected in the amount of broadcast time they had. I even like it better when they don't look exactly like them. The lookalikes always look goofy and/or lame, like the Paul dude in this show.

If I'm not mistaken, "Birth" came out in late '78/early '79.

I didn't really like the movie much. I thought the actors strange looking. But the Pete Best guy was almost identical.
I wonder why they didn't get Gary Bakewell to do Paul, he's played him twice in Backbeat and the Linda McCartney story or whatever it was called.
Irish John just looked ridiculous if you ask me.
It was alright I suppose but Backbeat was definitly better.. I guess that was more of a Stuart movie though..
Sorry rambling.

Jeni: See if you can lay hands on Dick Clark's TV movie, "Birth of the Beatles". You'll notice how much better its quality is than this latest Lennon offering, but what's more important is the similarity of the period of time covered. "Birth" did a much more thorough job, I think, of re-tracing the steps of the history of the early Beatles. P.S. to 'kat: '78 - '79 sound like the right year(s) to me! Thanks!

Thanks OrigFan I'll have to see if I can find it! Blockbuster in my area probably has it, if not one of the 100s of avant-guard sixtish video/record stores will.

the guy who played John had the right attitude, and that counts more than the way he looks. I thought he did a fantastic job with it.
